My name is Jo-Anne Miner (I go by Jojo.) I've never posted here b4. I thought I would tell you a bit about myself. I will be 65 next month. I'm in a wheelchair and have a lot of health issues. I live in an apartment and have the assistance of PSWs to help me to live my life to the fullest. I love the ideals behind having a Homestead and a large family. It's the life I wish I could have had. It's why I love watching channels such as this. Ladies, your root cellar is magnificent. You have put so much work into it. Congrats! Your family will be benefiting all year from your work. I thought I would share what I'm doing to preserve up food. I began in the spring to can up some homemade soups. I finally got myself a pressure canner and just love being able to can so much more than I ever have b4. I began buying things from the grocery store (I am unable to access fresh farm food,) however I do the best I can. I have canned potatoes and carrots, pickled beats, pickles, cowboy candy, salsa, tomato sauce, corn, beans and so much more. My friend and I bought beef roasts on sale and we canned that. It's so delicious. We have also canned turkey. I baked an extra turkey at our Thanksgiving and baked it. Then I took all the meat off the bones and canned that with a little chicken broth. It turned out so yummy and goes so well with the cranberry sauce I also canned. Now I can have Thanksgiving dinner whenever I want. We also bought chicken breasts on sale and canned that raw. I had no idea it would turn out so good. I have also canned chili and beef stew. Then of course there is the jams... and the pie filling... Blueberry, cherry, apple and peach. All so good. In all, we figured that I have about 800 jars or more. Keep in mind I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. I have to be very strategic about where I put my jars. My best friend Carole; my canning buddy, even made a shelf for me in my room where I have some of it displayed. The rest I have in my closet. It is a work in progress as I come up with new ideas for canning this or that. At first Carole thought I was crazy, now she's my partner in crime. lol.... I am so grateful for your channel and others like yours that encourage this lifestyle. I like to be prepared for anything. I know that I can also share with my friends and family should the need arise. You have encouraged me to do what I do, so thank you. I really appreciate it. I love it that me watching your channel benefits you and your family by providing you with an income which again encourages you. What an amazing system! Love seeing the younger generation continue to keep up with wise /good preservation skills! Besides the basics(flour, sugar, beans, canned goods of all sorts), I like to stock up on chocolate chips, cocoa powder, yeast, baking powder, baking soda, specialty candies/snacks! We live in a 2 bedroom trailer. I am a disabled 66 y old women and i live with my son and two daughters. I have been teaching my youngest daughter the fun of canning. We canned carrots, beans, ground beef, chicken, pork butt, pork chops, turkey breast, bone broth, chuck roast, pineapple,potatoes,sweet patatoes. We froze sweet corn. We have fruit in the freezer for jam. I know we've done more, but i went blank. We dont have a pantry. All my canning is in boxes on the floor of an a addition. We have to get shelving, just waiting for a sale. I too have alot of food from the stores i keep in totes. I do have a large and Small book cases that are packed full. And were not finished. Thats some of what we have put up. Love watching your hauls. Also love watching all the kids having such respect for their parents. And y'all working together. Its a good thing, so refreshing. Great job mom and dad.
Thank you for showing your STORE BROUGHT stuff because for people who can't garden it gives them license to buy what they need to feed their families. Yes, FRESH is best; Yes, GARDEN FRESH is better BUT FEED YOUR FAMILY according to your pocket and circumstances! Amen? Amen!

