States make their own election laws and in Ohio for example, the Democratic nominee has to be named no later than August 7th. I think the deadline may have already passed in a couple of states but I’m not 💯 on that. So, there is a good chance that getting a nominee on the ballot in numerous states would require a legal battle. 2. Biden is sitting on roughly $200 million in campaign donations. Campaign finance laws require that candidates apportion donations for pre-convention and general election spending. Obviously the bulk would go toward the general election. Those funds must be used by the Biden/Harris ticket or be refunded. They can’t transfer the money to a different candidate. Only Kamala Harris could use that money if Joe withdraws. Early voting starts in late September so a candidate would have five weeks at best to raise money. 3. So, the only even remotely realistic alternative to Biden is Kamala Harris and she polls worse than Biden.
