Writing this for the benefit of anyone thinking of doing WGU at an advanced pace. This week I'll be finishing my BS in Supply Chain and Ops Management. I transferred in a general business AA that covered by general ed and basic business classes, so it was half way done, but I did the second half in 7 weeks.
Strategy:
Objective assessments: take the pre-assessment, then learn what every single term means in that pre assessment. The key terms are constant, but questions aren't. One issue you may hit like I did is that sometimes the key terms covered on the pre assessment are different than the objective assessment. However, if you came in solid enough you'll still pass. If you absolutely bomb certain categories of the pre assessment, go into the course material and take unit and section quizzes to learn the info and key terms. Never assume you weak category will be covered by your strong ones.
Performance assessments: Just like the dude says, just break down the rubric. Cover every section completely, even if it seems blocky and silly sometimes. Personally, I'm good at papers, but there are also powerpoint and excel assessments. For each, it will still ask for in depth explanations of things, so I always wrote a paper and copied and pasted relevant sections into presenter notes.
Time: I work as a CDL yard driver, so I had some downtime and would do my pre assessments, studying key terms, and performance assessments at work. The I'd schedule the post assessments the next day.
FYI: If your goal is to achieve a massive depth of knowledge from scratch, WGU is not for you. If you want to promote in a field that you already have knowledge but not a degree in, WGU is for you. Personally, I found that I knew a lot of the material, but not all of it. In my case though, my best choice was to finish and promote quickly, but I will be going back and ordering books to deepen my knowledge of topics I scraped by in.
Thanks for sharing this great information with the community!
Passing is 70 percent at wgu
Hello, I subscribed to your channel hope you keep making videos. I start the IT management in May.
Thank you! Best of luck in your WGU journey!
@@kevinrbarry thank you
In your experience, how often would these exams you took be proctored? Was it the midterm, final, both? Was it every class or just some classes? Just curious.
Hi Kevin, What did you do to get fast toward the end? What are your tips on doing that?
Thanks Kevin, appreciate it.
No problem!
Do you have to take classes in order they give you or can you pick what classes to do? Also if you dont pass all sections on the OS do you retake the whole thing or just the sections you missed?
Hello, great content video. By any chance do you know an online program similar for supply chain management? Thanks
Who else taking proctored exams at WGU with the Tech Viking and Kevin Barry in 2022!
When you went through each of the course did u take notes or just went through course book and Pretest then Object retest
I took notes for the first few classes, but then I noticed I didn’t need them and they were kinda just slowing me down, so I ended up just reading through the course material and then moving on to the assessments.
WGU is not getting a stellar reputation with all these fast degree videos.
great video
Great comment. Thank you.
Did you have to write papers or only test taking?
How I wish my country had anything similar to this OR that WGU accepted people from other countries. Feels like we are really living in the past
Same problem here man
SNHU, UMPI accept international students, I am
If you want to go to another another school for your master or something would they take that degree?
Depends on the program/major. For example, WGU's BSCS is accepted by UT Austin, Georgia Tech, and many Top 10 CS schools. That being said I have no clue if WGU's business degrees hold as much prestige for business schools.
Yes, they would. I explain a bit more in depth in my latest video ua-cam.com/video/NmW0OXU3Ytc/v-deo.html
Have you been able to get a good job with the certificate?? And is the certificate recognized by big companies
I just made a video where I talk about what getting a job with a WGU degree was like and what the perception of a WGU degree has been in my experience. ua-cam.com/video/NmW0OXU3Ytc/v-deo.html
How much was it ?
How many questions in tge exam?
How does WGU classes prepare you for exam ?
Is WGU competent in their teaching? Do the students feel competent enough to write exam based on the WGU teaching preparation?
Does tuition fees cover the textbooks or must students pay for texbook differently?
Do the professors give you a kind of site for practicing test before the main exam / test?
Do you think the practicing test is a little bit similar to what you see in the main test or do the professors teach you different and set nonsense that is not close to what you see in the main test ?
open book?
With getting a degree in such a short amount of time, how much of it did you learn/ retain?
Yes
Some people don’t retain they just try to go by super fast. Forget what they learned. But obviously there’s others who do retain but I think maybe because they have a few credits left or they already have a background of what they’re learning. And it’s just reevaluating it again.
You learn on the job