We have a Michigan root cellar, but the stairs are just to steep and dangerous for me or my mom to be climbing. I wish we could remodel the stairs. It once was used for storage back in the 70's, but such a long time ago. I LOVE your root cellar, it's beautiful. It's obvious, you all took the time and care to create a usable space for all your canned goods. Thank you so much for sharing.😀
I wish I had a root cellar. My mother taught me to can and freeze home grown vegetables. I grew up on a cattle farm and we had pigs, too. I miss those days. Lots of work but good healthy food. It makes me happy to see a family teaching their kids the way to survive on what you grow and raise on the farm.
Your children are awesome!!!!!!! We live in Louisiana and there are no basements or cellars. I order a lot from Azure. We have a freezer filled with purple hull peas, baby lima beans, crowder peas and cream peas we got from a local farmer this summer. Canned a lot of tomato products, potatoes, jams, beans and beef. Getting ready to can more beef and venison. Have a freezer filled with two huge 8 point bucks we had processed that filled a freezer. We get almost all of our beef, chicken and pork from a local farmer. We have bulk wheat berries, flour, corn, oats, sugar, beans, etc. from Azure. Turned an extra bedroom into a huge walk in pantry and it is filled to capacity with store bought food and home canned food. I feel certain we have a year supply of almost everything. Such a comforting feeling especially with the status of our world. Your food supply is great too!

Julianne knows just what's going on-- she must be like your right hand! I wish we had such a beautiful root cellar! I did a lot of canning from my garden this year: salsas, tomatoes, tomato sauce, pickles, relishes, cranberry sauce, and jams.... We just store it where we can. At least the home canned jars look so pretty and even decorative!

I used to watch another homesteader, star something, but I was just getting into stock piling foods, esp. canned goods from the garden. I had never gave it much thought, but she said ( and it stuck with me ) never put all your eggs in one basket, meaning freeze some foods, cann some foods, freezer dry some stuff. Her husband was on her channel, and I guess fry what she said he told her he was tired of kicking a can down the road, they divorced, she kept her channel up for a while, but then it turned, and she never talks about food, how to store etc. I'm Thankful for y'alls family.
Your pantry/root cellar is a testament to your hard work both in the garden and the kitchen - good job ladies. I’m an avid baker and maker of jams, preserves, pickles etc. and I love the process of making my own food.

I really enjoyed this video. I was raised to pantry stock from an early age. My Mom and Dad were raised during the depression and they instilled this in me and my brothers. At my age I don't do much gardening anymore, but I do get produce from family members and farmers markets to put away for the winter. Years ago my husband lost his job and we lived off what we canned and froze until he got another job. That was the year I canned 180 quarts of green beans. We also had potatoes, tomatoes, squash, okra, and greens. I always keep dried beans too. May God continue to bless your wonderful family. ❤
So lovely! Just a small (hopefully helpful) note: the stuff in the floor leeches into the food through the plastic, so it’s advisable to put cardboard down, or a tarp, or even stack it in thin wooden pallets. I was taught this years ago from a dear friend who has been storing and preserving food much longer than I have been. Sending hugs from Michigan.
I love your farmhouse! I live on 5 acres in Southern Wisconsin. I've canned the majority of my meat but still have some in my little 5 cubic foot freezer. I only buy meat that's on sale. I have a few chickens for eggs. They are americaunas. It's the only kind I've ever had but plan on getting some barred rock chick's in the spring, maybe a few more americaunas too. I'm 65 years old, and I'm planning the largest garden of my life in the spring. I have all of my seeds already. From the time I was a child I helped in the garden and canning as well.
We just processed a deer so we have lots of that in the freezer, plus we canned some in chunks for stew too. We also bought half a beef this summer so we have lots of beef too. As far as canning I canned lots of different tomato things, apple butter, we blanched and froze fresh corn, and I froze lots of blueberries and also made strawberry jelly. We bought some food grade buckets and I've been buying dry goods when I find a good deal and store in them. So so thankful to have it all! 🙏 ❤️
I’m so inspired! We have a couple hundred pounds of wheat berries and oats. I just started getting into canning a month ago in anticipation of my own first harvest out of our massive new garden area for 2023. So I’ve been canning broth, butternut squash, beans, and lots of green tomatoes goodies like salsa verde and green tomato relish.
What a wonderful pantry. My bulk is kept in my basement on shelves. There is just 2 of us, so I don’t have that much. My pantry is filled with home canned tomatoes from whole tomatoes to pasta sauce and everything in between, a lot of pickles and relishes, sauerkraut, pumpkin, jams and jellies, green beans, juices, applesauce and pie filling. I have a variety of items. I now can in pints instead of quarts. Jellies and jams are in the little jelly jars. I don’t can the large volume of food I use to and I try to can for 2 years.
We turned the closet under the stairs into a pantry. We’ve been stocking up on everything when it goes on sale. We also have things that we have canned ourself. I have purchased dry beans, and then we can them so they’re ready to eat.
You are so lucky! I am constantly battling criticism for my storage and preparedness from family. I wish I could get support like you have. Hoping someday I do!

