How can such a musical genius be so humble and understated?
It's frankly remarkable that someone as gifted as Scott Walker comes as across as down to earth and unassuming. It's rare. Most artists are arrogant and narcissistic.
Which makes me love his music all the more.
Scott had one of the most glorious, emotive voices in music. It's such a pleasure to watch this interview and see how modest and sincere he is. He is truly missed.
loved Scott Walker what a voice absolutely stunning seemed such a lovely man , R.I.P. Scott and John ❤❤
i have liked him since the 60s i want the sun ain't gonna shine anymore played at my funeral, its my favourite song and its about lonliness which is what my life has always been.
This man has not yet been recognized for the genius that he was.
So true
Absolutely agree. Rog. Ps records.
Some of us did!
I recognize him.
So True, No Regrets, Always upsets me.
R.I.P. Scott Engel, the most beautiful voice ever...
He had such a beautiful and memorable voice. He was my youth!! Thank you Scott! God Bless.
I fully agreee 10 million per cent !
So talented and a wonderful voice. You will be missed.
Scott is genius, beautiful and I could listen to him speak and sing all day. Such a beautiful voice. I've been in love with him forever. No-one compares.
What an interesting interview. He was so introspective and also modest. A great singer and song writer.
For the past couple of months , as indeed throughout my life, I have watched, read and listened to details that have been published or recorded about this man. What an influence he has been on my life as surely as on many thousands of others. I have appreciated his music over the last 50 years and have always been excited to see how his music has developed. I don’t pretend to understand it....his intellect was far greater than mine . I wouldn’t know if his family and friends even read these comments but if by chance they do I cannot imagine the gap he has left in their lives. So very sad he has gone but what a wonderful legacy he has left for the world.
My goodness....reading this I am so heartened, I have been so alone as a Scott fan here in Tasmania......but I know he was so dearly loved the whole World over....
way too deep for us he was really on his own trip.
I truly believe Scott was quite misunderstood as he was so so sensitive. I was a young extremely sensitive kid and gravitated to his voice without know quite why. Just a feeling of connecting with his sadness I think
I am so surprised by Scott saying he is not a trained singer , having heard that wonderful precise diction of his in so many of his songs, and superb breath control, both in the 60's and more recently
Dostoevsky!
It's god given
A natural singer with his own style and needed no training
I was in the bath last week and was mesmerised by a song called "Cowboy" which was playing on the radio during my soak. It was Scott Walker singing and I have now been introduced to this incredible mans work and find him truly fascinating as well as an incredible artist.
Randy Newman penned, I believe.
I grew up with him in my life thankfully. Still have all his albums I bought as a kid out of my pocket money. I knew talent even at my young age!
Beautiful man beautiful voice ❤️ RIP Scott 💔 Your dedicated fans understood 👏
I agree I agree!
So true. We fans from the start knew he was uniquely special. Above the Top of the Pops genre
My first love, crush. When I was 14. You never forget that.
Always loved Scott but never realised what a nice humble guy he was.
R.I.P scott, was so sad when I heard he had died,he had such a beautiful voice !
Stunning voice and inventive mind. They always leave us too soon
Legend ! Best voice ever ...
He has such a beautifully unique voice.
R.I.P scott..had a distinctive singing voice will be missed.
Walker brothers wow what a voice an the songs would bring tears to my eyes, one of my best bands 💖💖💖👍
Man, I knew Scott was a good singer but I had no idea that he was such a profound artist. He was the quintessential artist who's willing to sacrifice everything for his art. And he was deadly humble as well. You know, there are artists who create art and there are artists who are art themselves. Extremely sad that he wasn't understood by the industry including myself.
I adored him and his voice was awesome
Scott is one of music's most interesting characters. There is no debate. I feel pity for people unacquainted with his music. I knew this internet mularkey would be good for interviews. I'm sorry I took so long to check it out.
Haha I know exactly what you mean about the pity thing. He's one of the few artists that makes me want to be almost evangelical in converting people to see his genius
Unbelievable beautiful voice, love it for ever ❤
THE MAN THE REAL DEAL
Perhaps the greatest male vocalist in the UK.
what a gentleman
RIP, Scott Walker
love Scott!!
He looks, dare I say, youthful
Brilliant singer.
A brilliant performer.
Only a baby in the as sixths but has voice is amazing love walker brother very talented there sing will live own forever just great group
Such a Small Love, Such a Little Tear. Pregnant pools produce a tear. How can any individual write such powerful, emotionally beautifully haunting lyrics as these. We are truly not aware or worthy...!
Jerry Butler was a well know singer in those days. He approached an unheralded composer and requested that he, Burt Bacharach, write some songs for him. Jerry Butler had a big hit with this one. Two years later, the Walkers did a cover, and produced a masterpiece, which became the definitive version. Neither Burt or Dionne could come close.
One of the greatest artists of the late 20th century. What he did in sound and words was similar to what Francis Bacon did in paint.
Favourite singer
A nice guy.
I love understanding people say themselves.... the reality we all must face if we a re to go on..... love the music you sing .. words we all are.. that define us …. music make s us feel.. the words we are.... that make us feel. the notes played...…. we hope define us.....
hey! he was unique, no doubt about it! but wow! so are you!
R I P Beautiful Soul
Velvet tones of Scott.🇦🇺🎼
Intriguing, thank you
Brilliant
He was became British. Bless him

He's right, it is harder than poetry, you are constrained by the demands of musical form, especially if you are writing deliberately towards some idea of 'commercial' consumption-maybe he doesn't do that.
