*Smooth operation and love the over sized handle! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend Casts nicely. Fished a recent tournament and used it... had no trouble landing a 6 lb Bass.*
Great review! I appreciate your total honesty. Good to hear of the Negatives too. I wanted a DC reel but ended up buying a Scorpion MD 300 with the extra drag, and Large handle etc but still kinda wonder if I should have got a DC. I definitely have to use my thumb a lot with the MD but am getting used to it. But like I said I would still like to have a DC model as well so am exploring all my options including the 22 Metanium DC Shallow reel as it's a bit more affordable but is still a Metanium. Also the Metanium DC is still made in Japan VS made in Malaysia like the lesser expensive Shimano reels are. There was a time when I was young that made in Japan was a negative but now it's a sign of superior quality so does garner a higher price compared to being made in most other countries.
OneCast Fishing yeh ~ besides the 2020 Shimano metanium MGL? I used a bait-casting reel years ago , one time~ so I’m anticipating to go into that style of fishing now~
im new to bait casters. and the truth is. if you setup a 100 real correctly and know what you doing. i went from 10 back lashes a day to none in months. i get it. its cool. but if you just take the time to setup and tune your gear right. its not a big deal.
Huh I get that with my Abu ALX none DC can cast without backlash, only difference is I just put the thumb on the spool right at the end of the cast, editing, also that is casting into 15-20 knots ocean swell of 1.2 meters with 7 grams soft plastic / 1/4 oz
My 2012 DC unit hasn't failed after 10 years and 2 sets of gears. It is the braking system, so likely the spool would freespin. But i have 4 DC reels, none of which have failed.
Not quite sure. The reel was a demo version and came with 40-50 pound braid on it. I wasn’t about to put new line on it to send it back. However, on the one I got I am using 30 pound braid and 8 pound floro. I use it for jerkbaits
OneCast Fishing I am so confuse. Do you happen to know what the latest year Matenium DC was made? Are all the Matenium DC that was made the same with no change? I’m just very curious, I recently bought one and I have no idea what year it is. All I know is, it’s a Matenium DC XG left hand 8.5.1
Nah...the Shimano Antares A70 crushes it in performance and casting ability. I have both. The New Daiwa Steez Limited with sv boost will probably put both reels in there place when its released end of December.
I sold mine and bought the 2020 Shimano Calcutta 100dc from plat jp. I have to admit its better than the Metanium. The Calcutta can cast small lure much better and more solid feel.
If you do a lot of researching you will see that the spool weight is of critical importance to casting light baits well (finesse), but that also includes the weight of the line. So if you want to cast far you want a shallow light weight spool so it doesn't hold a lot of line. But then you need to consider the size of the line or you may cast it off if your line is too thick. The reel that will do it all has to have a lot of compromises built in. Great engineering helps a lot and Shimano seems to have that in spades. The spools of the DC reels have a magnet built in which I'm sure add a little spool weight but does provide a good dose of consistency and reliability to your cast which combined with the excellent engineering and quality parts adds up to a pretty good value considering it should last many years. Oh, and that sound it makes has to be worth a few extra bucks! LOL
Did you watch the video? It was a demo reel from tackle warehouse. A program they no longer run. So why wouldn't I put in on a rod I already own, especially when I had to ship the reel back a week later...

Great demo thank you really clear photos love this reel
Best part about dc is when it does birds nest, it’s super easy to get it out bc it doesn’t allow for the birds nest to get bad

Really nice reel~ don’t know if I should go for Metanium DC or Antares DC ^^
Thanks for this video
Thanks for watching. You can't go wrong either way
OneCast Fishing I’ll wait for the 2021 lineup but damn it’s kinda addictive browsing for reels on UA-cam! 😁
@@levilah3426 I am not sure they are releasing many new reels next year. Shimano I don't think had any new baitcasters at iCast
OneCast Fishing yeh ~ besides the 2020 Shimano metanium MGL?

A piece of tape on the spool helps alot when spooling new line no slipping
i guess I'm quite off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch newly released movies online?
@Flynn Jeremy I use Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Briar Hezekiah definitely, have been watching on flixzone for years myself :D
@Briar Hezekiah Thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it!
@Flynn Jeremy no problem :)
Great reel, love mine
It was fun to fish with
Nice reel

I have watched and read many reviews that the 2020 metanium mgl is way better than the metanium dc model.

I just got the curado dc 150 dam now I want this 1
Costly but would to have one!
That’s how a feel. It’s fun to fish though
If DC goes out, does reel still work without that assistance. thanks

@@Tallnerdyguy I thank you bro I have 4 myself and there sweet. Take care thanks again for the reply!!

Thanks for responding QUICK.
Is this the 2018 model?
Yes. Not the 2020
OneCast Fishing is there even a 2020 Matenium DC made? Or is the 2018 the latest version?
I think the 2020 metanium they released was the mgl.

The most recent Metanium DC is 2015

All Shimano Baitcasters pull slightly LEFT on hard casts I've noticed. Daiwa's T-wing system does solve that.

Awesome. I might have to test out a Calcutta then. Thanks for watching.
the calcutta is a BFS reel, so comparing the two isn't really fair.
@@Tallnerdyguy no. The Calcutta bfs is a bfs reel. The 100dc is a dc reel.

What gear ratio yoy recommend
7.4
Got a 10kg pike on that reel, easy.
Hey, my 180$ slx sound like that too lol
All dcs do but not all have the same technology.
$500 reel on a $130 mojo bass lol 😂

sounds like a fighter jet? get your ears checked.
Way overpriced
Ridiculous price for a piece of metal with a insert brake i use my thumb as a brake this is a reel for beginners who can't fish the right way.
