    Love your work with your Euro. I own an Aussie 2007 Euro Luxury auto that I've had since new (just clicked over 65000km) and I also drive a 2008 IS250 auto as my work car. So when you posted this video clip it I was very interested in your opinion. Now the two Lexus's (or is that Lexi?) have some major differences but I will tell you about some of the issues I have with the Toyota influence on this car. Yes, traction control very intrusive and poorly calibrated (unlike the Euro), it can be turned off but it will reactivate over 50kph (unlike the Euro). I once got bogged on the side of the road. The R/H tyres were on the road and the L/H tyres were on wet grass and greasy dirt. Car would not move forward - just wheel spin. So I had to roll the car backwards until I had both rear tyres on the road before I could drive away (grrr). When trail braking into a tight corner and once the steering is turned more than a few degrees, the brakes are applied by an ECU which feels as though an invisible passenger has stabbed the brake pedal (stuffs up your rhythm and flow). With the 6-speed auto, changing to manual mode makes the trans shift back to 4th gear (even if you don't want that gear - grrrr), and selecting gears will only limit the highest gear the trans can use, not up-changing gear as you tell it to (unlike the Euro), plus you cannot give it full throttle. So if you have 3rd selected and plant the throttle, the trans will go back to 2nd or 1st if the revs allow (grrrr again). Balance feels nose heavy and leans on the outside front tyre (205/55R16 will contribute to less turn-in precision) but the car sits fairly flat through low/hi speed corners. Rear can step out on slippery surfaces quite easily when attempting to power out of tight corners (rear roll effect) especially if the trans then shifts down a gear (and then the stability control jumps in abruptly - grrrr). So I find that I have to manually select a lower gear than I want/need coming into a corner and release the brakes prior to turning in (unloading the front tyres), just so I can balance the car on the throttle on the way out. If you are managing understeer on an icy surface at a slow speed, then the stability control will jump in and try to straighten the car up and will spit you off the road (was a big GGGGRRRRRRRR and OH F__K moment). This is what happens when Toyota build a car for people who can't drive through a corner (i.e. Americans). None of these issues happen in a Euro, however the gear ratios are superior in the Lexus. All of these issues are also in a current Hilux and other Toyotas I have driven. I live in Tasmania (Australia) and the road is The Sideling (look it up on any Targa Tasmania UA-cam clip - bloody awesome road). I hope the IS-F is set-up a lot better than the rest of the IS range. Potentially a good car let down by mediocre software calibration - a Toyota tradition.

    • @KiwiCarLife
      @KiwiCarLife  3 роки тому

      Yes can agree. The only true "drivers" cars that lexus make are the V8 ones (ISF, GSF, RCF, LC500, IS500). All the rest are just camry's in fancy frocks. The gearbox, traction/stability control and throttle response are just not setup to make the most of the rwd package that (most) Lexus's offer. Disappointing. Hence why I would have either an Accord Euro or 325i over an IS250, but I would have an ISF over a 335i or M3 because reliability.

    • @dtengineering1
      @dtengineering1 3 роки тому +1

      @@KiwiCarLife I certainly understand your concern over reliability. I hope you get 6th gear sorted in your Euro as it looked like such a great upgrade. I wish my auto Euro wasn't so tall geared. I am constantly waiting for it to come onto VTEC and then it is all over so quickly. Looked into the ECU upgrade that you suggested but with the Australian ECU's you have to remove them from the car and send them in for the retune. They will lend you an ECU in the meantime so that helps, but I currently have to spend money buying forged pistons for my 200hp turbo air-cooled 1914cc Beetle instead. Keep up the great car reviews.

    • @leviwright134
      @leviwright134 2 роки тому +1

      As an owner of an IS-F (and a CL7 Euro R also) I have seen so many difference's between the is250s/ is350s and the isf, for example obviously half the interior and most of the exterior are different and suspension set up is like a totally different car, gearing is different too once you switch to manual mode it goes straight to the gear you're already in while driving (so it doesn't go straight to "4th" like the other IS') its true manual mode so going 60kmh in 7th gear you can put you're foot down and it'll stay in 7th, diff gears are big difference too much more longer than other IS' (isf built for top end speed) traction control is the same but in isf you can hold button for 5 seconds and it turns it off as well as stability control 100% until turned back on or when car is off. I do have to disagree with you in the traction control as it has saved me BIG time! State highway 2 driving through upper hutt i got sideways at 170 km/h to the point where I knew there was nothing I could do and thought that was my life gone but traction control came on and threw me back straight thank god

    • @leviwright134
      @leviwright134 2 роки тому

      Ever heard of the pedal dance? Look it up and it'll turn your traction control off 100% in your is250 👌
