@@simonrooney7942 I used to always try and get close to the front, but since getting more 'serious' about my videoing, I've started sitting further back where sound quality is much better. Sometimes, during the concert, I wouldn't even notice it, only to watch my video afterwards disappointed with the results, particularly with 'missing' vocals. It's always a challenge finding that sweet spot between visuals and sound quality. I've got a couple coming up where I'll have no choice but to be down the front. Fingers crossed the sound won't be too bad. I too saw them in the '80s but sadly don't remember anything of that gig now. Happy I got to see them again and now have something to remind me of the night into my twilight years.

Was at the Mornington show a few days after this, absolutely epic. Thanks for posting - I was keen to relive the event - got some recordings but not as clear or steady as yours as we were standing in the crowd ... superb, thanks again. Only sad they didn't play First You Jump - that songs a banger!!!

Had front row middle for Melbourne, alas at the start of the year my aorta ripped operated on and various complications I was out of hospital a month later but too weak to attend the 13th! SM NEVER DISAPPOINT! Thanks Peter.
Sorry to hear you missed them. I know what it's like. A couple of years ago I had back surgery and missed two concerts I had really been looking forward to. The back up singer was amazing and you can’t beat Cherisse Ossei on drums.Saw them in Taormina in 2022 and Sydney Feb 24 .Both performances were wonderful. Their longevity is because of the change and growth.
Yes, there are still very much a living band. Still making terrific music. The band performs very well as a whole, capturing the essence of early Simple Minds but not being tied to it.

I’ve been following this Simple Minds tour down under and what stands out is how much the the band seem to be enjoying playing live in concert Btw. I don’t know of any other big bands these days playing 2 shows in one day like they have done here in Sydney
Yes, reports from all their performances have been terrific. They certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves during this show. I was a little worried with two shows in one night, that we'd get 'short changed'. But looking at the other setlists from their other solo concerts, I see we got the full show. Melbourne got one song extra but that hardly counts. Two full shows in one night with less than an hour in between really is something special.
Nice recording. I saw the second show and I thought Jimmy struggled at times through the set. Two shows in the one night is nuts. Still enjoyed it though, such a special band and Charlie Burchill is a stunning guitar player.

I didn't notice her for the first few songs but that was because just how great she is. Without drawing attention to herself, all the songs hang on her playing. I've taken more time watching her in this video and it's very apparent just how good she is. A drum stick to treasure.
It would be easy to be negative, but wow, some of those tunes sounded as good as they ever have. This looked a lot more intimate than the NZ concerts I've seen on UA-cam, which looked a bit underwhelming. I'm a bit disappointed i didn't make the trip to Melbourne now. Thank you for recording and sharing this
@@needleontherecord Right, that is a shame then. I also thought Jim was miming at one point, but it was probably all the backing singers filling in. But let's be honest it's been over 30 years since they were in their prime (maybe 40 years), so it's more about nostalgia at this point - and there's nothing wrong with that.

I wouldn't pick "Don't You Forget About Me" as one of their best. I saw them in '82 on their first tour down-under but not since. This concert really took me back. I'd also been listening to their most recent studio album leading up to it. It would have been good if they'd have played at least one track off it. They are still making great music.

It was a wonderful night, and yes, "Theme for Great Cities" was definitely a highlight. Glad I caught it. I use a small Sony point and shot. Decent quality but easy enough to hide in my pocket.
@@dimibartolillo3056 Sorry for slow reply. I have a RX100 VI which isn't being made anymore. It is still possible to get the VII but production of that has ceased as well. It is also expensive. It would appear the major companies are not interested in producing compacts at the moment. My camera died on me a few months ago, and like you, I was faced with deciding what to do. I looked at some other brands, and while much cheaper, I wasn't totally convinced with reported quality. Thankfully, I was able to get my VI repaired. It cost me slightly more than I'd hoped but I decided I'd rather stay with what I know. It has been a terrific little camera. I just hope it lasts me a few more years yet. Iphones don't appeal to me at all. Good luck with your search. Let me know what you settle with.

I may try to look at getting it fixed, am currently using my iPhone and it's ordinary - you don't get the depth and resolution. Let's see how I go...

It was a terrific concert. Such a long time since I last saw them. Erik Ljunggren is the band's new keyboard player. First live performance with them was in New Zealand. He knows his stuff. In fact, the whole band was excellent. Thanks for commenting.
