One technical detail why Cynthia and Ariana sound so good together - _they are matching their vibrato frequency_ when they hold notes together which some singers cannot do. There is slow vibrato and fast vibrato , but really good singers can control and vary the spin/speed of it - in most cases optimally landing the pulse on 16th note beats with the tempo of the music. In a choir different vibrato frequencies blend together if they're not singing straight tone, but synced vibrato in a duet is incredible and means they're really listening to each other and feeling the music together and have rehearsed and agreed when they're using straight tone or vibrato to complement each other.
Even though she hasn't sung on Broadway in a long time Ariana did do Hairspray Live! But of course Penny Pingleton is very different vocally than Glinda. It's funny you mention wanting to applaud because when I saw the film version of Chicago that audience was totally in sync and collectively giving applause after every single musical number. It was like seeing it live. I've never experienced that in a movie theater before or since!
@@TheTheaterMaven It was a very cool experience! I actually prefer Hairspray Live to the movie version. Glad I snagged a DVD back when it was released, although you can find clips out here.😊

Love this review!! Saw Jonathan Bailey in the company revival and he was so good at not getting married today 😂
yayyyyy
I went to an AMC *and* a Regal theater (nicest theater in a large city)...both felt like the audio was lowwww
I wonder why the audio was so low across different theaters
