Thank you Saeed. Since 2002 listening After Forever, i love Floor jansen. Listen to Evoke, estranged.... thanks
Thanks so much for watching and the recommendations.
like i said on your previous after forever reaction, this is the floor that is free and amazing.
after forever is also a amazingly high level of consciousness
To be free... what a gift. Definitely want to explore more of their music.
Floor's vocal abilities is astounding. Thank you Saeed. Greetings from South Africa
100%
When I heard about Tarja Turunnen's departure from Nightwish, I had always said that Floor from After Forever was the only possible person at the same level.
People laughed... I was right. :)
This was back in the early Floor/ After Forever days, to where I really got interested in her storytelling abilities. She really talked to my interpretation of the lyrics..
Her playing with the high og low notes, to make emotions flow....
I can't remember if this is one of Floor's own written songs - it was Mark's
Mark wrote the lyrics ....him floor and sander the music
You can certainly hear where Mark Jansen got the idea for Epica here. Fortunately he didn't need a singer with all of Floor's vocal versatility but Simone is still a great singer.
First off Thank You for playing my request ........
2nd i agree 1000% with everything you said Saeed ....unfortunately it seems this song will be relevant 100 yrs from now but who knows .
That middle section absolutely sounds like a battle with the haunting keyboard soaring over it .
After Forever was a fantastic band who was every bit as good as Nightwish, i actually liked them better ....you can understand why Floor was devestated when they broke up
Once again Thank You
Thanks so much for this one. What a great band. Its always sad when that comes to an end. Glad you requested this! Have a wonderful day, my friend .
@@SaeedReacts. I'm glad that you enjoyed it my brother.
I wonder about an overlap between this song and Epica's Sancta Terra (love it, the video of the concert when Floor sings that with Epica with choir and orchestra). Generally I dislike songs in which lyrics are about politics - politics are divisive and music should be uniting - but I admire how some symphonic metal bands quite intellectually approach grand themes and write about the human component, the dreams and fears, the hopes and pains, the thirst for knowledge and understanding.
I feel the same way, Erick. I am aware these are important, but like you said it can be divisive. Definitely want to get inyo Epica as well at some point.
These early days of After Forever are for me the best. It might have been my subjective ideas but after Mark left they missed a composer. Not saying that I did not love them after that happened, they were a fantastic band until they stopped. It was a great time to explore great metal bands with great female voices.(Nightwish, After forever, Epica, Within temptation and The gathering). Depends on the mood what I like best.
This album is really great.
Mark wanted to combine classical music with metal, Sander wanted more guitar oriented music and these two couldn't be together. In the end we got two big bands instead of one.
"Forlorn Hope" has a special meaning in English. When a British/English army was assaulting a newly made breech in a fortification, they would send in the "Forlorn Hope". These assault groups were usually made up of either very keen volunteers or soldiers who had committed serious offences. The offenders would be offered pardons if they took part and survived. These assault groups would be lead by officers who either had been disgraced and were looking to redeem themselves or by very ambitious officers looking to climb the ranks via a glorious success. The casualty rates for the the Forlorn Hope missions were very high, but the rewards for success were also high. To survive was to win the combat lottery.
After Forever is recasting the "Forlorn Hope" in the terms of a modern day jihadist. "Sancta Terra" by Epica is treading the same ground.
Thanks for sharing this ! Learned something new. Appreciate it.
