  • Using the famous Miele "hook tool" to free up the circulation pump impeller. If you don't use your dishwasher very often the circulation pump can get stuck and not rotate. $15 instead of $500 replacement circulation pump. Fixed mine. Good luck with yours

    Just fixed my dishwasher using this video and the comments below. Just removed two centre prongs from a four prong fork and followed the procedure in the video. Worked a treat :)

    Thanks for the info, straight to the point, I made my own tool and indeed the pump was frozen after not using machine for a week.

    Thanks so much for this! Whilst I didn't need to buy the tool (an alternative 'tool' managed to perform the same function), your video helped me diagnose & fix the same 'stuck impeller' problem with my friend's Miele dishwasher... 30 minutes before the Miele engineer was due to arrive, which we duly cancelled! Sincerely appreciate your handy tip, thank you!

    Came back from vacation...and the diswasher was not eager to function. Got it going with this video and an adapted fork. Thank you.

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. We have the exact same dishwasher, and I know I wouldn't have figured it out by myself. Big problem, easy fix. Thanks again.

    Thanks for your video. More important than the hook tool was knowing where the intake slot was - I ended up bending a hanger and using the hook to jiggle the impeller free. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

    Thank you so much. Tried to use a fork without the middle tines and that worked as well

    Greate!!!
    Problem resolved even without the hook provided by Miele.
    If you pull out the wash machine and access the propeller of that pomp on the left side. But before, you have to pull out the rubber pipe to have access at the propeller pomp and try to move it with a long screwdriver.
    Good luck...

    THANK YOU!!!! I saw on another video that you can make a hook tool by removing the middle tines from a fork. Tried that - using the technique you illustrated to unclog the pump and it worked!! Hooray - no need to call the repair guy.

      Hi, Monica! Fancy meeting YOU here! I am attempting this, too, but I don't want to mess up any of my nice stainless forks. I brought in my giant metal cutters to remove the middle tines from a cheap three-tonged cooking fork, but it was too cheap and the metal bent. Also the tines couldn't be cut cleanly away from the base of the fork with the metal cutters, so I had to try to bend the tines upward and cut as close to the tine base of the fork as I could. The metal cutters are so huge and so thick that it was impossible to get a clean cut so that the tines were flush with the rest of the fork. What did you use to remove those tines? I am ready to send away for the tool -- whatever it costs. It is bound to be more convenient to have it here (in case this happens again) than it would be to call a repair person and wait all afternoon or all day for them to come out. Wait... I just read below where Jack says he used pliers to remove the middle tines of a fork. He must have bent them forward and back a lot until the metal heated enough to cause it to bend and break. He didn't explain much. Says he flattened the fork with a hammer and then knocked out the tines with pliers. I don't even know if my nice stainless forks would flatten with a hammer. They are solid and strong. I do have a huge metal sledgehammer that probably would flatten one of them if I took them into the street and pounded. But alas, it is raining here and there was a mudslide outside the house and I can't do that right now. The mud is about a foot deep and it is all over the place . . . can't walk around out there without calf-high après ski boots. I have removed as much water as possible from that hole there, but there's still some in the bottom mixed with residue and run-off from the dirty dishes and it smells vile. I am pretty good at repairs if I'm strong enough to do them, which, in this case is debatable. Maybe I can go buy some cheap forks at CVS or Ralph's -- and try again. I'm hoping those forks will be strong enough to accomplish this. Once I got the tines out of that cheap cooking fork I did manage to get it stuck down into the hole, but I wasn't able to move the gear of that impeller. I think that was because the metal was more inclined to bend than to push the impeller gear one way or the other. It's 10 p.m. I'm going to CVS. Will let you know the result if I can find a cheap fork that is sturdy enough to move the gear. You and I need to get together, but not until these rains stop and the mud flows stop! XOXO

