    I'm never going to do anything even close to fastpacking, but I find your video very interesting! Always nice to hear someone with hands on experience talk about how to travel light in the mountains, and why they pick the gear they do.
    And it's very satisfying to see worn and dirty hiking gear! Then you know it's been used and abused, and the owner knows her/his equipment in and out.
    Already looking forward to your next video! Greetings from Norway :-)

      Used and abused is 100% what my backpack would say if it could talk 😂

    Damn, this is inspirational! Too many years ago I was an arctic ranger and did trips like this with friends a couple of years afterwards. Then came college, kids and work… And now I find that fastpacking is a thing! I have binged your videos since I found your channel a couple of days ago. This weekend I’ll get in touch with some former colleagues and see what their plans are. Thanks a lot! 🙏🏻 Am looking forward to more!

    You absolutely know you're stuff, love the kit setup and really impressed that you can fastpack for 23 days with just a 30L in the mountains. I'm really knew to fastpacking but can't wait to get started, fortunately I'm in the UK and will only be facing lows of around 6'c.
    Done a 1 nighter with a 10L pack but waiting for my 25L pack to arrive so I can do a multiday trip

    Jenny - thanks for sharing. It's always a treat seeing a kit that's been put through its paces. I really appreciated the comments about considering the stove a safety item, it's a perspective I hadn't considered before.
    You mentioned bear bag hangs - have you tried the PCT style? I fairly recently learned about it and was surprised to see that there could be innovations in hanging food from a tree.

    Good editing. Bloody knee kinda stayed with me too long. It amazes me how folk find such amazing gear. Who knew you could get a cold weather sleeping bag that works when wet and folds down to the size of a wet wipe? We'll done on surviving the Rockys, I thought a bear was going to eat you...you're probably too fast for them.

  • @PhoenixGenesis

    What is the brand of your sleeping bag please? If I were to make a recommendation, I would include a 3 oz. Cuben fiber tarp to your kit. Very versatile piece that can be used to be less claustrophobic in your Bivy as well as a nice cover for your fastpack, poncho for you or ground cloth for a quick nap. In the Sierras, I also carry a small pencil sharpener to make shavings for campfires as well as to make stakes from sticks for my tarp. Hope this helps.

    Thanks Jenny, I came across this video researching the Montane Trailblazer 30. Looks like a great fastpack option and I love your adventures. Just wondering if you had any input into the design and when might a version 2 of the pack come out. I can see there is some wear and tear on some of the mesh pocket on the side and the top lid does not look too water resistant. I appreciate your advice. Cheers from California!

    • @JennyTough_
      @JennyTough_  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Darren! Thanks so much :). I do testing on the pack and feedback to the designer at Montane. I believe the upcoming version will be women's specific, but not much is changing! I did indeed wear out my mesh pockets, but that was mostly due to an incident in NZ when I had to drop my pack when I got stuck on a scramble. I think my bag has nearly 2000km on it now so I'm pretty happy!

    Recently discovered your content having stumbled across "Fastpacking" - had no idea there was a name for it! I have a question for you, since you're the seasoned veteran here: I plan to fastpack across GR10 in the Pyrenees and also the Pennine Way. Both trails are roughly 250-260 miles long so I'm looking at 10-14ish days each. I'm happy to take minimal gear so would you say the 30L or the 44L Trailblazer would be more suitable? Of course there's plenty of factors that need to be considered but I'd love to hear your thoughts :) Loving the content!

    Quick question Jenny. I'm considering buying the Montane Trailblazer. I usually take two waterbottles and have them in outer pockets for easy access. You had bladders and a bottle inside the bag. Isn't that a pain stopping to drink all the time? Also you don't use a camelbak set-up? Thanks for the video and advice!

    That looks harmful for your joints running with a backpack even a light packed one. Don´t you miss out on the scenery running ? Running downhill how does your feet cope with movement inside the shoe or is that all nothing to worry about ? Tough and brave you are.

    • @JennyTough_
      @JennyTough_  4 роки тому +4

      Thanks! Well, no it isn't hard on my joints - I keep the weight down, I'm running on trails, and, most importantly, I'm trained for it! I actually started running in order to slow down and take in more (than cycling) and I don't feel like it goes too fast. Not the way I run anyway 😂
