  • In some of the takes one can see the old queen. I thought it was a Bombus magnus but many of the young queens are typical for Bombus terrestris.

Adorable indeed. At least they’re not yellow jackets or bald faced hornets

That is awesome video, do you know I have seen Bombus Terrestris Drones mating with a Bombus Magnus Queen. In the wild some times they naturally cross. I have seen several worker bees that look in between the two types for a number of years.

How is it possible, that an old oven in my yard, whitch was infested/occupied with mice, turned into a bumlebee hive?

Bumble bees evolutionarily lost the ability to make their own nests, so they search for existing nests abandoned by other animals to take over. Mouse nests are a favourite for them. That would be why they love the old mouse infestation site. It would seem like a big housing site to them! :D

    Very cool video!
Did you buy these guys or attract them? Any tips on how to build such a setup? I’ve been saving mouse nest material in the hopes of building a bumblebee home for a queen this spring. (I’ve read most boxes are never occupied)

I am broadly following Von Hagen's instructions in his book Hummeln. My experience is that the bumblebee hives are found quite easily by the queens in the spring.

Only at end of nest period when new queens are born.