@grimble he did mention that writing lyrics is difficult in a 'particular way'. I think considering how lyrically dense, imagistic and complex his songwriting is, I can understand that coming from him. The writing for most of his songs on his last few records has all the heft, complexity and ambition of poetry, but needs to be fit for a singing voice. So I can understand why he'd suggest it's even more difficult than writing poetry. Ordinarily however, I'm not sure if that would be true, because in most music the instruments almost compensate for the brevity of the lyrics.
Talented Singer .
So much more tha n just a talented singer.
@@juliankenning Ok , I don't know that much about him
Speaking voice, singing voice... still beautiful.
He actually looks better now than his big-hair days.
well, I knew him, going bald realy bothered him!
@@cirrus1964 hey! how are ya? wow, what the heck happened, does anyone even know? what do you mean, you knew him, you mean, you worked for him? or, he worked for you, perhaps?
Even Bob Dylan had big hair. The Beatles caught attention by their big hair. Don't forget the Stones. And the Who. And Dusty and Diana and Janis. There was a Broadway show written and preformed by two guys, who got rich because they had big "Hair." Scott & Bros had Beatle haircuts, which put them on the team. In this interview he is dressing his age, unlike Paul who still sports a Beatle hair doo.
Good lord. This dear man had his skimpy hair combed forward to hide his baldness! Of course he minded going bald. Everyone does. And he was BEAUTIFUL in the 1960s with all that hair!
@@mt.shasta6097 Oh, certainly. If we combine his good looks in the 1960s with the beauty of his voice, we are astonished. Rarely do those two things come together in a person. Scott was one of the few examples of that I can think of.
Genius
His eyes are blue just not lit in that interview making them look brown. Scott was in his late 60s during the interview and most likely dyes his hair - I'd imagine dyeing grey hair brown is easier than dyeing it blonde!
MorbidsoSorbid : WTH!?!
wow~!
Havent had a cigarette in almost three years ... but needed to bum one from my roommate for this ...
His comment on the distinction between lyrics and poetry is correct, but I don't know if I agree that writing lyrics is harder than writing poetry. With lyrics you can sing them as you write and alter your voice to create rhytmn and melody, whereas the rhytmn of poetry is entirely dependent upon the syllables and stresses; you have to force a music on the reader. Ultimately though, the difficulty depends upon the creator's own experience. I find writings songs much easier than poetry, although I am not as experimental as Mr. Walker.
Some poetry is written to be spoken. An item gains its significance from a performer's interpretation. Hamlet remains a rite of passage for a male interpreter. Think how many performers have gained great success for their interpretations. It can be argued that a lot of rock 'n rollers produced worthwhile poetry, memorable poetry, when lifted off the page. The lure of a composition was the music. The framework was provided by the lyrics. The creators in such an endeavor were the composer and the lyricist. The performer's interpretation of that creation gave it resonance and meaning. Hal and Burt gave birth to this song. The interpretations of Jerry Butler and Dionne Warwick and the Walker Brothers gave distinction to this piece. I submit that these words are among Hal's best poetry.
he and Beck look related
Blake Gildaphish he's Becks uncle
Alexander Nikevich no he's not
Who cares!
Beck is influenced by scott look and style
Beck's sperm donor
They weren’t brothers and they weren’t Walkers😂….brilliant. Too early for their time.
He still looks 30ish
here is a review of Scott walker's more recent career: ua-cam.com/video/o3PzFjxrHy8/v-deo.html
Comes across as tortured for some reason, many musos end this way, unfullfilled work, darkness, .............?
He had to compromise a lot and fight to do the things he wanted in his career. I'd say he had a lot of regrets and "what-ifs". Sadly a lot of lost potential because he didn't have the commercial support for what he wanted to do for a long time.
Help me out. He mentions two writers. the second one is Knut Hamsum. what is the first - Dostoevskiy?
Максим Греховодов dostojevski, that’s the name he mentions
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fyodor_Dostoevsky
Do you think hes had "treatments"?
yeah..lol sorry as i do LOVE the walker bros. x
No, I doubt it. He doesn't seem to care about such things. He's the real deal.
Kerrygrl 54 i think your right! ;-)
+
Is he married?
He was married with a daughter.
dude is the epitome of "much ado about nothing"
Rae Coltes : Little do you know! Alot of talent in that man. You have no idea.
@@chriswitmer7001 this mofo is a musical amateur, proof is in the output. i know hipsters love to claim these fringe types as great but the evidence is ALL to the contrary.
Rae Coltes: Then move on! Like you're some musical prodigy, yea right. You don't know anything about The Walker Brothers. He's dead so STFU!
@@ragezen1706 haha! he turned pro , in like 1963 or before! he never quit, he just did things his way... he was a maverick! he was no amateur! he did exceedingly well , he was just not tryin' to impress the wrong people , he'd done enough of that by like 1965, i bet... he looked like a lonely guy, because i slightly doubt anyone understood him! i tried, and i respected his work, still admire it, check it! yeah, he had a lotta work, that he could actually show people, there was no debate, he was big-league respected, but little - understood..he allowed people their opinions, he would have laughed at you, i like to think! i did!
he would definitely have laughed at your comments, too, haha!
I want to slap him why do these musicians go off the cliff? loved him smart guy. Drugs? too intellectual? I think he overthunk it.
Fuck off loser he was expressing his true self
So many great artists go off the rails. Strangely, it has to do with being a true genius. Some are just too sensitive or vulnerable. Look at the Don McLean song for Vincent van Gogh. Too beautiful for this world.
