    I have such fond memories of my very first Hornby GWR Pannier that my grandad bought for me when i was a kid back in the UK in the mid-70s. I ran it into the ground. And despite adding many, many locos over time, none of them ever came close to making me smile as much seeing it trundle past on my layout.
    Happy days.
    Thanks For sharing Simon!

    Nice review of a great model. Love the 57xx of which I have a couple of Bachmann OO versions! Most impressed with how N Gauge models have improved over the years and enjoy watching them on your channel!

    Wow Dapol's done a really good job there. If you didn't tell us it was N gauge and zoomed in far enough then I'd have said that was 00. Really good system for the DCC chip in the cab too. Great review!

    Excellent loco and review Simon! The GR pannier tank is the one west coast loco that I really like and have a soft spot for and it looks like Dapol have done an excellent job on it. The fine detail like the grills on the rear windows is excellent and seems like a nice runner as well. Well done on getting a repro of an actual loco from the Severn Valley railway :) - Sim

    I always enjoy watching your videos. I've bought the same Pannier from Dapol, but mine hasn't quieted down, even after three hours of running in. Understandably, I'm quite disappointed, for this is not the first Dapol engine that I'm having trouble with. :(

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  9 років тому

      +westhighlandline.com Thats disappointing, you've probably already tried but maybe a tiny drop of oil would help? Its strange there is such a variation in running even between locos of the same model. My Pannier was OK until last week, I think the gear inside jammed and this caused the DCC chip to overload and blow so I'm not too happy with mine at the moment!

    • @TheSlipCoach
      @TheSlipCoach 9 років тому

      Simons Shed Yes, I've tried lubricating the rods and the gears - no improvement whatsoever. It seems that there is a flaw within the motor itself. I've mailed Dapol but haven't received an answer yet - as ever so often, unfortunately. Sorry to hear about your "loss". You should file a complaint, too. I'll back you.

    Hi Simon I got one about 9 months ago with the BR early crest. Been running well but now needs a service, it no help having cats one of which likes to sleep on the layout, so I have to clean the pickups often to get rid of the cat fur.
    I chipped mine with a Gaugemaster chip. Don't use a Bachmann chip as they are a bit to big, this to anyone else thinking of buying a 5700.
    Mike

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  10 років тому

      Reefy1952 Good advice about the chip, even if it did fit I try to avoid the Bachman one. It is cheaper but I struggle to get slow enough running speeds with it.
      Thankfully my cat sleeps under the layout rather than on it!

    A lenz decode wont fit in mine but if I where to de solder the circuit board that the 6 pin chip goes into do you know if it would then work if i soldered in the lens silver mini with wires?

    I just bought one and installed a digitrax decoder and when I put it on my track, it hums. No movement. Any clue on what that may be? I have other European engines on my layout with no issues.

    Hi Simon, looks like a lovely little motor with good detailing. The video makes the n gauge couplers look really chunky though - I wish they had thought of more realistic ones as standard in the first place. Why are there no user manuals I wonder?

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  10 років тому

      Richard Tarr Yes the couplers do look huge on little tank engines in N, you have to kind of mentally block them out! I wish they did come with manuals, I think they assume everyone is a world expert on how they work, where the detailing bits go etc.

    Are the bodies of n gauge loco's metal or plastic ? It looks like on most loco's they are metal , where as OO gauge looks like cheap plastic

      I've read that that gets much better after a long running in (2-3 hours). On most Dapols that is enough time to get them to quiet down. Hope yours has.

    Haha! Now I can put my plan into action!
    My plan is to make n scale thomas characters. So I looked up the ho scale rws customs to see what models their made with. I then watched the n scale thomas and percy review and had an idea to look for a pannier tank engine in n scale. Now I can finally set up a plan!

    Here's a class 08 shunter for sale here in the US but ships to the UK www.ebay.com/itm/GRAHAM-FARISH-N-GAUGE-1005-08-CLASS-DIESEL-LOCO-D4019-BR-GREEN-5-POLE-MOTOR-/111450655855?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19f2fa0c6f I don't know if it's the color you want, but it's a fairly good price right now considering US dollars is worth less than pounds.

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  10 років тому

      Andrew Camenga Its a good price but it says it won't ship to the UK. I think the SVR have a green one with wasp stripes but need to check. You have to be careful with the Farish 08, I think that is the old model (I sure I heard that some of the dimensions are wrong on it), and there is a new one which has much better detailing / more accurate dimensions.

    • @ajc2050
      @ajc2050 10 років тому

      Yeah I bought one for about $58 and I'm having problems with it. I'll probably end up looking for a new one. The side rods don't even line up on either side of the wheels and one side rod was bent. I'm broke right now, but I think I'm going to try to buy new from now on lol
