Glad to hear you’re OK. My son will be 32 next month and was drinking energy drinks constantly. Because of this, he now has a heart condition. I don’t think anyone should be drinking energy drinks. I had a breast cancer scare along time ago and it turned out to be caffeine that caused the breast lump. Stopping caffeine cold turkey was the longest two weeks of my life. I haven’t had it in probably 18 years. And I don’t miss it.

I've had ocular migraines off and on for a number of years but mine don't present with a headache...only spots soooo bad I can't do anything until they subside. My eye doctor told me to take a Tylenol as soon as I feel one coming on. Thanks for the reminder to keep a closer eye on my BP.

Eye problems are so scary! I'm glad you're better! ❤ I've cut down to 1 cup of coffee a day, for my stomachs sake.
In early 2023, I was at my desk working, and all of a sudden, I saw a huge black shadow in my left eye. It was eye vessels popping and bleeding. 3 lazer surgeries and injections later, they say that I'm okay, but if I hadn't gone in right away, I would have lost my eyesight in that eye. Caused by allergies. 😢

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I am glad you are fine, but on the other hand, if coffee can almost blind you, the wake up call should be to eat better food overall. I know you always want to save, but grocery should not be one of the first places to cut your budget, especially if you are working on your health. Sorry, but I know, I’m fat, but I’m trying to make myself healthy by eating better and exercising. At some point we have to wake up and take responsibility for our bodies.

This poor lady is extremely morbidly obese. She does shows all the time on losing weight and saving money but the reality is she's an overeater and an over spender and her life is quite bad because she has packed on the way she uses food for comfort food for love food for fear food for happiness. I quit watching on a regular basis because it's depressing to see someone go through the same things over and over and over for years on and truly never do anything about it. People who are morbidly obese like this woman should never be drinking energy drinks. The energy is you quit drinking sugar you get off your butt and you actually do life instead of sitting on your butt eating and living through your couch. She's a nice lady. But she's trapped in her morbidly obese syndrome. She is only in her fifties and my God I looked at her and I thought lady you so deserve a better life but you're never going to give it to yourself. We can give all the advice in the world. She's never going to take it she doesn't take it from herself or others I feel sorry for her. If she could get $150 off her she'd have an amazing life instead she's going to have a couch life. Her choices.

I'd never heard of them before until I saw my eye doctor the next day.Never figured out why it occurred.

Caffeine can really do a number on a person! I had a scare about ten years ago and went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. Good news after all the tests was that my heart, BP and arteries were fine! Turns out, it was my heavy coffee consumption. As we age, caffeine can have more profound effects on our bodies. I switched to de-caf and my problems resolved.

I am currently baking cookies so not paying attention to who else was in the room as I listened to your video.

She was properly horrified and is taking this as a cautionary tale. So, thank you so much for sharing this. Pretty sure you made a concrete difference in how she views caffeine.
She knows eye troubles are not something to fool around with. At 22 she's not that worried about her BP, but is aware that one side of her family generally winds up on meds for it there 30s. She's also aware that I have major eye issues and that it's a real inconvenience at times.

Thank God you're OK! Tip: drink half-caff. I don't love the taste of decaf, so I mix it 2/3 decaf, 1/3 caffeinated. It tastes better and really helps keep the blood pressure down and prevents the afternoon caffeine crash.

  • @olderandwiser78

Very interesting. I am a heavy coffee drinker and caffeine doesn't bother me, but if I don't drink it I get headaches. Normally I never get a headache. I did read that women who drink 5 cups of coffee a day are much less likely to get Alzheimer's which is important to me because my mother had it. Also my blood pressure is fine. What I find funny is that since I was 12 I have worn glasses for being near sighted. At 22 I got contacts and wore them for years. Those contacts kept my eyes from getting worse and I had the same prescription for over 10 years. My vision actually improved with age and I went from two distance contacts to one eye for distance and one eye for reading. Then I went to a contact in only one eye. The eye doctor suggested that I go back to glasses. Now I only have to wear them for driving. I have to laugh when at 79 I can still read the fine print on medicine packages with no problem, but my kids aged 45-52 all have to use readers. If they don't have their glasses handy I have to read it for them.
I will say that listening to friends can be important. My neighbor is 91. About 3 months ago she wasn't feeling right so she called her friend. The friend listened to her talking and immediately knew that she was having a stroke. The friend called 911 and told them that her friend was having a stroke. When they sent the ambulance they sent the special stroke unit. Because of that she was immediately treated for a stroke on the scene. She went to the hospital, stayed one night for observation, and was sent home. That quick thinking friend saved her from probably a whole lot worse outcome.

