You’re the man! This project has been nagging me for two years. Finally got on top of it today and did a similar rebuild following your video. Much appreciated 🙏
I am a noob. I will never likely need to REPAIR a whisker pole, but I will likely use one (especially since I own one). You outstanding video, however, helps me understand HOW the darn thing works. Seeing it taken apart and repaired. is invaluable. By-the-by, your technique for filming was outstanding, thank you.
Andy, I'm needing to replace my control line and have been scratching my head over how difficult this would be and how much line I'll need, etc. Your video is just what I needed, Excellent, Thanks! Central Texas Sailor...
Thank you for such a great video. I'm new to sailing and I need to replace the control line in my whisker pole but I wasn't really sure of the mechanics. Also, I would have never thought of shortening the pole and the red warning stripe is a great idea.
Great video, thank you! Planning a tune up this winter and wonder if one could substitute carbon fiber tubing for the two internal components? Do you recall length and outer dimensions of the strut and innermost components?
Greetings, thanks for posting. Please accept a few suggestions. 1. the uv damaged sheave (white pulley) should have been replaced. 2. always coat stainless treads going into aluminum with Tef-Gel. 3. the anodized aluminum tube cuts could have been sealed with a metal spray paint. 4. the line that was used is too large of diameter for this application.
Although you didn't show it, it looks like you shortened the small inner tube by the same amount that you shortened the corroded 2.5" tube. Is that correct?
Great video !! Very helpful. We buckled the smaller diameter end in our last race. Based on your video we will attempt to replace it. Are you in Buffalo, NY ? I used to live there. That breakwater and light house looked familiar. We are in Thailand now. Much "warmer" (aka hot) and the water is more salty.
Thanks for the great video. I am building my own pole. I have a doubt. How do you prevent the pole from pulling out more than you want? And how do you pull it back in? I was planning on a second control line, antagonist to the first one. Does it make sense?
Hello, I cannot get my telescoping pole to shorten. The smaller tube won't slide into the larger any further. Do you have any suggestions for me? I thought about taking it entirely apart and lubing the ends up but I am afraid I will only make it worse. Others have suggested a heat gun. Thanks in advance for any tips.
nice rebuild...maybe I skipped part where you apply anticorrosion between all dissimilar metals (for this probobly lanacote is fine)...so you won't have to redo the project after a few seasons sailing
I have an old fore spar telescoping pole but it doesn’t have an internal control line. It’s just two poles with some sort of twisting mechanism like a telescoping boat hook. I got it apart but trying to figure how to reassemble. My plan is to but two new end fittings on from another pole I have but I have to figure out the internal mechanism.
Sounds like you have a twist-lock pole. We use one of those on our smaller boat. When that mechanism works properly, the speed of adjusting the pole's length is unmatched. Spare parts may be available from Forespar. Good luck!

Awesome! It's great to receive this feedback. It's exactly what we had hoped for. Good luck with your project!
Very good and I wish you were here!
thanks for the pole info i just got one and need to rebuild it, it isn’t corroded stuck just needs internal disengaging
I was able to successfully repair my whisker pole. Thank you so much.
Great video, THANKS!! Guess what I'm doing tomorrow 🙂
Thank you perfect timing, just brought the pole home to replace the control line and clean it up a bit.
Thanks! Very helpful for replacing control line.
perfect for understanding how they work mechanically
Thank you I'm going to rebuild a Spinnaker pole this winter and your video will help me a lot thanks again

Glad to hear the video was useful. Good luck getting yours back in shape!
Exactly what I needed. Thanks a lot.
Thank you, that was very helpful.

This is brilliant. I have exactly that pole and need to replace the inner tube and lines.
Good job - I definitely underestimated the scope of this project (what else is new) :)

wow, what a well made video!
What size revivits did you use?

What a great video - do you think its possible to convert a push button whisker pole to a line control pole?
I've a button pole and need to replace one end. I'd doubt a control line can be added, but happy to be wrong.

Thanks - and yes, that's a good thing to keep in mind. I used Tef-gel for all threaded connections between dissimilar metals.
