As always, amazing video and thanks for sharing your experience!
My pleasure!
Great kite and great updates… Thanks for this video🤩. Enjoy your time there🤙🏾
Thanks, will do!
Amazing video quality and cool overview 🙌🙌
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cheers Steve, just ordered! Looking forward to feeling the difference between these and the 3. Was great to meet you in whitsands SA (ribs now healed 😅) Top man, got time for everyone 🤙🏼
That's great to hear, I'm certain you'll enjoy the new kite a lot! Good to hear that the ribs are healed again, hope to meet you again 🤙
Forgot to mention! On minute 4:10s during the late backroll you add this beautiful late rotation to the landing. This looks sick!! Haven't found any tutorials on how to approach this safely and how to practice. Since your tutorials are amazing, maybe it's an idea for your next one ;) Thanks again for the useful content!!
I only learned this added rotation last season in Capetown! It's true that there are no tutorials about it, would be interesting to create one. Could have a look at doing that on a windy day in Mauritius. The trick is to send the kite far around 12 on the heli loop and use the pull to turn you in to a rotation.
@@stevenakkersdijk That would be awesome!! Is this something that you could also practise with a 12m kite with 18-20 knots and a send it jump or you think it's easier with a smaller kite and stronger wind?
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the video Steven! Very insightful review. Love the Nexus as well but currently moved to XR PRO for the boosting and hangtime ;)
Nothing beats the boosting power of the XR! Been using the XR pro a lot in Capetown for those big air sessions, love it. Just missing a bit of playfulness on that kite, but there are always trade offs.
Sick video homie! Wish I was in Mauritius with you. 🤩
Thanks Michael! You would love this place man! Maybe next year 😉
Very interesting!
Glad you think so!
I'm guessing with your skills, you could all that with any comparable kite..
😂 You're not wrong there. To be fair there are so many good kites out there from all kinds of brands that deliver top notch performance in their own way. In the end it boils down to personal preferences and in my case also to the quality of the equipment. Over the past 9 years of riding CORE kites I've hardly had any issues with the equipment, this gives me a lot of trust which is super important when you try to pull the maximum out of these kites, boards and bars.
3:38 - it is about time to remove the GTS from that chart boss :) Nonetheless, always appreciate your content. Much love from Toronto.
😂 Fair point, it's still a current kite, but I doubt people are still buying it.
I moved from the XRs to the Nexus 3 for most of my riding, and I love how much faster it is, and I love how it drifts better on foiling.... my issue is for twin tipping, it feels like it rides 2-3m smaller than an XR. I'm 235lbs... and I got a similar 12/9/7m quiver as my XRs... but I feel like I should have almost sized up for the nexus? What do you recommend?
Stoked to hear that you're enjoying the Nexus so much! It is very true that the Nexus rides 1 or 2 sizes smaller when it comes to the power of the kite.
Not sure what you're best option is here as it depends a bit on your budget. You could add a 13.5 XR for the low end. Another option would be to switch out the 9 and 7 for a 10 and 8. These would fit better in the range.
Hi Steven, great vibes and an amazing video !! I wanted to know whether XR7 or this new Nexus 4 is a better choice for a rider who wants to do simple kite loops, simple unhooks, and basic hooked-in tricks. Many thanks. Cheers.
Both kites work great for the basic stuff, so both are an option and it depends on personal preference.
The Nexus is more playful and better when it comes to slack during the unhooked tricks and recovery time after the loop (you can loop the bigger sizes Nexus like the 10m and still have it catch you) But you won't have that much hangtime and your jumping technique needs to be more precise to get the height.
The XR is much slower and has an immense amount of power when you pull the bar down which makes jumping super easy. Next to that you'll find that it has great hangtime which can make the landings a bit easier. 8m is the sweet size for loops, 9m is defenitely possible but you'll have to steer it quite well for the kite to catch you.
Personally I prefer the nexus as I have a very fast and playful style of riding. In the end both are great options!
@@stevenakkersdijk Thank you for the detailed reply. Hope to join one of your clinics someday. Cheers
Awesome kite for do it all. I’d love to know what it costs you in excess baggage to fly with every single size in the lineup.
