Awesome battle in an epic film with incredible performances. Richard Harris and Alec Guinness especially deserve acclaim. It’s also funny that an Irishman is playing Cromwell. It’s a hell of a movie but I don’t think I could ever follow someone Puritan enough to literally cancel Christmas 🎄
Fun historical trivia: prince Rupert was so fond of his dog that he’d indeed take it into battle and had it so well trained that at a word from him it would stand on two legs, dance, or even pee on someone.
I'm really appreciating these old movies where they actually hired hundreds of extras to form the armies. You really get a sense of the scale of it all when you see real people arrayed like that, as opposed to hundreds of generic CGI soldiers.
You might want to actually look at history from these periods before making statements like that. These are dramatizations from a time period movies tend to glorify like they were the golden days.
Always found the part where the pikemen drop their pikes like they were red hot hilarious. Hardly surprising really as the 60s Spanish Army weren't trained in pike drill! Even the Sealed Knot and ECWS elevate their pikes to almost the vertical to avoid injuring the opposition. A push-of-pike would be deadly work IRL I'd wager.....
The real life battle would be much slower because pike and shot formation moves very slowly under heavy fire from artillery and muskets. The charge doesn't happen often so pikemen fight via long spears while some brave blokes duck under and stab them from below. It's a simplification of the battle for the viewers to understand
@@bumpermanthesecond615 O.k , understand , that this is just another Hollywood show , but always been curious, if in real life both sides were so military uneducated and stupid ?
What happened in the movie industry since those days? I mean, so many real men, beasts fill the battlefield, and wide camera angles. And the impact, force, and falls seem so real. Were they trained better stuntmen? even horses fall on many of those movies realistically.... How did they pulled it off?
lax safety regulations (you'd probably be shocked by the amount of injuries here that would be avoided in modern days). Also the cost of paying each individual extra is much higher nowadays unless you're filming in developing nations due to minimum wages and unions enforcing them on set. Plus there's much less room for error with modern computer technology. This is all coming from a guy whose favourite historical film remains waterloo, but the conditions for those movies have passed`
Cavaliers vs Roundheads
4:05 damn he really sent him flying lol.

Damn. Imagine dying in a battle and the last thing you see is a dog peeing on you while the prince laughs manically.
@@darthpalpalzang7914 Yes, that would indeed suck very much.
Damn underated lol
That civil war must have been hard times. But that Gordon Ramsay fight was harder
Gordon Ramsay allways did speak his own mind..
@@allanchurm Glad some one told him to F off the arrogant git
This one is a classic 🙌

Days when nobody heard anything about CGI ⚔💪
What a great battle!
Gordon Ramsey at the end....just to confirm, he was not a participant in the English Civil War.
Ah yes, the cannons that stays still
Looks great, which classic movie I don't know about is this ?
Cromwell.

What battle of the English Civil War was this one?

They've had their Weetabix!
Wonderful how solid iron cannon-balls explode like modern shells! Still, all done for film-effect!
We had common sense and principles in those days....now all we have are sheeple.

I consider Oliver Cromwell as precursor of the Glorious Revolution
No strategy , no tactics , no reserves hold , just a brutal primitive brawl on both sides. Was so in reality , or just in this movie ?

Stick close to the cameramen and you won’t get killed in this battle.
Cromwell
No sé enfrentan en cuadros,si no en líneas,me imagino que no sabría mucho de tácticas militares de antaño
O los ingleses eran torpes

Which army is which?
The people in red are with the king and monarchy.
The people wearing yellow and blue are with parliament
@@isaacmason3939 Thanks man 👍
Seria hermoso que pongan el nombre de la película en los comentarios
lo pone al principio del vídeo
Who are the good guys?
Well, depends on who you ask. Let's not start another civil war though lol
If it helps, the parliamentarians were the ones that won the war.
Obi wan Kenobi?
Witch 1 is the king army
The army with the Red Coats
The Parliamentarians beating the Cavaliers.
Oliver Cromwell - considered by many to be the Greatest Englishman ever, shame he is played by an Irishman in this film.
Bruh

Away with this popish idolatry!
Lol! My favorite scene is when King Charles I rips Prince Rupert a new one for losing Bristol. He goes so crazy his Scottish accent slips.
Was this a comedy?
The movie?
Drama and adventure.