Thank God you're ok! & you for sharing the information about caffeine. You hear about things like this happening, you don't hear it FROM someone it has happened to. Makes a difference, to me it has. I make my coffee very, very strong to get that caffeine kick. No more! Will be weaning off thanks to you!! Caffeine also dehydrates you. I have to drink Liquid IV to stay hydrated. I went to the ER (I have insurance), severe headache & extreme muscle weakness in my left arm. Heart or stroke? Walking & responding slow & difficult. Cardiac work up & CT scan of head. Blood work showed SEVERE dehydration, CT scan, and brain is normal. Did find a severe frontal sinus infection with fungi. No symptoms! Also said it is chronic, how they know that I don't know. Sodium low. Got IV's & Rx for Doxicycline. Felt better after IV's. Dr said all was due to dehydration. I am all good now. I have been hospitalized for low sodium; falling, confusion & talking out of my head I'm told. I don't remember going through the symptoms. Fall a lot of times in short period of time, with loss of consciousness at times . Finally, I agree to go to ER, as I couldn't get myself up. Direct admit for low sodium. Who ever heard of that? Sorry for rambling on.😊

Just be aware, ocular migraines can happen periodically. My first one happened when working in the kitchen and my right eye went bonkers. All bright colored lights and shapes, like a calidescope.
Have them periodically, sometimes I lose sight, or becomes watery and blury, bright lights, etc. Mine seem to come when I'm trying to do housework and bending down.
Definitely a bit scary but apparently ocular migraines are a bit common.

    Wow. We all so unique!
Another situation to add to our list of things that can happen.
I would have suspected high blood sugar.
As a younger person, I never would have thought I would ever go to caffeine free coffee!!! But because of some health issues in my 40’s, I started weaning myself off caffeinated coffee by mixing in decaf to my regular coffee. I did that to avoid the headaches. Took about a month or so, but I became a decaf coffee girl. My issues cleared up.
My BP has risen the last couple of years due to aging. I fought it with diet for months, but finally had to start taking an Rx med.
I can’t watch college football though. Makes my BP spike every time.😂😂
I can see how this would emphasize to you to stay the course on your health journey. We don’t want to be sick these days when we have such challenges all around us.

I'm sorry you had such a scare. I understand it totally.
I learned not long ago the issue with coffee, esp decaff which I drank.
I was waking up with a racing heart and I couldn't understand why. I was drinking 2 cups in the morning and rarely got through the second.
I ended up in the ER recently with Bacterial Bronchitis and the doctor told me that even though coffee is decaff it still has a percentage of caffeine, which evidently was bothering me. I had to stop the coffee, and the racing heart has stopped.
I switched to organic Earl Grey tea breakfast blend.
So we do have to take note of everything we digest. I'm on a FODMAP DIET and I have to monitor everything.

Wow! I had no idea caffeine could affect your eyes. I guess it's really elevating your blood pressure that does it. I'm so glad you didn't wait to go to the doctor. As we age, we are more fragile. It's hard to admit, but we must monitor so many things we do as well as eat and drink. I know you're good about going to the doctor and adhering to his/her advice. However, not everyone is good about taking care of their health, which includes checkups. Praise the Lord you were able to discover the problem. We need you around for a long time! Have you tried taking 400mg of VitB2? Fellow migraine sufferer here, tried all the meds, nothing helped much. I read some very positive research on B2 and migraines and decided to try it. It's cheap and safe, I figured I had nothing to lose. It took about a month before I started noticing a slight improvement in both frequency and duration. After 3 months the migraines had become headaches, easily controlled with some paracetamol. Now, 9 months on, I haven't had a migraine for 5 months and only occasionally get a mild headache. To say I'm absolutely astonished that it worked is an understatement. I haven't needed migraine medication for over 7 months.

Dawn I have been struggling off and on with ocular migraines for the past couple of years- mainly during the summer months. When it first happened I had been out mowing the lawn on a really hot day. I was so hot and exhausted afterwards, and came in to get a glass of water. I was standing in the kitchen when it hit me. I experienced a few more over the summer. Finally I went to the eye doctor and was told I was experiencing ocular migraines. I didn't have any pain, I don't have high blood pressure, but I do think dehydration really plays into mine. I hadn't considered my coffee, but I'm glad you mentioned that. Recently I switched to drinking Starbucks at home and I have been experiencing mild headaches and head rushes. I usually drink a mild coffee. I'm happy to hear you are o.k.! It certainly is a scary experience.

I feel you’re extremely fortunate to have noticed that coffee had increased caffeine. I am not sure I would make that connection so quickly.
I know a few people who have gotten injections in their eyes for various reason and it has helped them. Not for the same reason as you but I hope if you do that you get some improvement.
    Many blessings❤

I am going to see an eye specialist this week because I am having major issue with my right eye. They think it is just a cataract which will require surgery, but I have retinopathy so I want it properly checked out. Like you, I became Dr. Google and thought it was an eye stroke from high blood pressure. Take care!