That all depends on the airlines you're flying with, but it helps a lot when you have a girlfriend that you can share the line up with. 😉 (she's always one size down from me and we have a bout 2-3m gaps in bewteen our kites. eg: 5, 7, 9 and 12
Hey Steven, awesome video as always!
Spent a few months on the XR8 12m this season, but do like to surf when I can and this Nexus 4 seems like it might be a better fit.
Do you have any input on which kite has the better low end (12m): XR, XR Pro or this new Nexus 4?
Thanks!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
The XR has the best low end followed by the XR Pro and then the Nexus. This is largely due to the shape that they have and the thinner leading edge on the XR pro.
I would say that you can always ride the XR about a size smaller than the Nexus where the XR pro can be ridden half a size smaller than the Nexus.
Thanks, very helpful!
One more question if you don't mind...
If I am good on a 12m XR + 137cm Imperator, would a 12m Nexus 4 + 5'5'' Badger be comparable in same wind conditions? Or would I end up a bit underpowered and should stick with the XR/ twintip?
Thanks!
@@downwinddrone My pleasure, there's a lot of options out there so I can totaly imagine you have these questions in mind.
From 12m XR with twintip vs 12m Nexus with a surfboard I would say that the surfboard has the better low end as it needs less power to glider through the water.
hey hey!
Mauritius, so awesome. Nexus 8 is my next kite: my Section 7 just had it's 10th repair.
I watched the roll video and realized my back foot was off, so next time I went soooooo high and I could roll and looped and started going down but with lack of support from 7 I had to let go of the board and crashed safely in the water.
On another hand an idea of filming a video foiling big waves in Moulay came up, Section would be much better for that.
what do you think? whats more crazy: backroll kiteloop strapless or foiling in big surf?
Both are amazing to do and I guess it just depends what the conditions are right for. When there is a big swell it should always be utilized, just make sure you have a fast foil to keep in front of the wave 😅
@@stevenakkersdijk yeah man, you get it. Big swells are scarce, so it's my dream - I'll take a trip to Moulay as soon as I get on with finding a decent contract or a job with my programming.
What concerns me tho is that I was riding waves on a 1200 foil before COVID and it was really hard to not overtake the kite. I wonder how I'm going to keep it flying in big surf with a fast foil. Never try - never know.
Wind direction makes a really big difference there, best is a side shore or even slightly off shore wind to help and keep the tension on the lines. This is why wingfoiling in the waves became so popular and liberating as you don't have to worry about slacked lines when you go downwind. On the flip side, you do get properly rinsed when you crash 😅
@@stevenakkersdijk sounds about right: I was riding in side-onshore conditions in Mui Ne, Vietnam. That's why I dream about a side/off spot with proper ocean swell.
I tried wingfoil but here in Dahab I find myself bored without the kiteloops. Maybe if I move to an ocean spot I'd switch as well and wingfoil, but I also value scarcity and it makes sense to do big wave kite foil just because nobody does it.
I hope you're having good sessions, I just had a nice one. Cheers!
Thanks for your valuable contribution.
Bought a Nexus 3 (11m2) last year but conditions didn't let me fly it.
Is Nexus 3 comparable in behaviour to Nexus 4?
Interested specially in Nexus 3 Kite-loop-Behaviour.
Like to learn it, but was hesitating.
Sorry to hear that you didn't get to take your new Nexus 3 kite out yet. The Nexus 3 loops a bit more around the tip (wider turning radius with more speed buildup), this creates more pull during the loop. Both kites are amazing te learn kiteloops with as they're fairly forgiving and recover quick towards 12 o clock. That said, the 11m might be a bit on the big side if you want to pull big kiteloops.
Thank you so much
Hi Steven! Which kite is more lighter? The gts or nexus? Im using my gts5 10m for foiling and is perfect with 9 14knts. I dont know if I have to change to nexus.
I don't have the specific numbers but I'm fairly certain that the Nexus will be a lighter kite as they've been using newer and lighter materials, especially the Nexus 4 has big weights savings due to a lighter bladder material.