      Here is my update so far. Went to CVS but it closed at 10. I got there at 10:05. Went to Ralph's and got a bunch of food, but they were remodeling and didn't have their normal kitchen supplies. Went back home and managed to find a very old fork my parents had bought just after the war. (WWII). Supposedly it was stainless steel, but it was greyer and duller and didn't look like today's stainless. I had kept it and a knife and spoon as a reminder of the flimsy silverware we used for everyday when I was a kid. The regular fork was about the size of today's dessert fork and smaller than a salad fork. I managed to flatten it with a sledgehammer, but getting the two middle tines removed proved a harder ordeal. The tines were long and very pointy and sharp, even. I tried for the longest time with a set of pliers, but could never bend them enough one way or the other to weaken the metal. So I bent them both up and tried the metal cutter, one by one on the tines. This worked, but didn't get them short enough, but it didn't matter because they were so long to begin with. I just flattened them again with the sledgehammer and this seemed to look enough like the online photos on this site, (this video and others, also), so I tried using that. The problem is that on the left there seem to be obstructions fairly close to the insertion point. I have no idea what those are and I tried pushing them to the right, but they wouldn't push. On the right side the fork went in much deeper, so I tried moving the fork to the left, as though to push a gear that way, so that I could then push it to the right to loosen it up. But there seemed to be nothing for the fork to grab so that I could, in fact, latch onto something (what? a gear?) and push it to the right. Aside from the obstructions on the left, there was nothing to push to the right. This dishwasher was probably installed in 2005 or so. I also tried to use a large screwdriver and a small chisel to just get in there and push something (people commenting on this video said they tried other tools, such as a coathanger, and that their other homemade tools worked for them.) This dishwasher has run beautifully and quietly and it is a great machine. I love the silverware tray up top. The washer is still white, white, white and didn't yellow with age. I don't want to get another one. It's scary to think that a new intake/drain gadget might cost $500. Another hidden expense. So, Monica, I might be calling you tomorrow to see if you can offer any more tips. It sounded so simple in your comment. It is midnight now and I'm worn out -- it takes muscles to push things that don't want to budge. And those metal cutters require strength to operate, and the pliers were the most difficult of all with those thin, but strong, mix of metals in the War-version of stainless steel.Plus, I think I broke a nail in that putrid water. Yeeeccch! Hope the finger doesn't get infected.

    So many thanks for uploading this video. I had the same problem today with my Miele dishwasher and managed to modify a fork as a tool.
    Flatten the fork in a vice,
    Remove the middle tines by waggling them with pliers,
    Bend the handle so it's short enough and to give purchase to turn.
    WORKED A TREAT!!!
    Thanks again.

    We've had to fix our Miele dishwasher 3 times in 2 years for this exact same reason. It took many long calls with Miele before they finally agreed to send us a hook tool. They usually insisted on sending their technician for $200/visit or told us to go buy our own wrench. Miele dishwashers only work if you use them every other day so the water in the bottom doesn't dry up (this is NOT in the manual). We've never had this problem with any other brand of dishwasher. We'll never buy another Miele.

    thanks! Great Video! it also worked for me. I had the idea to modify a DESSERT fork ( the same size of the Tea Spoon) flattened with a hammer, Knocked out the 2 middle times with a plier and shortened the remaining 2 to look approx. like the Miele tool. After the repair I though I had an idea to share . I then read the bottom comments and noticed that someone preceded me 9 months ago. Anyways I Thought it might be good to re-post or refresh the idea for the others.. so they don't have to read thru all the comments.

    A large serving fork with just two tines about 3/4 to an inch apart - used gently - will do the job. Avoids waiting for the repairman with a load of dirty dishes.

    This problem is NOT just because you don't use your dishwasher every day; we do and we don't ever go on vacation. We bought our original Miele dishwasher 6 years ago. Two years later, after paying a repair person who couldn't repair it, we bought another (over $2,000 each). The second one just passed its warranty period and same problem. Miele suggests the same solution! If they find out they can soak you, they do. Miele diswashers, like so many products are a scam. Ours has a carpenter-custom cherry wood front panel, so we cannot even switch brands!

    In answer to deathly hallow
    I have found shorting DW can have either water in the base of the machine saturating water level switch in sump tank, caused by a leaking circulation pump or drain pump, loose water jacket flange or loose flange on upper spray arm, occasionally the over fill pressure switch are known to leak causing a short, disconnect earth whilst checking with a meter to check.

    This in fact is customer dissatisfaction caused by something being built too well. Miele's primary fault was no built in solution. They have made a change to newer models by delivering higher amperage during pump startup to solve it. Changing the seal will only let water on your nice expensive floor if it ever failed and ruin their 20 year life expectancy!

    Does anyone know how to do the same for Miele G 2670 SCVI model ?

  • @s..t..e..v..e..
    @s..t..e..v..e.. 6 років тому

    Hi, I seemed to have this issue develop in my Miele G 646 SC PLUS this week, the water was sitting at the bottom. However, before I was able to get the fork tool I came home to find my dishwasher completely 'dead' and an odd smell (I think electrical burning, but may be from the machine itself?). I'd left it on a cycle and been out. Coming home I found it had no power. The breaker switch on my consumer unit had tripped and the fuse in the power extension bar's plug (meant to be a surge protector) had blown. Sorting the fuse issue, the unit still will not power on at all, no lights. Any thoughts on what's happened, could it have overheated and tripped something as it couldn't drain? Any pointers for what's likely to be wrong in the machine or whether it's time for a replacement? Thanks in advance.

  • @runandgun762

    I have a Miele 651 that is constantly in drain mode and it's not allowing the unit to fill up with water. Could the circulation pump be the issue?

    • @TheMechas56
      @TheMechas56 9 років тому +1

      There is water on the bottom of unit,it could be a leak or you using too much soap,, unplug unit and remove the toe kick on the front bottom which is held by 2 screws and wipe all water out,plug it back and test it and see what happens,good luck.
