    Solid setup, you influenced me to adopt the magnetic set up in the past video and I’m getting ready to do the midland comms hard mounted like yours. It just looks clean and out of sight. if you haven’t already could you do a a short video on how you have the midland mounted and hardwired into the glovebox, a basic tutorial would be rad, did you need to drill a hole for the hand mic, etc. Enjoying the content and Tacoma build all the way out here in the desert of California!

      Yo thanks! The radio is just velcroed inside the glove box and I notched a small hole for the wire to run in the back of the removable plastic panel. Super simple. And ran the wire behind along the firewall and out the front passenger accessory wire hole into the engine bay, to the battery. Hand mic magnet is actually superglued to the dash. Adhesive wasn't strong enough.

    Not confident those magnetic mounts are going to do the job if you get into really rough terrain. Just used two in our 2005 Jeep Rubicon TJ on the Florida Adventure Trail and our iPad mini running ONX and a smart phone both fell off. We are switching to more positive grip with RAM or Bullet mounts. I do like your setup - we ran a vehicle mounted Midland Radio with low profile antenna and two handheld BAOFENG DM-1701 Digital Two Way Radio DMR Analog Walkie Talkie GD-77. Added a Garmin 700i Montana both for emergency communications as well as second navigation system.

    Clean setup! Question about your iPad though, do you use a hotspot from your phone to it or do you have a data plan for the iPad? I figured that would be needed unless On X Off-road can be used offline. I'm a newbie to the overlanding world and just getting into the tech side of the gear and just curious. Thanks in advance man!

      You can use ONX off line, you just need to download the maps beforehand. I just used ONX with downloaded maps driving the Florida Adventure Trail and it worked find. My son did the same but he linked his IPAD Mini with his smart phone by a hotspot.

    Just found your site today. Really nice set up
    . I like the ram rail you have. Question what exact mount do you have on side closets to passenger seat. I found the rail system, but ram keeps suggesting the really big 4 prong phone holder. Can't seem to find anything similar to the small set up you have with added magnet from seperate manufacturer. Thanks any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Have new 4runner coming soon. Thanks for sharing your setup… I’m trying to figure out what I want to do in my Jeep Liberty. I’m really surprised you like OnX over GAIA. I pay for both, and 9/10 times find GAIA way better. Also, I use my iPhone to shoot from the cab too, but with CarPlay or even using without, it doesn’t mess with navigation when I go to video mode (just shuts off my music), maybe your settings are off?

    • @Gerbyq
      @Gerbyq Рік тому +1

      Yea they don't even compare.. Those Gaia maps are so good.

    • @ArkansasOffroad
      @ArkansasOffroad  Рік тому

      I have Gaia still too. Gaia is a great overall mapping software, integrating onroad and offroad maps. I like onX for strictly offroad because how simple it is. It's almost "feature less" in ways, which I like. Gaia is super in depth and complicated. Both have their place. When I use my iPhone for mapping, bluetooth music, and shooting video, it kills my battery. That's really why I like them separate.

      I've had buddies have lots of issues with SwitchPros. 2 of my friends actually. I haven't had any issues at all with the Garmin Tread. The only issues I was talking about in the video was with an optional bluetooth camera. The camera itself was shutting off because of a battery issue with it.

      @@ArkansasOffroad Thanks for the response. I picked up the Garmin PowerSwitch during BlackFriday. I'm going to give it a shot. Are you using the "Control Inputs" feature at all? I have a few questions about it and the info out there is slim. I'm wondering if I tap an ignition source, can turn amber backlights on/off. Also if I can tap my high beams for a trigger. Thanks again!

    • @ArkansasOffroad
      @ArkansasOffroad  Рік тому +1

      @@El_Dangeroso Nice! Congrats. So for the backlight feature for the amber on lights, I have yet to figure that one out. I bought my baja designs lightbar second hand and haven't been able to get the backlight to come on. Ive tried a variety of switches. Exhausted my efforts. Not sure what's up. I would think the backlight and the fully on light are different switches, so theoretically, you should be able to have 2 separate buttons for them.

      @GerhardCombrink Рік тому

      @@ArkansasOffroad Thanks, given that I usually camp in remote African locations this was an issue for me which I ultimately solved with a 150w cigarette lighter inverter which I plug the base charger into. A better option will eventually need to be a higher quality dual battery system with inverter setup, though I’m trying to keep it functionally simple for now.