Hello Dear Family!!! I wanted to share that I’ve never made apple butter. It wasn’t till I saw the apple butter video, that I shared with my husband that I wanted to try. Oh Goodness, it came out so good! My daughter came home and she immediately went to try some, and her reaction was so priceless. Thank You for all you share. 💛
Thank you for this video. You do a great job organizing everything. I live in East Tennessee and do not have a cellar. My Granny had a cellar and canned everything. She was still canning in her 90s. My Dad is 88 and canned up until last year. Happy Thanksgiving!
An idea for yous. If you cook & eat lobster or shrimp. Save your shells, to make broth from for stir fries, or soups. Just boil again. If you cook your shrimp, such as boil the shrimp with the shells still on save & can the broth.
I’d love a root cellar. But living on clay and limestone so pretty much not gonna happen. But I do have a very secured and temp controlled 10x20 room. But I’m outgrowing it. And fast. I used pallets to build my compost area. Free wood! I’d leave the jars up on top simply because if you put heavy things up there you could get hurt getting them down. Though maybe you could add an additional shelf over the jars if you can and store them more condensed! The things that take so much of my space is cases of water and empty jars. Oh and dog food. I keep no less than 100 pounds for our German Boxer. I bought a huge very sealed rolling trash can to seal dog food in. And treats of course! That tomato sauce just reminded me I have gallons of puréed tomatoes in freezer bags full in the freezer I need to get out and cook it down to sauce and get it canned! I do wish at my advanced age I had the amazing help you have. It often falls 100% on me. At 65 with health issues I do the best I can. With some grandchildren with autism and prefer to provide organic foods from my garden. But still always open to sales at the stores as well. I have learned to adjust my pace and try to except my limits now.
Fantastic job! It is definitely hard work. So very rewarding too. SPECIAL NOTE: Any of my squash or pumpkins that lose their stem, I process immediately. Those tend to rot quickly. Sadly, it then spreads to the others fast. I've also found that single layer storing offers the longest storage time. Airflow around all vegetables and fruits is the goal. That looks so full of good things. I love that most of it is home grown . It's late spring here and so preserving every bit is my goal. Currently lots of things are small and developing on plants but I decided to let every self sown cherry tomato that sprouted ,totally alone to grow themselves. I'm absolutely floored by their loads. So far ive pulled in 15kg of tomatoes... thats incredible. I've dehydrated 7 kg to powder and the rest are rinsed and in the freezer waiting for enough of them or of our tomatoes that will produce soon , I'll do tomato puree with most of those. I'm hoping this year to get much closer to having our main tomato needs met. I met our pizza sauce and tomato salsa with a few jars of sauce and plenty for fresh eating. I'm realising how many tomato bushes might be needed by our largish family. Lol. It's a lot ...of just tomatoes. Great job everyone. Thank you for sharing 💜
Isn't it crazy how many tomatoes you need to grow to cover all the tomato products we use?!? I literally do not have the extra acre of land I need for just my tomato needs. 😂 And we're just a family of 3 adults!
I just got an electric roaster oven and an electric pressure canner so I can start canning meat, broth, and veggies. I've done water bath canning for years

