First, thanks for the informative video. 2nd. At the beginning of the season, the fertile-solitary Queen hatches and goes out to find a site AND materials for he nest (she will be foraging). When you examine her, IF she has LOTS of pollen, she may already have a nest (let he go). If she doesn't a lot of pollen she may not have started her colony and she is a keeper. Hope this helps. BTW keep the pollen-syrup balls in the fridge & replace frequently
Great tutorial but I'm little bit concerned. Queen bumbles here are looking for a new home when nothing is in flower,...looks like your bees/queen in video is from later in the season with abundant flower source,..thus, some bumbles are new bees? How do you know that the queen bumble you've taken prison is not already heaving a nest with offspring somewhere else?
Awesome Tutorial very easy to understand and watch. One question when you captured your queen, how can you tell if she has mated or not, is there a way of knowing if she's mated ? very curious again thank you for creating and sharing this video.
Every young queen is mated when leaving her mother's nest in fall. Dozens of bumblebee males are waiting at the opening. So every queen you catch in spring should be already mated.
At first, I want to thank you mam for that informative vedio. I belong to Kashmir has hard zone 9 we have native bumble bee looks like that but has different colour my question is what is the season that in which I have to catch her.
She would only make drone, and queens usually only go out of the hive for mating flights, they don't forage like worker bees. So the possibility of finding a queen in flowers is unlikely.

Jimmys Jamin if she has pollen on her back or around her legs she probably already has a colony so let her go
