Those are very nice add ons for the GX470!!! I will definitely look into that bracket and that Garmin. I also like your radio screen but don’t know if I can change mine since I have the GX that has the climate control on my touch screen. Let me know. Thanks and keep making Great GX470 content!!!
Yes my head unit is a direct replacement for non-nav. You would have to source non nav ac controls to convert it. But the Garmin Explore app doesn’t use Apple CarPlay anyway so having a cheap tablet is the most reliable/hi-res option. Thanks so much for watching!!
Liked the whole video (as I do all your videos) I watched this video for the last few minutes. Working on my wife’s 07 GX and trying to figure out where and which mount to put the Auxbeam controller on. Are you still liking the ORS mount? We are down the road from you in Redlands so you may see a gray GX with a 3” lift and rear bumper done right now and soon to have front done as well.
The InReach Mini 2 only connects to the Garmin Explore app. I found out that the app doesn’t have a CarPlay function unfortunately, so I decided that getting a cheap renewed iPad was the best course of action. It also probably has a more responsive screen than the head unit as well. Another reason is that I can also use the iPad Bluetooth to monitor my solar battery setup (battery SOC/temperature, etc.) and also operate my fridge (turning on/off, changing temps).
You… may have missed the whole “off-grid” part. Lol. You can use the same setup with your phone as well if you don’t want a big silly screen. The point of the system is to give you Navi/tracking/texting anywhere on earth with a clear view of the sky. No cell towers required.
That's dope. Just bought one and wanna get a build like that underway. Awesome content
Right on, thanks Caleb!

Thanks so much! 🙏
Do you only need the iPad for the larger screen, or is there no off grid trail app that works with apple car play?