Looks wonderful Ladies! You have all done well. Good job! Everything is sitting in my dining room right now because I have to fix up the cellar (grandma's cellar door in floor opening to a sand cellar) and the floor of the house. But have big plans! Garden was a surprise this year as it was abused, but with what it produced and some items that I was gifted, I feel very blessed. Still doing chickens and have turkeys to do as well. Then after Christmas I will be doing up some convenience meals for the pantry shelves...or more boxes in the dining room dependent on if I get cellar done. Thinking I may try a few jars of chicken and turkey the way you do it. I have trouble growing butternut squash (too short season) but found a miniature version to try next year - my spaghetti, Canada Crooked necked, butter cup and pumpkins are all curing (and ripening for some) nicely in the entry way...I did well with only 89 days growing time. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice video. I know many only show the home canned\processed foods on their videos. I don't feel its wrong to show store bought as well. We live in a world that mainly buys foods in the store. We don't have a farm but go to Sam's and buy bulk meat and can those. The one thing we have the most of is hash. I feel that if the grid went down or things got tough we could cook the hash on our wood stove. We LOVE cowboy candy and have lots of peach salsa. (also have lots of Aldi fruit).
Love your cold storage. I found hit pepper pickle's with mixed veggies in them we blow threw more if a coughing comes on and next year we grew so many zucchini but relish and sweet pickle zucchini took up and then I made my first pineapple zucchini and so next year we're doing lot's lot's of it why I started talking the chunk's out and dehydrated it tell dry flexible also do it on plastic mesh your going to pill off after put one tablespoon of powdered sugar and one tablespoon of corn starch mix in bag then drop dehydrated pineapple zucchini and you have candy. Oh my smake the hands that take two hand fulls oh it's so good. Yep learning how to make candy out of veggies.
Hot pepper pickle's and hot pepper green cherry tomatoes put onion and red chilli in to add heat. Stick hole in tomatoes so juice gets in and add one teaspoon of pickle crunch so it keeps a crunch.
Love your root cellar!! I am stocking up on very similar items that you have . We don’t have room to raise our own meats but we do have chickens for eggs and I have about 15 dozen water glasses eggs this year! I had to laugh when you talked about stocking up on tuna, we eat a lot of tuna and I got in the habit several years ago of buying no less than 10-20 cans every time I grocery shopped. Anytime something g is on sale, I stock up! We can lots of green beans, tomatoes and other vegetables. We have a cellar room that looks much like your root cellar. Happy Thanksgiving to your family😊🙏
Well done! I'm focusing on storing potatoes, onions and sweet potatoes that I've gotten from the Thanksgiving sales right now. And I bought quite a few McIntosh apples that were $0.99 for 3lbs. I'm dicing those and making them into apple pie kits for the freezer. Definitely worth the freezer space to have apple pie ingredients ready throughout the year!
Oh what's in my stockpile ? Tons of beans, rice, I canned beef, broths, tuna in water, chicken in a can, all sorts of oils, sugars, veggies from right before COVID hit, I'd buy 2-3 cases of stuff back then, my freezer was in my outdoor building, two of them, someone broke into my home and stole a bunch of stuff, mostly crazy stuff, like a used toilet brush lol, but what we didn't know, they cut the wire that put power in my buildings, so needless to say I lost everything in two freezers 😭😭😭😭. God will make a way for me, he always does.
got a 12 pack of baby clams on a sale my brother thought I was crazy but he loves clam chowder and I try to have evaporated milk and skim milk powder on hand as we sometimes have to use these in our cooking as fresh milk goes fast and we shop only when we have to

