Hi! So I’m a college junior and I’m looking to either teach autistic students or blind and low vision students. I’m autistic and have low vision myself. If I taught blind and low vision students, would I have to become a braille transcriber as well?
Hello. If you go to to become a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) you will take a couple of classes in braille. You will learn how to teach it and the basics on how it works, but you will not learn it as in depth as a braille transcriber. I love braille so I became a certified transcriber and then a TVI. But that is not a requirement.