Overall I enjoy the Nexus series a lot more for foiling as it provides more lift when you pull the bar down making for easier footswitches and transitions. The loops are also a bit softer than the GTS with a constant power delivery. On the low end you might get 1-2 knots of comfortable kite flying difference between the two.
I would let the switch depend on your budget, the Nexus will be slightly better than the GTS in my opinion, but both work well.
@@stevenakkersdijk thank you for you answer
How is the Material compared to the Alulla? Thanks!
The Exotex 2 dacron used is a bit more stretchy and heavier than the Alula material. If you made the exact same kite out of Alula it would be lighter with the added agility and drift. This does come with a higher price tag and it will also be a bit more fragile. In my opinion kites with a Dacron leading edge are still amazing as they combine: strenght, stiffness and weight for a good price package, there's only certain shapes and specialties where alula will be worth the added costs for a few people.
Hi Steven, I was hoping you might be of some help, I am looking to buy a new Nexus 4 (I have a Nexus 3 in a 9m). Do you think that the next size up should be a 12m or could a 13,5m work? I am just scared that the gap between a 9 and 13.5 might be too big. I can afford no more than a 2 kite quiver.
Second question... how would you compare the pull per size of a nexus vs XR.
Thanks heaps
That's not an easy one 😅 I have done the switch from 9 tot 12 plenty of times and it's manageable if you're not stuck on one style of riding. The switch to a 13,5 is possible, but I don't think it will be very pleasant. Ask yourself the question: would you rather ride a bit earlier in the light winds or work a bit more in the light winds and have more fun when the wind picks up. (this will depend on the average wind at your spot.)
I would say that the power of a 12m nexus is comparable to an 11 XR in the low end, but you'll also be able to hold the nexus down for longer when the wind picks up.
@@stevenakkersdijkThanks heaps!!!
@stevenakkersdijk sorry can I ask you one more question? So I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. So if you have to have only 2 Nexus kites to your disposal. Would you then go 9m+ 12m? Opposed to 9m+ 13,5m as the gap between the 9+ 13.5m might be to big?
Thanks for your reply to my previous message!! Keep up the awesome work!! Loving the content!!😊
@@martinvanniekerk6737 When I only have 2 kites to my disposal I would prefer the 9m and 12m as the gap is less big. Of course the 13.5 will have slightly more pull and start a bit earlier, but there will be a wind speed where you're very powered on the 13.5 and it's light on the 9m. Of course you can cover this by changing riding style or maybe grabbing a surfboard.
Both options will work ok, but personally I prefer to have the smaller gap and give up on 2 knots of low end.
So, ¿is it a mix between Section 4 and GTS 6?
Yes that's correct, the Nexus has always been the kite between Section and GTS providing a better all round experience.
Is the bottom end wind range better on the Nexus 4 vs 3?
Still the same wind range on both kites.
@@stevenakkersdijk thanks for update….still looks like an awesome kite
Geen tellsell stefan. Your way better 😂
Meanwhile people waiting for GTS7 :|
Think you can stop waiting, that kite won't release and the closest we have to it at the moment is the Nexus series.
the problem is that we know that you are sponsored by CORE, which makes this a sales pitch and not an independent review.
I am indeed, but don’t see that as a problem. The nexus series contains amazing kites and I simply highlight why I love it and what’s changed from Nexus 3 to Nexus 4. With that information people can make their own decision on what they prefer 😉
yeah great all around, new materials, etc but ppl rlly? u throw out impact like in 2019 maybe show some love to wakestyle kite once in 5 years ?
btw core have alot of great wakestylers in their team that promotes alot of gear but still rides old shit in comp wtf?!
I can understand it's quite frustrating to see that, especially if it's your kite of choice. From what I've seen there has been very little advancement in the C shapes so instead of changing the colors and slapping a new label on it they rather decide to keep the current kite running. They could maybe switch to a 3 or 4 year product cycle on those specific kites so they also get the new canopy and leading edge material, but that's not up to me 😅