We are unable to get anything from Azure as they don't come to our area. I depend mostly on Aldi and a local store called Marcs for our groceries and to fill our pantry in the basement. I do not canned so everything is bought. Still trying to find the buckets to store our pastas, bags of beans, flour, brown and white sugar. Your root cellar reminds me of the one we had in the house I grew up in. I come from a family of 7 and it was completely full during the winter. We have been unable to find beef or ham to buy from a farmer for our freezer we just bought so watching for sales and buying ground beef, roasts, pork chops, sausage when on sale.
We don't have root celars in south Mississippi because of the rain and moisture but up north Mississippi they have some houses that have them but I would love one
What on earth is the benefit of creeping charlie!? I spent all summer trying to get rid of it in my little garden. All the while thinking " there's so much of this stuff. I bet it's some miracle cure!" 😜
I am wondering about expirations dates/ year canned- if you are concerned about rotating, also what is the temperature in the root cellar? SOOOOO nice to have a "cool, dry" place to keep things. Time for another "using your stockpile😁" recipes!!
Our root cellar is 50 degrees today and will definitely get cooler through the cold winter. The goal for a root cellar is between 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit. And high humidity actually works fine in a root cellar. I think our humidity fluctuates between 50% and 70% down there. But you can have upwards of 80% or 90% humidity in a root cellar storage situation and still be successful. Yes, Julian is very thorough with rotation. What we tend to do is can up a lot of a certain item, example would be bone broth, and then keep those new jars up on the table. When we are done canning up that particular item we will rearrange The Root cellar accordingly with the older items towards the front and the newer items towards the back. We label all of our jars with the date as well as what the item is.
I really want to invest in outdoor canning equipment. Sometimes after canning chicken or turkey (if siphoning of the juices has occurred and mixed with the vinegar water 🤢) as soon as I open the canner, my family across the house starts the blame game of who delt it. Don't get me wrong the end product is delicious and worth all the work, but the smell is very displeasing ..So 2 weeks straight of that?! Kudos to you all!
I COMPLETELY understand exactly what you are saying. We are so tired of smelling chicken right now :-) but still grateful for the stock pile. Outdoor equipment would be awesome. I have started emptying out my digital pressure canner between each use for that exact reason. It helps with the smell. ❤️❤️❤️

But I think if I have to endure the smell, I want to get as much canned and out of my way at once or in the least number of batches lol . I had to make room in a freezer and roasted and canned a turkey yesterday...it was late so I just let it cool in the canner overnight. I opened it this morning and I'm telling you that's NOT what you want to smell so early.
@@rachelrodriguez4053 I butcher in my dining room when its cold and as long as I clean it out right away no problem. Have you tried putting some chicken stock on with seasoning (celery, onions, etc) in the slow cooker to slowly "flavor" the air. None the less, butchering and canning tastes good, but doesn't always smell such.
@@dhansonranch yes I do use aromatics if not raw packing, but still doesn't eliminate the smell (from the canning process) it doesn't last long because I open windows and air out the smell
Wow, what an amazing space, and your daughter is so good at this 🥰 I have a question. I canned mango jam, and then when I posted to share in a group on Facebook, they said that there is no approved recipe for it. I ended up putting it in the freezer instead. How do you feel about that? Or did you find this recipe approved? On one hand, I am learning, so I want to be safe, but I feel experience is the best teacher, and I see many seasoned canners canning some things that "they" say are not approved, lol. We have a Michigan root cellar, but the stairs are just to steep and dangerous for me or my mom to be climbing. I wish we could remodel the stairs. It once was used for storage back in the 70's, but such a long time ago.

I wish I had a root cellar. My mother taught me to can and freeze home grown vegetables. I grew up on a cattle farm and we had pigs, too. I miss those days. Lots of work but good healthy food. It makes me happy to see a family teaching their kids the way to survive on what you grow and raise on the farm.
Your children are awesome!!!!!!! We live in Louisiana and there are no basements or cellars. I order a lot from Azure. We have a freezer filled with purple hull peas, baby lima beans, crowder peas and cream peas we got from a local farmer this summer. Canned a lot of tomato products, potatoes, jams, beans and beef. Getting ready to can more beef and venison. Have a freezer filled with two huge 8 point bucks we had processed that filled a freezer. We get almost all of our beef, chicken and pork from a local farmer. We have bulk wheat berries, flour, corn, oats, sugar, beans, etc. from Azure. Turned an extra bedroom into a huge walk in pantry and it is filled to capacity with store bought food and home canned food. I feel certain we have a year supply of almost everything. Such a comforting feeling especially with the status of our world. Your food supply is great too!

Julianne knows just what's going on-- she must be like your right hand! I wish we had such a beautiful root cellar! I did a lot of canning from my garden this year: salsas, tomatoes, tomato sauce, pickles, relishes, cranberry sauce, and jams.... We just store it where we can. At least the home canned jars look so pretty and even decorative!

