The term in the modern age has been used almost exclusively to differentiate those of specifically English ancestry from anyone else, usually the Irish, Slavs, or southern Europeans, while implying that those of the "Anglo-Saxon race" are inherently superior.
TLDR: It's a dog whistle for white identity politics.

I was born in Canada and I’ve been telling people there’s more similarities with Americans than differences. Canada has been moving more and more to the right for the last 40 years just like the US. Wages have been stagnant just like the US and inequality is increasing. We voted a Trump supporting prime minister Steven Harper in twice in a row.
In no sane world is Canada moving to the right. Our government grows every year and Canadians pretty much support any spending program. Ndp plus liberal voters make up like 65% of the country.
Stephen Harper aside from his weird scientist stuff was a very good pm. Our economy did amazingly under him. Not surprising he has a PhD in economics

As someone who lives in Canada, I have only had 1 person ever get mad at me about wearing my mask. Me and my father actually wildly different feelings about wearing the mask, where as I am someone who could put my mask on before leaving the house and never take it off until I get home, not because I think it helps me, but because I need to where it everywhere I go and I genuinely don't care if it's on my face; my dad will drop his mask below his chin the first chance he gets because he doesn't like having it on. I feel like at this point most people have had the realization that, just because someone is wearing a mask in public, doesn't mean they are some psychotic nut-job who thinks they are going to die if they take it off... It would make no sense for the unions to advocate for Canada to remove vaccine restrictions at the border. It would just mean American truckers get to enter Canada without vaccines but Canadian truckers would still be blocked by America, it would literally disadvantage Canadian truckers.

The US has a requirement to cross over int it's territory so these truckers have to vaccinated to cross the border. Protesters are protesting the Canadian government for no reason because the Canadian government is not the one imposing the mandates.

I live in Ottawa. This all has been the stupidest of stupid events. The demands literally make no sense and I have seen far too many confederate flags and swastikas and other assorted hate symbols for this to actually be about truckers. It is also fun how the police and bylaw are too afraid of the "protesters" to take the same actions they would against any other protest. I am all for fair treatment of protesters by law enforcement, but it is pretty sus when they start using the kid gloves on a massively majority white and conservative group of people who are causing magnitudes more disruption to the city than other protests.
