2004 Mitsubishi Lancer engine tick/knock on cold start

- Engine only has this noise on cold starts for about 1 minute then goes away. No I don't usually rev it while it's making that noise just doing it to show the sound in this video. Already changed the lash adjusters and it did not help same issue.

That’s worn out bearings on the crank, or the slosh pan in your valve cover has dropped and is being slapped by the rocker arms. Thats an all day no questions answer!
My 2005 lancer started it after reinstalling the new Rings. But it just happens in the winters on cold starts and after a while its gone when the engine heats up. It never does it in the summers and its been 5 years now. Engine is as strong as new and its 200k on the odo now.
I got a Lancer '91 GTI with 1,8l engine 136HP 330.000 km and it makes the noise as well, even not that loud. I found out by accident that if I turn on the ignition/starter and stop it before the engine really starts (so just one second because mine starts really quick) and then start it again, the engine startes without the noise.
Mine was a busted lifter replace every one with new ones personally then bleed em fill em with diesil make sure they are stiff as ppossible , reinstall em ,rev motor up past 3k rpm for a few an slowly keep doing it it'll slowly quiet down and eventually stop mines down to a small tick I'm guessing coming from injectors or fuel rail other than that its good drove mine and its good no hesitations or anything just when come to syop you hear small faint tick but like I said next is checking those two
I have a lancer 2004 had a knocking/rattle noise only in park on idle or in gear when i will drive it will go away i startered from under the car the noise sounded like a rod but was coming from the flywheel area i took out the transmicion it was an automatico to findo the flywheel broken it was cracked all around the center and changed the flywheel at the same time it ruined my torque converter do to how badly broken the flywheel was
Hello. Do you already have a solution or are you still knocking on the engine in the morning?
For me, Carisma 4G92 does similar thing in the morning but no idea of the bug.
My '03 is doing the exact same thing, it recently started this and I've noticed that it also uses a bit of oil since this started. I've been told I may need the head redone. any luck figuring yours out?
Andrew Motteberg sorry never figured it out but car is still running strong with the issue.
This is valve-lifters noise. They need to be replaced. This Mitsubishi engine (4G94) is known for lifter noise.

i have the same problem on my lancer the problem is the flex plate is damage it needs to be changed but i changed it a month ago and the problem happen again so i have to change it another time but the question what causes the flex plate to be broken iam spending alot of money to get it fixed and iam back to square 1 if i where u change the entire transmission .
Transmission main bearing, it wobbles and the end of the shaft hurts the throw out bearing and the clutch tines.
Hi. My car does the same noise when morning start up when I rev up the noise getting louder up to 2500 rpm beyond 2500rpm the noise goes away. Today I removed the valve cover and checked the tappets the gaps are not too bad (near specs) and I have 4G94 motor which has no hydraulic lifters. So I assumed that noise is from piston slap. Please give me your ideas with thanks.
@@jayybirdberg6545 Nope. I asked one of my friend who has similar vehicle and he also has the same issue. But apart from that everything is fine. So I leave it like that.

I have a 03 oz rally lancer it makes this noise at cold but not so loud also when I put it in drive and drive off slowly it makes a winding noise but it all goes away once the car is warmed up . Did you ever find out what it was or have a clue ?
Me to have same issue when starting the cold morning rpm going 2.5 and there is noise. then after 5 10 minutes rpm less than 1 coming the noise is gone. Do you guys found solution?

that can be the timing belt or chain.
Mine that ticking noise i heard it when i turning off the engine like 2 seconds. i was hoping mine will not do that when i start my engine/
Its weird noise,i cant figure whose the culprit,but when the engine 4g13 heats up its like as silent as he can be,,,tsk!,,

Okay I have a 2008 Lancer doing this same noise but it gets worse in lower gears.... thoughts are its a bad half shaft or drive shaft

Didn't get it to stop but the car is still running strong. Still making that noise in the morning on cold starts.
