Unlike the narrative of the last few words on this video, "In the end, that 60's pop star became just a memory", Scott Walker was more that just a 60's pop star. From his beginning in circa 1959 until this year we should remember all of his 60 plus years in the different forms of music. He did what he chose to do and that should be the utmost respect.
I remember when I was a child asking my father were the Walker Brothers an Irish folk group as my dad's had a lot of this genre he played it for me and I was hooked what a tremendous voice he had Many years have passed I was in hospital for an outpatient appointment I was waiting in the hospital pharmacy for medication when it come over on the BBC News that Scott Walker had passed away I'm not going to lie but I cried because I lost my mum and dad within six weeks of eachother not long before Scott passed away I often play Young Man Cried I'm not young I'm 59 next birthday and it still brings tears to my eyes knowing that my parents are not here anymore but I find comfort in listening to this man sing and I smile because his music reminds me of my parents R.I.P. Scott Walker you were and still are not forgotten
He wasn't just a pop star - he was a great singer who had a wonderful voice - a lot of current so called 'pop stars' should die for his voice --- if you know what I maen.
This is a sudden shock! I discovered the news through playing one of his best recordings just now......' Joanna '. I recognised his outstanding vocal talent in the mid-60s as a young man myself. And it won't surprise you to learn that it was not only young women who admired his good looks but many of us young guys who often did our best to emulate his style and appearance. Hearing of his passing has struck a chord that must resonate deeply within all who lived through those exceptional times. Without doubt, he had one of the greatest voices ever heard in popular music.
My sister passed away three years ago was a Japanese big fan of Scott. Thank you for your voice and songs, and I never forget you as well as my sister.
Such a brief summary of Scott Walkers passing. The BBC should have celebrated his life and musical achievements in greater detail. This man was a musical legend. For his many admirers who appreciated his musical abilities and glorious voice this is very sad news. Condolences to his loved ones.
A couple of years back, one of the BBC proms was dedicated to his music. It was good to have such a tribute while he was still around to enjoy it. I agree, though, that another, more expansive tribute would be wonderful to have at this point, coming up on the first anniversary of his passing.
His voice was outstanding far superior to his contemporaries his interpretation of Jacque Brel songs was nothing short of genius. His true fans were loyal to the end, even though it was opposite poles to the voice we loved we respected his wishes to not be a pop singer. ❤ you always Scott.
I have been so influenced by his music since I discovered it in 2013...by accident, so be it. A one-of-a-kind talent that will be dearly missed. R.I.P. Scott.
What a disrespectful memoriam. They make it seem like Scott Walker was a frivolous pop singer that faded from the limelight after the 60's. When in reality, he CHOSE to make way more original, challenging music in the late 60's, 70's, and onward, and it's THAT music, not his early pop stuff, that has made him become one of the most revered musicians of his generation to countless influential artists.
My hero the gorgeous looks the fabulous amazing voice of the great scott walker you are the best no one will ever come close to you a true genius 😇⚘⚘⚘⚘love you scott always will xx
Bit of a misleading obituary. It gives the impression that Scott Walker virtually stopped making music after the 60s. Some acts start off with their own niche, then go mainstream. This happened with Chicago and Leo Sayer, but Scott Walker went in the opposite direction. In fact, he briefly reunited with Gary and John in the mid 70s with No Regrets. By then, he’d already had his own show on the BBC which was for a mainstream audience but in which he included material which was far from mainstream. With those looks, that voice, and his later work, Scott Walker’s career was original, to say the least.
One of the best....life got complicated for him as it does for many ..fame is not all....God bless you..may you now FIND Peace..🙏🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹thank you for your talent🌹🌹
I think he became disillusioned with the whole relentless celebrity/fame charade R.I.P. Scott Walker your music and amazing voice lives on❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Having read the above I am of the firm opinion that its not reflective of the Scott Walker that I recall so well; Scott was and still is a Legend in my book ; his verson of Anymore is just sensational just sensational ; we all develop in our lives, if we indeed do live long enough to ; so developing into other things does not take away the earlier 'things' it all stands the test of time ; RIP Scott remembered for ever and ever
I agree, Scott deserved more respect. I didn't appreciate some of his latest but always admired his courage of individuality and experimental music. I think I found his era of Brel and Legrand my most listened to. "If you go away", " Next" and the unforgettable " Funeral Tango" and that's just the tip of that magnificent voice.
I Thought he was gorgous when he was young and that sexy voice😘💖.As he aged he changed his music and aged .but i will always remember him for the song .The sun aint going to shine anymore.he was a great song writer and always will be remembered for it.rest in peace Scott 🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊🦋🦋🦋🦋🌹🌹🌹🌹💖Amen🦋💐💫
A True Icon & Legend… The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore is literally in my Top 5 Favorites of All time … His Finest Work…. Although I really loved his Solo of Joanna… His voice was Incredible 👏🎶🎵
Well Scott, like it or not most of us boomers will remember from 1966 when you did those 2 hits: The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore and Make It Easy On Yourself. That's just it. Those songs hit me real hard. I did not keep track of anything you did after that! So be it.
That documentary is fantastic (30 Century Man). I knew nothing of Scott Walker before seeing the documentary on cable TV. I looked up his songs on You Tube and there's such a wide range. Plastic Palace People & Montague Terrace in Blue sound like they're from the soundtrack to the greatest 60's film ever. The Jacques Brel covers are so much fun ("Next" is hilarious). And of course, The Electrician is just haunting.
That's a pretty crappy summary of Scott's life. "Scott Walker was incredibly famous in the 60s and then died..." Nothing about the extraordinary career that followed. Scott was a genius. There's nothing else like him.
As a young boy in the 60's, there are certain voices that catch your attention, this guy was one of them, RIP.
Scott Walker was THE GREATEST VOICE. R.I.P. my friend. We can only listen your music and preserve your memory.