I used to watch another homesteader, star something, but I was just getting into stock piling foods, esp. canned goods from the garden. I had never gave it much thought, but she said ( and it stuck with me ) never put all your eggs in one basket, meaning freeze some foods, cann some foods, freezer dry some stuff.
Her husband was on her channel, and I guess fry what she said he told her he was tired of kicking a can down the road, they divorced, she kept her channel up for a while, but then it turned, and she never talks about food, how to store etc. I'm Thankful for y'alls family.

I really enjoyed this video. I was raised to pantry stock from an early age. My Mom and Dad were raised during the depression and they instilled this in me and my brothers. At my age I don't do much gardening anymore, but I do get produce from family members and farmers markets to put away for the winter. Years ago my husband lost his job and we lived off what we canned and froze until he got another job. That was the year I canned 180 quarts of green beans. We also had potatoes, tomatoes, squash, okra, and greens. I always keep dried beans too. May God continue to bless your wonderful family. ❤

Made some Roselle jam today from home grown roselle. It is exciting preserving your home grown produce for long term use!
So lovely! Just a small (hopefully helpful) note: the stuff in the floor leeches into the food through the plastic, so it’s advisable to put cardboard down, or a tarp, or even stack it in thin wooden pallets. I was taught this years ago from a dear friend who has been storing and preserving food much longer than I have been. Sending hugs from Michigan.
I love your farmhouse! I live on 5 acres in Southern Wisconsin. I've canned the majority of my meat but still have some in my little 5 cubic foot freezer. I only buy meat that's on sale. I have a few chickens for eggs. They are americaunas. It's the only kind I've ever had but plan on getting some barred rock chick's in the spring, maybe a few more americaunas too. I'm 65 years old, and I'm planning the largest garden of my life in the spring. I have all of my seeds already. From the time I was a child I helped in the garden and canning as well.
We just processed a deer so we have lots of that in the freezer, plus we canned some in chunks for stew too. We also bought half a beef this summer so we have lots of beef too. As far as canning I canned lots of different tomato things, apple butter, we blanched and froze fresh corn, and I froze lots of blueberries and also made strawberry jelly. We bought some food grade buckets and I've been buying dry goods when I find a good deal and store in them. So so thankful to have it all! 🙏 ❤️

I’m so inspired! We have a couple hundred pounds of wheat berries and oats. I just started getting into canning a month ago in anticipation of my own first harvest out of our massive new garden area for 2023. So I’ve been canning broth, butternut squash, beans, and lots of green tomatoes goodies like salsa verde and green tomato relish.
What a wonderful pantry. My bulk is kept in my basement on shelves. There is just 2 of us, so I don’t have that much. My pantry is filled with home canned tomatoes from whole tomatoes to pasta sauce and everything in between, a lot of pickles and relishes, sauerkraut, pumpkin, jams and jellies, green beans, juices, applesauce and pie filling. I have a variety of items. I now can in pints instead of quarts. Jellies and jams are in the little jelly jars. I don’t can the large volume of food I use to and I try to can for 2 years.
We turned the closet under the stairs into a pantry. We’ve been stocking up on everything when it goes on sale. We also have things that we have canned ourself. I have purchased dry beans, and then we can them so they’re ready to eat.
Love the cellar. We have a walk out basement that I think we could do something like this in. Great job!

An idea for yous. If you cook & eat lobster or shrimp. Save your shells, to make broth from for stir fries, or soups. Just boil again. If you cook your shrimp, such as boil the shrimp with the shells still on save & can the broth.

I’d love a root cellar. But living on clay and limestone so pretty much not gonna happen. But I do have a very secured and temp controlled 10x20 room. But I’m outgrowing it. And fast. I used pallets to build my compost area. Free wood!
I’d leave the jars up on top simply because if you put heavy things up there you could get hurt getting them down. Though maybe you could add an additional shelf over the jars if you can and store them more condensed! The things that take so much of my space is cases of water and empty jars. Oh and dog food. I keep no less than 100 pounds for our German Boxer. I bought a huge very sealed rolling trash can to seal dog food in. And treats of course! That tomato sauce just reminded me I have gallons of puréed tomatoes in freezer bags full in the freezer I need to get out and cook it down to sauce and get it canned! I do wish at my advanced age I had the amazing help you have. It often falls 100% on me. At 65 with health issues I do the best I can. With some grandchildren with autism and prefer to provide organic foods from my garden. But still always open to sales at the stores as well. I have learned to adjust my pace and try to except my limits now.

