  • In this episode I install the new computer for project super 10 in hope to get the truck running better. This computer is from a 1989 Full Size Chevy Blazer that had a 5.7 TBI and a 700R4 Transmission. This should be a great match for the little S10!

    I gave my 92 short bed 4x4 a complete tune up
    Oil,spark plugs , wires , cap , coil, water pump, radiator, temp sensors, brakes , thermostat but I didn’t change the hoses so I’m driving on the highway a day after spending 1000 and my heater core hose bursts and truck started over heating pulled over and the truck started smoking. I was pissed. Luckily there was an autozon less than a block away swaped them out threw some coolant in and drove it to Vegas from LA NO ISSUES 260,000 miles running strong

    I can totally relate to everything that you said about the truck. I've been running into the same thing with a 1989 Pontiac Formula 350 Project and am about to change the computer and chip because it has been running really rich and actually fouling out spark plugs causing the loping idle just like your truck had. They aren't bad vehicles just like you said but sometimes it makes you wonder if something really odd is going on when you replace one thing and then something completely unrelated then goes bad. I'm into mine for about $15,000 now and it's not even close to being done. Some people think I'm crazy for investing so much into it, but I'm only the 3rd owner and it has a documented 96,000 original miles. The interior is immaculate but everything mechanical that could go wrong has gone wrong. A new paint job is coming in the springtime and hopefully, she will be done and dependable. Right now I don't trust it to make it around the block.

    I feel your pain buddy. Last week I changed my blower motor resistor, and 20 minutes later my water pump started leaking for the second time, two days before the resistor I just replaced every single transmission line and installed a trans temp gauge. This weekend I have about 3 k worth of parts and upgrades all going in. I’m afraid of what’s gonna happen next lol. But keep plugging along, with every job you’re making head way. You keep turning out content and we will keep watching. Good luck buddy.

      Rocky X TV You name it. Lol. injectors, headstuds, new injection lines, crossover tubes, F.A.S.S., Beans diesel sump, filter delete kit, pyrometer, boost tubes. And while it’s all apart I’m painting and powder coating several of the things that are off. Cleaning up and revamping some wiring that I had temporarily ran. Along with other maintenance, oil change, tire rotation. Busy weekend.

      WOW! You're gonna be busy! and a little frustrated, remember your words "keep plugging along, with every job you’re making head way." It's always worth it in the end, well not always, I had a car burn to the ground years ago, but lets not talk about that....

    I build cars and have learn how to build from owning and keeping my 95 S10 running. When it comes to mechanical parts rebuild the entire system and be done with it. A/c cooling system I’m replacing everything pressure will find the weakest point and find it’s way out. I understand your frustration completely that’s why I fixed it up and got sick of all the issues that popped up so i mothballed it and now about to put a 350 in it.

    friend, can you help me please, I have a Chevrolet suburban 1500 5.7 vortec 1996, I made the TBI carburetor and distributor, I had the camshaft altered a bit in stage 2 and I put an aluminum radiator with electric fans (the problem is that it It heats up after 15 or 20 minutes and the time according to the mark on the pulley is not left, I move the distributor and not Measure the time) What is the problem? can you help me

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  Рік тому

      If I remember correctly, you sat the timing to 0 degrees on these and the computer controls it from there. It sounds like as you're turning the distributor, the computer is actively changing the timing. Most of these have a timing disconnect wire, most of the time it's brown with a small disconnect plug on the firewall. You disconnect this wire, set timing to 0 degrees, then plug the wire back in. After this the computer will control the timing for you.
      I'm not sure if that's the info you were looking for.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@RockyXTV let compare some numbers- dewalt: about:$160 $170 700ft-lbs/1200ft-lbs breaking ryob: about $100 so, yea ur right, one of the tools is literally half, actually less than half the other tool lol yea theyre a little more expensive, but i payed 165 for a dcf89 but i also havent regretted it for a split second!! iv definitely had plenty so i kno i didn't just get a good one, the first one was stolen the second magically disappeared.. yea apparently thats a thing.. so i bought another one, yea thats how impressed i m with it. we should run a contest between the 2, but im a nobody non youtuber so i guess that chances of that r...about zero :p .iv been workin on tractor trailers for years n we needed somethin to help the snap ons werent doin n u wanna talk about twice the price!!! never again will snap off get a single cent from me anyway bigger trucks have bigger tighter bolts, generally so we expected to use this alot but we did NOT expect it to b able to crack loose and reapply MULTIPLE tractor trailers wheels!! this thing blows my mind! its soo impressive what itll move, i these guys were jumpin on a 3 foot bar n it wouldnt budge, i got there put the impact on n ziiiip! came right off no prob im tellin u man, dewalts got impact down to n art so ur right the ryobi deff is more affordable, its 100 and the dewalts 170 well say.. but if ur like me n that tools literally how u make ur money its well worth the dewalt because itll put up with the abuse n keep goin, iv seen dewalts go thru stuff a sherman tank shouldnt have been able to survive.. trust me i v had my fair share of playin with tools for 30 years so iv used a ryobi a time or two. u kiddin??absolutely!! thank U for makin the content man i really enjoy hangin out watchin some good youtube workin with good tools doin good work n smokin some good buds :) daam i got a book wrote!! its ur fault for callin me out on the dewilt thing lol if were quoting god then i say the de-wilt will make the cryobi....cry!!! lol :p so cringeworthy lol

    Is this cammed? What's done to it

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  2 роки тому

      At the time of this video I'm not sure what was all done to it. The cam was supposedly a TBI Computer friendly cam, but I can't verify that. I eventually added an Edelbrock TBI intake, slightly modified TB, larger injectors, fuel pressure reg spring (16psi I think), spacer to clear distributor, MSD coil & wires, flashed PROM chip and some other stuff I'm surely forgetting. This all definitely woke up the old engine, but at the end of the day it was still a low power mid torque TBI chevy.
      It's currently getting a new pretty radical engine. I'm hoping to post some videos, even if they're shorts on the new engine. Let's just say on the engine dyno it made about triple what this engine made stock.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@RockyXTV okay sounds cool. You gotta do vids when finshed. I just put holley tbi n spacer on mine is saying 14 psi n I have jet performance chip. Seems to stumble when revving. I think I'm a tooth off cause I did headgaskets n intake gaskets n put in slightly wrong

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  2 роки тому

      @@mikeydejon2148 could be a tooth out. Or a small leak on those intake gaskets. There's an old test for this, you may already know. Grab a can of carb cleaner or WD40. Use the little straw that comes with it. While the engine is running spray along the intake seams. Do this little by little and see if the spray is sucked in and the engine idles up. If it does, you have a leak and you know where it is.

    • @mikeydejon2148
      @mikeydejon2148 2 роки тому

      @@RockyXTV okay thanks if I'm just tooth off can I just turn distributor to adjust?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  2 роки тому

      @@mikeydejon2148 I'm not sure on the TBI motors. When setting the timing for them, you are supposed to unplug the "timing wire" usually a brown wire on the firewall with a black rubber/plastic connector. You unplug that wire and set your timing to zero degrees, plug that wire back in and the computer adjusts from there.
      Just turning the distributor may not have an effect. Unless you unplug that wire, turn it, then plug it back in. I hope that makes sense.
