I was just at a quilt show in July and they had many exhibits with this block. It's was called One Block wonder. It reminds me of a kaleidoscope effect. It was so beautiful to see in person!
That's really beautiful. Looks like great fun. I really enjoyed watching this. Something of a challenge for me I'm sure but I'll never know unless I give it a go.
I can't believe you did this with small blocks. I have a panel and hexie project cut out with 6 regular panels and the 7th one uncut. Unfinished. It takes me forever to decide which of the 3 hexi triangle orientations I like best. Will have to get back to it. Love your quilting spirit and enthusiasm.
There are lots of tutorials for Kaleidoscope quilts out there. It is actually very easy. I've made several and now feel confident and excited about doing this cute little one -- I'd never seen a little one until now! I would recommend starting with a larger panel, or even better, creating a standard kaleidoscope quilt (that uses just fabric repeats) and *then do one that uses a panel(s) -- whether standard sized panels or mini ones like this one. Jordan fabrics has an excellent kaleidoscope tutorial and Revelation quilts has a really great kaleidoscope quilt using panels tutorial. It's way easier than you think :)
I like the idea of this app but frankly they require too much personal information to be collected. Otherwise it looks like a great program but sadly, I cannot try it. 😢
Cute but even after watching thru 2 times I am lost. Do you need Milanote to create? I get to stack, pin, and cut into strips, then cut strips(6) into triangles 6 each stack each stack but from there do you put each stack together to get the different patterns? Like how it turned out
Hi. If there's any other question I can help you with, please let me know. Yes, you use each stack of triangles to form a hexagon. That way you make sure all the triangles are exactly alike and you can create a kaleidoscope effect that is the magical part about this quilt. I use Milanote much like I would use a creative wall. Whenever I find things that inspire me, photos, patterns, colors, etc, I put it on there and start adding all the information and bits and pieces I need until I have a quilt idea in front of me. I'm a visual person, so it's much easier for me to look at all the elements put together. And because I can just get any image or any link and put it on there, it's just a practical and easy way to do it. Before Milanote I used to either create albums on my phone of stuff I took pictures or or actually pin stuff to a cork board. This is much easier and portable hehehe

Hi. Mine tries as well, you can take a piece of fabric and make a lead before sewing the small pieces to decrease the chance of that happening or you can start sewing like 2mm into the fabric so the machine doesn't swallow it.

Well, some end up on my wall, others I give away, mostly I keep though, that's why I tend to make smaller pieces hehehe
What was the final size of your mini quilt. Where did you find such a small panel
I found it on Etsy. It wasn't much bigger than the starting panel, about 7 inches or so.
Did you use 1/4 inch seams on this tiny project?
I did! I probably shouldn't have but I didn't want to risk having different seam allowances

I think Milanote is the best free app for organizing ideas in a visual way, which is how my brain works

How do you work with such small pieces of fabric? My sewing machine would chew them up in a hurry.