So good to hear you are alright! I'm in my 60's and have had ocular migraines since I was in my early 30's. If I get a headache with them, which is rare, the headache is very mind for which I'm grateful. I usually get them in clusters and then I won't have them for a long time i.e. months. They aren't scary now that I know what they are.

Hi I've had two Ocular migraines in my life. The first one I thought I was having a stroke. Scared the crap out of me. I was really stressed at work. Went right to the eye doc but they made it seem like it was no big deal. The second one didn't really scare me cause I knew what it was. Haven't had one in years. Glad you are ok & you're right we should all take better care of ourselves. TFS ☮️💜

Scarey! So happy with your doctor and that you noticed the caffeine difference. In addition to too much caffeine most people are getting too much sugar at the same time. Because there aren't many that drink black coffee (or tea) only without adding some amount of cream/milk, sugar/sweetener. Energy drinks are flavored sugar water, same as carbonated drinks and juices. All of it over a days time adds up and makes a (negative) difference on our health.

I’m not around your channel all that often, but this one popped up so hi again! My biggest take from this video, is in my opinion, ALL United States citizens need healthcare.
I’ve certainly not always felt this way. We visited a campground for a week in the late 90s and the Canadians were talking about their healthcare and well everything was so different back then. My husband had an actual job and an actual factory with actual money being brought in. Then they moved all those machine shops to China and BAM 💥 my husband’s out of work. AND OUR FAMILY HAS ZERO MEDICAL INSURANCE.
We were on unemployment insurance often during the years we were raising our family. We made too much to get Medicaid for the kids, but not enough to be able to actually go to the doctor.
It’s a quite a thing that we have citizens in this country who might find a lump, but don’t have the money to go get it checked out. Let alone pay for cancer care if that’s what it would be.
In my honest opinion, now that I’m on Medicare for my health insurance and since I’m broke they put me on Medicaid, I pay ZERO to go to the doctor.
I did have trouble recently because Physical Therapy did not take Medicaid and so I would have to pay the 20% of Medicare does not pay so they said I could not go there !🤯. They didn’t even ask me if I could afford. I wanted to keep going where I would owe the 20%. They just said I can’t come there anymore… 😮
Medicare also in my opinion again needs to include dental 🦷.
Now that my savings funds are zero and I have what I have for Social Security income, I believe Medicare should pay for dental, eyes and hearing aids.
It’s just my opinion. Nobody has to agree with me.
This is long. I know it’s too long for anyone to bother reading. It’s just an event of mine I guess.
And be careful who you vote for! One of ours parties want to take MEDICARE totally away. 😮💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

Thanks for sharing your experience. Suggestion: Try drinking decaffeinated coffee. I just had an eye issue and I called my doctor's office and even though I'm on an Advantage Plan, they told me I did not have to get a referral to the eye doctor. So I called the eye doctor and much to my amazement they saw me very quickly. He gave me a full exam and testing. It turned out that I now have an opacity in the vitreous fluid in my right eye. At the end of the visit he told me that the black spot in my vision may or may not go away. It is nothing to worry about, but he'll keep an eye (sorry for the pun) on it when I get exams. He told me that he was glad I came in right away because there was a chance that my retina may have been detaching, but my retina is OK. He told me that if the same thing happens in the other eye or if I see sparkly lights in either of my eyes, he wants me to call his office right away because they will want to make sure I am not having a retina detachment. He says they will get me in immediately. I don't think the black spot is going to go away, it's a nuisance but I can live with it. All of us need to get our eyes checked periodically. Don't put it off if you haven't been for awhile.

What a scary thing to have happened, Dawn. I am glad it has been cleared and you are OK now. I think it is wise to track blood pressure, especially when you are at risk for high blood pressure. Hi Dawn! Glad to hear you're okay. I see a neurologist on a regular basis, for about the last ten years. I also get ocular migraines. Used to be more often than now. I feel we have them under control. Used to get them often while waitressing as my profession. High stresses in life, certain foods, smells or anything can just trigger them. I don't know my exact trigger yet. Or just driving down the road, it will come on, as did in the past. I used to just go to sleep for 4-6 hours, then a dull headache would follow me for 2-3 days afterwards. My doctor says the worst thing to do is lay down and go to sleep, bc then I would never know if i had a seizure in my sleep. So, now I wait for them to pass, about 20 minutes. Then I'm okay. I still feel off, but okay. I am on Nortriptyline, 1 pill every night before bed. I pray this doesn't happen to you again, it is scary!
Take care, Dawn. ❤ From Ohio
