    Just got one of these. Nearly always gets a perfect tune. Even when it doesn't, ear tuning is a breeze after using it, since you're already close to your desired sound.

    This guy seriously needs to learn some basics before he makes videos. EQUAL TENSION DOES NOT EQUAL SAME PITCH!!! That would be a perfect world and far too easy. Rarely will a head ever be in tune with itself by using the same tension on each lug. Its the same pitch at each lug point that matters, not tension.

  • @IAmSippycup
    @IAmSippycup 14 років тому +2

    But the problem with this (if I understand it correctly) is that it's only making the tension of the LUG equal, not necessarily the skin. If you have one lug that is say, rustier than another, or is threaded differently the skin will be out of tune.

    @bziswin111 Well, equal tension, never really means same pitch. the way I use the torque key is to get everything even tension wise, then go round each lug clockwise and even up the pitch. But you can do the equal tension, it's personal preference at the end of the day....

    It never hit me that some lugs dont turn as easily as others, now I dont think this will actually have any purpose

    Very misleading. The laws of physics don't change for the marketing world. In a perfect world, all my tuners would required the same amount of torque to apply the same amount of tension to the head evenly all the way around. The truth is that hardly any of my tuners require the same amount of torque to turn. Some turn super easy. Others require massive force. But it is a good tool for what it is designed to do.

    @drumzac i just got one of these keys and no i does not always give you equal pitch... but it get each lug into a similar range... fine tuning is still used... this just makes it faster by getting each lug into a similar pitch range

    @Meykuhh23 Depends on the tone you're going for.
    Same tension on the top as the bottom is called “square” tuning. It is a good place to start. From there, one can just tweak the top head for tone and the bottom head for resonance. Experimentation is key as each drummer likes a different sound and each drum is unique and has its own “sweet spot”

  • @HEARDGERD

    it doesnt perfectly tune the drum because tension on the lugs and the head are 2 different things and even tension doesnt mean tuned, but this still speeds it up sinificantly, because you start at a reasonably close tuning in most cases with this key so it still speeds up the tuning process significantly, i have one, its true, it doesnt do magic tuning shit and make it perfect but my drum tuning went from 3 hours to 1 with it

  • @andydick5929

    After doing so,it wouldnt hurt to press the middle of the skin if its brand new, then checking again,repeating the process

  • @roryando

    But i guess it will be at least a quicker way to getting (nearly) the tuning you want, and then you can tweak it a little bit :)

    Don't believe on this same tension but different pitch check by yourself and return it if your not satisfied.

  • @gtrocksyosocks
    @gtrocksyosocks 13 років тому

    Yes the lugs don't provide the same tone, but at least after using these you have a good starting point for fine tuning.

    You can’t know if the drum is in tune and “sounds good” if you finish with the resonant head on the floor..... lol. You never even hit the drum.

    well this wont get exactly the same pitch at each lug but its the best starting point you can get

    i find it weird, that the first lug that clicks, has not been turned more than one turn, as opposed to the others that need 3 or 4 turns.

    • @danmeme7740
      @danmeme7740 8 років тому +2

      +jeppe935 Thats because the lug across and around that one get tightened a little and that makes more tension on that certain lug too. I don't know if I explained that very well.

  • @Joshweitz
    @Joshweitz 14 років тому

    @IAmSippycup yea that what someone at a music store told me. He was said "it will get all of the lug very close" and put emphasis on "if your lugs aren't rusty".