SPECIAL NOTE: Any of my squash or pumpkins that lose their stem, I process immediately. Those tend to rot quickly. Sadly, it then spreads to the others fast. I've also found that single layer storing offers the longest storage time. Airflow around all vegetables and fruits is the goal. Summed up in the previous sentence.

That looks so full of good things. I love that most of it is home grown . It's late spring here and so preserving every bit is my goal. Currently lots of things are small and developing on plants but I decided to let every self sown cherry tomato that sprouted ,totally alone to grow themselves. I'm absolutely floored by their loads. So far ive pulled in 15kg of tomatoes... thats incredible. I've dehydrated 7 kg to powder and the rest are rinsed and in the freezer waiting for enough of them or of our tomatoes that will produce soon , I'll do tomato puree with most of those. I'm hoping this year to get much closer to having our main tomato needs met. I met our pizza sauce and tomato salsa with a few jars of sauce and plenty for fresh eating. I'm realising how many tomato bushes might be needed by our largish family. Lol. It's a lot ...of just tomatoes. Great job everyone. Thank you for sharing 💜

Looks wonderful Ladies! You have all done well. Good job! Everything is sitting in my dining room right now because I have to fix up the cellar (grandma's cellar door in floor opening to a sand cellar) and the floor of the house. But have big plans! Garden was a surprise this year as it was abused, but with what it produced and some items that I was gifted, I feel very blessed. Still doing chickens and have turkeys to do as well. Then after Christmas I will be doing up some convenience meals for the pantry shelves...or more boxes in the dining room dependent on if I get cellar done. Thinking I may try a few jars of chicken and turkey the way you do it. I have trouble growing butternut squash (too short season) but found a miniature version to try next year - my spaghetti, Canada Crooked necked, butter cup and pumpkins are all curing (and ripening for some) nicely in the entry way...I did well with only 89 days growing time. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice video. I know many only show the home canned\processed foods on their videos. I don't feel its wrong to show store bought as well. We live in a world that mainly buys foods in the store. We don't have a farm but go to Sam's and buy bulk meat and can those. The one thing we have the most of is hash. I feel that if the grid went down or things got tough we could cook the hash on our wood stove. We LOVE cowboy candy and have lots of peach salsa. (also have lots of Aldi fruit).

Love your cold storage. I found hit pepper pickle's with mixed veggies in them we blow threw more if a coughing comes on and next year we grew so many zucchini but relish and sweet pickle zucchini took up and then I made my first pineapple zucchini and so next year we're doing lot's lot's of it why I started talking the chunk's out and dehydrated it tell dry flexible also do it on plastic mesh your going to pill off after put one tablespoon of powdered sugar and one tablespoon of corn starch mix in bag then drop dehydrated pineapple zucchini and you have candy. Oh my smake the hands that take two hand fulls oh it's so good. Yep learning how to make candy out of veggies.
Hot pepper pickle's and hot pepper green cherry tomatoes put onion and red chilli in to add heat. Stick hole in tomatoes so juice gets in and add one teaspoon of pickle crunch so it keeps a crunch.
I made the apple butter and can I say delicious!

I am stocking up on very similar items that you have . We don’t have room to raise our own meats but we do have chickens for eggs and I have about 15 dozen water glasses eggs this year! I had to laugh when you talked about stocking up on tuna, we eat a lot of tuna and I got in the habit several years ago of buying no less than 10-20 cans every time I grocery shopped. Anytime something g is on sale, I stock up! We can lots of green beans, tomatoes and other vegetables. We have a cellar room that looks much like your root cellar.

