    Just wanted to say, you are an excellent teacher. I very much appreciate the information that you share. I've not found anyone else who covers not only machine operation so we'll, but also business operation.
    Thank you!

    I rarely use float while back blading because it tends to cut in. I'd rather operate the blade to control it. Then again, I've only ran a dozer 30k-40k hours (maybe more, who counts) over the last 30+ years.

      Most of the time I'm the same way. Only in applications like this where it's almost perfectly flat will I use float. I actually address the problem with the blade cutting in. Thanks for watching!

      When do you use float mode then? I just bought an old dozer and I’m learning to operate it. I know almost nothing about using it, but it seems like using float going forward would REALLY cause it to dig in(??)
      Or do you just not use it at all? If not, do you think it’s more useful for a beginner than for someone with lots of experience?

      @@truthsmiles I pretty much never use float on a dozer. I guess you could use it going forward if you were on a super hard surface like asphalt. Sometimes I use float snowplowing on a loader but most of the time I don’t. I learned without float, didn’t even know it existed for the first 5-6 years of my career lol.

      I will often have a float whenever and where ever I can. Mostly chocolate float is my favorite, but sometimes I'll spurge and treat myself to a root beer float. R3minds me of when I was a kid.

    Float works great for scraping pavement I often float half of my blade on pavement to cleanly shape the edge of a ditch but I do normally work on roads that are going to be repaved

      Great point! That's a great use for float where you don't want to gouge into the pavement or asphalt. Thanks Jessica!

      If I had to guess I would say I have around 2-3k hours running dozers of varying sizes. A d5 like this one was my primary machine for about a year and a half.I. hope it shows in the work! 🤣🤣

    back draggin only makes it look good until someone drives over it with their pickup. it makes it soft and anything driven over it makes ruts

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  3 роки тому +1

      It fluffs the top a little but not too bad. Ultimately the only way to avoid ruts on a parking lot project like this is to have a roller on hand. Unfortunately I didn't have access to one for this project.

    • @billtmarchi4320
      @billtmarchi4320 2 місяці тому

      We float or backblade to fill in the ruts. As when the mud and dirt pushes up and ruts out. We blade it back level run over it and wait for log trucks to run it out again. Not everyone is pushing loose filldirt on flat ground. Need more video of operating on steep grades and running over trees and stumps and operation on solid rock bluffs and hills.

    According to some key board operators on here , backblading is a sackable offence, here he is teaching people how to do it, WTF ?????. I have been on dozers for nearly 58 yrs and backblade when needed to finish off a job if needed. Its interesting to see other peoples comments on stuff like this.

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  3 місяці тому +1

      Everyone loves to play the "holier than thou" dozer card by claiming you should never back blade. When you are laying down your initial grade you should absolutely be cutting while going forward. That being said, as you stated, when finishing you have no choice but to back blade to get your track marks out of the grade. I realize you already know this but, I want to restate it for rookie operators who might be reading through the comments. Thanks for the comment brother!

      Youve been on dozers for 58 years?? They have programs and groups that will help people with addictions to drugs. But you have to want to quit, and admitting you have a problem of spending that many year abusing "dozers" is step one to being cured of your addiction.
