Great video - more like this please! As someone who only got into the Japanese scene in 2021, I'm still catching up on the history. I knew most of these but not Tetsuo Sakurai, who sounded fantastic, and I'll definitely be following up on Casiopea. Btw my favourite 20th Century Japanese band so far is Novela. Their album "La Songerie" is one of the best 70s prog albums in my view (edit: it was actually released in 1980). It's more about the songwriting than any one stand-out musician though.
Tetsuo Sakurai is an amazing bassist, I listened a lot to Casiopea in the 80's (Mint Jams is my favorite album from them and yeah I'm old). Hotei I actually haven't got into, before he did a collab with Aina the End (BiSH) when they did the song Andromeda together, after that I've been listening more and more to his music. There are so many great musicians from Japan, the west need to open up more!
Have seen them all live at least once (Hotei exactly once)-well I do live in Japan. Will see Tetsuo Sakurai tomorrow (July 20) at the Tokyo Jazz Fusion Summit. He has performed several times with the great drummer Senri Kawaguchi, and her band The Jazz Avengers will also appear tomorrow. Miyavi and Sugizo were in the super-unit The Last Rockstars (whom Band-Maid opened for), but first saw them with S.K.I.N when I lived in Los Angeles.

Thank you for this.
Don't know the first three cats, but Miyavi & Sugizo? Awww yiiiissss!
みんな凄いということはわかるが、バンドメイドやビートルズのような、いい曲、何度でも聞きたくなるような名曲が生み出せてない、パフォーマンスが目立ち過ぎる。確かにすごいよだから何?みたいな感じ。

However, you forgot Shiina Ringo, that’s who the legend is in terms of influence
