What do you think about Ralph Lauren, and quiet luxury? Do you really think that it's boring? Let me know in the comments below!

Ralph Lauren has been one of my favorite fashion brands since the 80s. The 'preppy' look has been my personal style for 40 years.
I'm a huge proponent of simply allowing people to express their personal fashion style as they see fit.
Quite luxury is not a trend it's been around for decades - it's classic, timeless, sartorial etc.

Boring?? Ralph Lauren and other classic brands are never boring...just the opposite for me. In this day of pajamas and leggings out in public the preppy classy look of minimalism speaks volumes about how head turning quiet luxury is...and it needn't be expensive. Experiment and switch it around. It's no wonder Ralph Lauren is an American original for pure class😊.

Who does not love Ralph Lauren clothing? This truly American designer has the most beautiful and, at the same time, wearable, clothes. A simple turtleneck and a pair of slacks for the well-dressed, polished look, is applicable to everyone, from toddler to dowager. Only Lauren can extol different ethnic looks and yet make them all intrinsically American. He shines in his chosen profession.

Please remember that not everyone who uses Social Media is American! If you actually delve into his designs, you will get influences from many countries that were around well before the US was colonised. He has simply used designs from much older societies which have been blended into what is known as the American way of dress. Cowboy boots, belt buckles, polo shirts, classic blazers etc. did not start off in America. There are many great designers the world over and a very rare few will ever make their name like Ralph Lauren, Gianni Versace, Vivienne Westwood to name a few. Why should anyone even contemplate paying the prices for Ralph Lauren, when great fashion can be bought anywhere. Anyone can be a fashion icon without owning a single garment from a well-known designer. We all have to work with what we have and not strive towards such expensive pieces. All we need to do is to be ourselves!💖

I absolutely agree that many are missing the point. There is nothing boring about it,...until it is poorly imitated. Construction, cut, fit, grade of fabric, hue, and proportion all play a part. A white button down can be boring. It can also be very polished and refined.

I love Ralph Lauren. Definitely on the mark. I have been looking for a knitted pleated white or cream skirt made from natural materials for a couple decades and finally found one at Hudsons Bay Department Store in the Ralph Lauren section. It has a knit pin type pleat and beautiful flow. I am not crazy about the polyester lining. I wish they would use something more breathable like rayon, cotton or silk. I will probably have the lining taken out or replaced with better quality fabric. I try to avoid the polyesters. And acrylic type fabrics.....they are so unhealthy.

I spice up my RL items with western looks...just as RL himself often does. Im Texan so this comes natural to me...A Stetson, boots, tournament cowboy belt with real silver buckle...my RL midi skirts (3 of them) look great this way. I also wear Boho and combine those dresses and skirts with my RL blazers....I have LOTS OF COLORFUL gypsy style midi skirts and maxis...including some ruffled velvet ones ala Snta Fe, these are RL...they combime so well with certain of my RL blazers in winter..I dont wear jean jackets I find them boring unless I am actually riding western... so I up my game with a suede fringe RL jacket or suede ponchos 1 RL and two others in different colors of faux suede...these all are winter items where I live.
All this combines with denim jeans or equestrian pants of course. Esquestrian style RL boots I especially love with my tweed RL shooting jacket with requisite shoulder and elbow patches. I always look distinctive and different where I live, no one dresses anything like me.
For visiting cities I do simpler classic clothes very much the current trend. I spent two months in Chicago and Portland this summer and wore my more traditional things and I fit right in there. Two summer weight RL blazers one navy and the other beige/camel...decades old both with same color slacks and jeans and linen Bermudas....preppy shirts in light pink, baby blue, a few camis for hot weather, a couple of neutral cashmere v neck sweaters and I was set. I could wear any of this any year, every year just changing out simpler or bolder jewelry and scarves and current shoe styles.
This is investment dressing...YOU shine not your clothes and that is the whole point.
I have been collecting RL vintage for three decades so I have alot. These items have stayed while other things have been cycled out in donations etc but I can count on RL items lasting the rest of my life.
Never have I had to throw out anything due to poor construction.

When determining whether certain Basics are "Boring" or not, one needs to realize that the Natural Beauty & Spirit of a Beautiful Woman Enhances the Clothes, NOT the other way around. A Beautiful Woman makes a Basic Wardrobe of Neutral Solid Colors look Good bc SHE is wearing them! It is not Elegant to wear cheap looking clothes in Unflattering Designs, Garish Colors & not properly fitted. If you'd like a bit of Color you can wear Scarves or Colorful Camisoles under a jacket or Blazer! Design is just as important, if not more important than Color & Material. Ralph Lauren has made the "Old Money Look" Popular Again. Well made & Designed Clothes, properly fitted, in Neutral Colors is DEFINITELY "Old Money".
I'm 73 & I've Successfully worn these Basics All My Life!

It seems to me that not a single soul knows what 'quiet luxury' means. It's just another word thrown in for the younger generations to jump onto. The fashions you were referring to as being 'quiet luxury' were nothing but stylish, classic looks! Where have you been??? All outfits can start off with using classics and then built up with accessories to your individual liking. I have worked in every aspect of fashion, even designing and making my own garments. I've worked in the manufacturing sector and retail too. To me, walking around with garments advertising for up-market brands is not 'quiet luxury'. Why are so many insisting on using this unnecessary term? Simply wear what you personally like, as I have always done throughout my lifetime. I have never given a thought to what anyone else thinks of my fashion sense, as it has nothing to do with anyone but myself! I dress for myself and I receive compliments on a continuous basis. Even when seated in a wheel-chair at hospital after a previous nasty accident with my triple broken arm in plaster, I was receiving compliments on the few items I was capable of getting into without assistance. A pair of loose-fit black leather pants, a muted-apricot shade of leather jacket with matching ankle boots. Everything only required me to use a zipper. The staff couldn't wait to get their hands onto my softest of soft leather jacket, despite only able to get one arm into it. The designer had actually worked with Ralph Lauren before moving to a different country. Every time I wear her designs, I receive compliments from strangers, amongst others. Just remember that your outfit will either shine or fade, depending on where you are. There is so much that goes into fashion that using this ridiculous term of 'quiet luxury' is nothing but a joke to those silly enough to use it. Not all of Ralph Lauren's designs run towards the classics. Of course he is known for his wearable, classical, stylish and chic designs, yet so are endless others who do not have such a well-known name. What about those who dress this way, why should they be labelled by some bored social media obsessive? My advice to everyone - wear whatever takes your interest, but make sure it fits well, that is a must! Enjoy fashion and ignore labels!💖
