  • Welcome back to Shift Into Gear
In this segment we have one of the icon vehicles that everyone knows and has loved for so many years, a vehicle that is know all around the world the Mitsubishi Pajero.
In this review you will get an honest review towards the Mitsubishi Pajero GLX and the quality's it has to offer. As you all know the Mitsubishi Pajero is a popular vehicle in its class of 4x4 vehicles as the 3.2 turbo diesel is a work horse that does everything the owner needs it to do from towing a boat to tackling the harsh conditions when 4WD.
This vehicle is truly made to please its owners as it can also be used for a everyday family SUV and yes it still has that similar shape over the years that define it as a Pajero.
We hope you enjoy the review and please feel free to ask any questions in the comment section 😊

Just got a 2007 super exceed with 101250km on her. The 3.8 gas..paid 10 grand plus some taxes.. it gets 460km per tank in the city,.and 650km on the highway.. its the super exceed so has all the options u need except I do wish it had memory seat positions for drivers and that the rear defrost/fog also was on the Sideview mirrors. Will never sell this though. I will turn it into my overlander when it's done being the family ride for the next 5 years, and she will always be ready for when the world falls apart

Wow, I remember the 2007 shape. To be honest, they all somehow look similar. It's that box design that you know is a pajero for a distance. But that's actually a bargain for what you paid, as the kms are pretty low on it. It must be in a really good condition.
The electric seats make a huge difference in any car. It's that little bit more comfort that makes the difference just for conveniences. And the kms that you're getting for the distance aren't bad at all.
Yea, man, I would keep it forever. It sounds like you pick up a really good bargain. I might as well keep it for a really long time.
Thanks for the comment, and watching the review, I'll have an update review on the pajero soon, as I've change the tyres and added a few extra things 😀 stay tuned and if you haven't subscribed, please do so and turn on the notifications so you will see the review coming soon. 😀

Over time there are a couple of things which may require attention such as the suction control valve $, harmonic balancer $$, intake manifold and egr system clog up and need cleaning $$ unless you have installed an egr delete plate, valve clearances need to be reset periodically $$ and the turbo intercooler hoses need retightening over time and the cold side hose rubs on the plastic engine cover causing a split in the hose $$$ and wheel bearings can need replacing once the klm's get higher.
My generation 4 Pajero has had most of these issues listed above across 215,000klms of mixed driving but now they've been addressed I'm confident I'll get another 200,000klms out of her - best vehicle I've ever owned - love that car!!.

@@ShiftIntoGear. Mate, the scv is $218 from Repco, it's genuine oem Denso unit, it's easy to do yourself in 30mins but the catch is the ecu then needs relearning meaning most of us have to pay a mechanic - mine charged 2hrs labor for 2x screws and an electrical plug plus the relearn $480. ( btw they were quoting me over $400 for exact same Denso unit from Mitsi and add labor on top!.)
The balancer requires radiator removal, so onviously get that flushed and fresh coolant at the same time, the whole job including balancer and front crank seal cost me $1200 but a mate got the same done nearby for $1000 - apparently it's the leaky crank seal that throws oil onto the balancer and perishes the rubber so best to get a new crank seal while it's being done.
EGR clean and manifold plus valve clearances etc cost $1300 about 6yrs ago but they added the blanking plate with 10mm hole at the same time which hopefully has addressed the dreaded clogged manifold issue - she runs smooth and powerful and with good fuel economy, so I've no reason to think otherwise - haven't had it done since.
The cold side turbo hose is not cheap from Mitsi - I've been told anywhere from $400 up to $700 for a freakin hose! Which is only single ply too. Best to either trim the insulation on the plastic cover or cut a piece of rubber hose to fit like a shroud and use zip lock ties to hold it in place to stop the wear, some people cut the split hose and put in a stainless joiner across that section as a cheaper alternative - about $30 inc metal clamps vs $up to $700 for new hose.
There is a company in Victoria, name escapes me, that make an entire set of silicon 6 ply hoses for around $400 if you wanna go all out and upgrade all the turbo hoses too.
For me I'm happy with spending $2500 over 7yrs of ownership and she's still a very solid, tight vehicle which I hope will give me trouble free running for another 5-10yrs.
Everytime I go test drive a new 4x4 I always come back to my Pajero and say "no way! I'm keeping this one".
Oh and just one final note, I was convinced to change my Penrite 10w40 oil to a 5w30 fully synthetic oil for various reasons and I did this at the start of winter 2022, bad idea in my opinion, that's when I started getting oil leaks here and there, never a drop before changing, I read the manual which said that low viscosity oil was for temps inthe -40 degree up to 0 degree celsius range, not appropriate for sub tropical Queensland!.
I've just switched bask to good old Penrite 10w40 oil and the motor is noticeably quieter.
Personally I regret being talked into using the 5w30 oil as I believe it was the cause of the crank seal leaking and eventually having to replace the balancer - maybe changing to that oil in an engine with over 200,000klms was not a good idea, newer low klm trucks using it from new maybe ok but I'll never use it again myself.

Hey Sig, Welcome Pajero Brother. Enjoy your Pajero, you spent your money very well, and these Pajero's will become collectors items in the future...no matter what the KM'S. After many years with a NW Pajero I can confirm its Bullet Proof with minor issues. For engine longevity, egr block and catch can are VERY important. This improves engine internal cleanliness, and the turbo is able to spool up slightly quicker. Long term, the Timing Chain guide is plastic and should be checked from 150,000kms. I see 8-11L/100 regularly, have seen 7.6L/100 on a clean highway run. With the car loaded up (Approx 300kg) I see 8.5L/100 on Country Roads. Just one other item...your tyres. Going up 1 profile is a bad idea, it does add a small amount of extra clearance and looks better but... and it is a big BUT. This added 1-2lts/100km to fuel usage. Went from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17 and that was the result. Changed back to a 65 profile and will give it a 50mm lift instead. Going the same profile of 65 over a 70, saves around $380 as well. I hope this helps you in the future.

      Hey Jamie,
Thank you for the sincere welcome Jamie, it is appreciated. Honestly you are right with this sort of 4wd it was highly underrated, but for people who truly own on understand what this machine has to offer. Now funny thing is I was about to change the whole rim and tyre bit I had chosen not to as I have decided to go with the perelli scorpion tyres A/T 265/65/R18 and left the standard Mitsubishi Alloys on, I will be taking her off road a bit but nothing to insane. See how it will go now with the fuel consumption but I don't think it would make a huge difference but to some degree it will, I see you have the same passion I do about this vehicles and it's great to see that, and I enjoyed your comment that you have left us. Safe driving brother and all the best with your Pajero. 😀

@@ShiftIntoGear. Thank you for your reply. If you could let me know how you go with fuel consumption as time goes by, it would be appreciated. I found the freeway economy was ok, but around town.. Yikes. Good choice of 65 profile anyway for your rims, A 60 on an 18" is simple not enough rubber to work with unfortunately. Luckily there is a few rims sizes to play with from Pajero /Triton 17" that can be used. Has to 17" minimum due to large brake caliper. I have a request. I have not seen anybody cover the pajero LWB seat folds down flat for sleeping, have seen pictures online but never seen a video. Maybe in the future you may have the opportunity to cover this fact. Again thank you for you reply ...

    • @jamesmason8944

New tyres increase the fuel consumption due to increased rolling resistance. The fuel consumption figure usually gets better when tyres get a bit of mileage on them.