AGREE WITH ALL THE REPLIES.

What a voice this man had.
Unique..
One of the greatest. His work will be remembered eternally...
I hope to God we do not ever forget these wonderful singers, Scott, John and not forgetting Gary's support.

A great singer. “The sun ain’t gonna shine anymore “ is my favorite Walker tune. RIP Scott.

Total genius. Much missed. Scott Walker... 🎶🎵

Well put. There should have been a proper tribute for Scott.
A couple of years back, one of the BBC proms was dedicated to his music. It was good to have such a tribute while he was still around to enjoy it. I agree, though, that another, more expansive tribute would be wonderful to have at this point, coming up on the first anniversary of his passing.

The people who work at the BBC nowadays haven't got a clue.
He was a genius. A master. That voice and the spirit to do what he did. Lots of love.xxxx

I have been so influenced by his music since I discovered it in 2013...by accident, so be it. A one-of-a-kind talent that will be dearly missed. R.I.P. Scott.

Totally, mocking one of the finest male vocalists of his era. The BBC is an absolute disgrace!!...
Yes i agree. He was also an artist with probably the most distinctive voices ive ever heard..@@nikolaucznaum4312
What a bummer, I can't believe I missed this when it happened. Scott was a legend.
Sang some of the greatest songs ever,

Scott, so sad to hear of your death. You've been with me all my life. God bless you.
Apart from being a pop icon he evolved into a serious modernist composer.
Mum was one of your biggest fans Scott. Please say hi to her for me.
Mine, too!
Loved his voice his work just magical!
Fantastic voice and great screen presence 👌
Just the best ❤❤❤

Very sad
Noel Scott Engel 1943- 2019
This broadcast makes it sound like the man died in the sixties, like there's no life outside of pop music. Whatever BBC.
Joanna WOW
RIP ‘
亡き妹が好きでした。天国で会えたかな?
When you look at an ‘old’ person, remember they were swinging in the 1960’s! Groovy 😂
Must have been bigger in the UK.... never heard his music
You need to check him out right from the Walker Brothers to Bish Bosh not forgetting his film scores. It's the journey of a genius.
That's a pretty crappy summary of Scott's life. "Scott Walker was incredibly famous in the 60s and then died..." Nothing about the extraordinary career that followed. Scott was a genius. There's nothing else like him.
The voice of a beautiful man who sung as the best in the world