Well done! I'm focusing on storing potatoes, onions and sweet potatoes that I've gotten from the Thanksgiving sales right now. And I bought quite a few McIntosh apples that were $0.99 for 3lbs. I'm dicing those and making them into apple pie kits for the freezer. Definitely worth the freezer space to have apple pie ingredients ready throughout the year!
I have a big basement with about 1/4 of it unfinished. That’s where my pantry is. It’s overflowing now and that’s okay with me.

Oh what's in my stockpile ? Tons of beans, rice, I canned beef, broths, tuna in water, chicken in a can, all sorts of oils, sugars, veggies from right before COVID hit, I'd buy 2-3 cases of stuff back then, my freezer was in my outdoor building, two of them, someone broke into my home and stole a bunch of stuff, mostly crazy stuff, like a used toilet brush lol, but what we didn't know, they cut the wire that put power in my buildings, so needless to say I lost everything in two freezers 😭😭😭😭.
God will make a way for me, he always does.

got a 12 pack of baby clams on a sale my brother thought I was crazy but he loves clam chowder and I try to have evaporated milk and skim milk powder on hand as we sometimes have to use these in our cooking as fresh milk goes fast and we shop only when we have to

We are unable to get anything from Azure as they don't come to our area. I depend mostly on Aldi and a local store called Marcs for our groceries and to fill our pantry in the basement. I do not canned so everything is bought. Still trying to find the buckets to store our pastas, bags of beans, flour, brown and white sugar. Your root cellar reminds me of the one we had in the house I grew up in. I come from a family of 7 and it was completely full during the winter. We have been unable to find beef or ham to buy from a farmer for our freezer we just bought so watching for sales and buying ground beef, roasts, pork chops, sausage when on sale.
We don't have root celars in south Mississippi because of the rain and moisture but up north Mississippi they have some houses that have them but I would love one

Our root cellar is 50 degrees today and will definitely get cooler through the cold winter. The goal for a root cellar is between 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit. And high humidity actually works fine in a root cellar. I think our humidity fluctuates between 50% and 70% down there. But you can have upwards of 80% or 90% humidity in a root cellar storage situation and still be successful. Yes, Julian is very thorough with rotation. What we tend to do is can up a lot of a certain item, example would be bone broth, and then keep those new jars up on the table. When we are done canning up that particular item we will rearrange The Root cellar accordingly with the older items towards the front and the newer items towards the back. We label all of our jars with the date as well as what the item is.

I really want to invest in outdoor canning equipment. Sometimes after canning chicken or turkey (if siphoning of the juices has occurred and mixed with the vinegar water 🤢) as soon as I open the canner, my family across the house starts the blame game of who delt it. Don't get me wrong the end product is delicious and worth all the work, but the smell is very displeasing ..So 2 weeks straight of that?! Kudos to you all!
I COMPLETELY understand exactly what you are saying. We are so tired of smelling chicken right now :-) but still grateful for the stock pile. Outdoor equipment would be awesome. I have started emptying out my digital pressure canner between each use for that exact reason. It helps with the smell. ❤️❤️❤️

But I think if I have to endure the smell, I want to get as much canned and out of my way at once or in the least number of batches lol . I had to make room in a freezer and roasted and canned a turkey yesterday...it was late so I just let it cool in the canner overnight. I opened it this morning and I'm telling you that's NOT what you want to smell so early.
@@rachelrodriguez4053 I butcher in my dining room when its cold and as long as I clean it out right away no problem. Have you tried putting some chicken stock on with seasoning (celery, onions, etc) in the slow cooker to slowly "flavor" the air. None the less, butchering and canning tastes good, but doesn't always smell such.
@@dhansonranch yes I do use aromatics if not raw packing, but still doesn't eliminate the smell (from the canning process) it doesn't last long because I open windows and air out the smell

I canned mango jam, and then when I posted to share in a group on Facebook, they said that there is no approved recipe for it. I ended up putting it in the freezer instead. How do you feel about that? Or did you find this recipe approved? On one hand, I am learning, so I want to be safe, but I feel experience is the best teacher, and I see many seasoned canners canning some things that "they" say are not approved, lol.
