One of my all time favorite fps. The difficulty can indeed be all over the place with normal enemies mostly until you encounter those deadly sharpshooting babes in the church or that paratrooper which snipes you from a kilometer distance. I also disliked the stealth level where you had to sneak into a truck without raising the alarm. Despite these issues I liked it and have played it many times on PC. The mp was also very good until most players transferred to Enemy Territory since that game was free. You could play on private servers with map jukeboxes and a Christmas theme around this time of the year. Unfortunately ET died out too and now we are stuck with COD.
There’s a mod called RealRTCW that adds enhanced weapons, graphics, and several game tweaks that you could take a look at in the future. Dunno about additional missions though. Great analytic and honest review as always, GP!
@@Gamingpastime64 I just used the iortcw1.5 source port on Linux Mint 17.3 64bit (my fave Linux OS), and it runs great! I agree, I really REALLY wish someone would port over the Egypt prequel missions to PC.. really really badly. Someone modding in the X Shepards into the game would be cool too.
Lets hope that Machine Games will release a remaster in near future... I enjoyed Old Blood, it is a solid re-imagining of first two sets of missions from RTCW
Yeah i agree it's kinda weird we don't have the extra levels and enemies modded into the PC version yet I would like the upgrade and item system modded in as well Weapons are not a problem tho they can be easily modded in.
yeah, it's a pity series did comeback into modern technology with grace (NO and OB) then did nosedive all the way down with bad stuff like open world and else
I absolutely love this game. Played Operation Resurrection first and my mind was blown when I found out there was an Xbox port that had co-op storymode, multiplayer, and that one of those multiplayer maps was a beach assault. There is a way to turn off the auto center for Operation Resurrection. Go to options and select controls, press circle to options and switch 'Auto center view' off. Do this during the paused menu and not from the title menu or else it won't save your configuration.
They did relax the accuracy on consoles a lot for obvious reasons, but I do hate those cheep sniper enemies that are placed on few places in game that you either know that they are there, or you die.
Man the stealth sections were near impossible in coop. At least for me and my friends. always got stuck at that one where you are sneaking in and alarm is auto fail.
I presume you are referring to Forest level? Yea that one was utter shit, mostly cos range of sight of enemies is very freaking real, so they spot you from miles off. You actually have to scope and see when they have their backs turned to sneak, which is fairly frustrating cos they are very slow. And then there are bugs with AI that put that last soldier in high alert and there is no way to sneak into the truck without getting spotted. The second stealth mission (Village2) was way more manageable.
Great review! RTCW was the 3rd single player FPS game i ever played. First was wolfenstein 3d, then quake 2 and then this game. Fuck i loved it despite some of the pesky enemies. Quick saves helped a lot in those cases. Loved the weapons too, especially the venom gun! I wud say and i know most hardcore FPS fans wud agree with me that this version of the minigun in this game is best sounding and feeling minigun ever! Satisfying as the word i wud use. To sum up: awesome shooter this one.
I have a yearly tradition to play RTCW during winter time, been doing it for last 12 years... I know every secret and loot in the game from top of my head. As for PS2/Xbox versions having more features and extra missions, since it was published by Activision I think legal team would be very trigger happy if someone released a mod with those features. What I am hoping for is - you know how New Order and Old Blood have Wold3D missions as extra? I kinda hope they will redo whole RTCW (Old Blood does not count) in a better engine/graphic with all the feature either as DLC, preorder bonus, feature in game, or like a bundle where RTCW Remastered costs like 10USD (kinda like American McGee Alice). Last note - holy crap a review (almost 2020) of a game from 2001? FFS I feel old... No, actually now I am old.
Dude.. you CAN disable look spring, you've even been in the correct screen in your video! Go to controls and then press circle, you have advanced config there.
8:01 ! EXPLOIT ! Shoot the Super Soldier Boss with bazooka then run and crounch down(for better accuracy) in front of the Uber Soldat (2nd boss) and blast it with full power of the venom gun. point blank range. He goes down before you die to his attacks. and there is health and armor near to replenish you back to 100/100 after the boss is dead. :) there is even video in youtube of that trick but i cant find it anymore... This trick works at least 85% of the time i have done it.
Does not work on "I am Death incarnate!"; what I usually do is cheese him around the room with those consoles and unbreakable glass, since he goes back and forth in regards to your position on opposite side of wall. This can be used to time him so he eats the Panzerfaust projectile. After 3 of those he becomes slowed down and its even easier to kill, and allows you to kill scientists with no risk.
Great video, I want to play Tide of War in coop, what did you mean by “progress doesn’t save”? Does that mean you have to beat the game in coop in one go? Plz lmk
Hi. Great video! Thanks for all the info! I purchased both game Prima guides to read about them as I do not own any consoles (and I cannot play on controller anyways heh). I wonder - just out of curiosity - does Holy Cross powerup kills new Dark Priest enemy in Tides of War (Xbox)? Thank you

Awesome review! It's refreshing to find someone who properly critiques this games, doesn't completely worship it and goes over its flaws such as some of the cheap game design and the fact that it's a nightmare to properly get running on a modern PC
Would you consider doing a Medal of Honor: Rising Sun review? You have (I think) almost every game reviewed except Rising Sun, which is the best one! In my opinion ;)
You can beat the super soldier easily if you're careful in the previous missions. You can save the X-shield and EMP all the way up to the fight, and it's over in about 10 seconds.
Catacombs are creepy but enemies can easily be stomped. What still freaks me out are the freaking Loopers. Faster than me, they basically do jumpscares, they are ugly as fuck, loud as fuck, and kill you in like 2-3 seconds.
12 years of Third Reich and Bethesda just put the franchise after the war. Shame!! However the best Rtcw is for pc version, with a better escape1 level, mixed with ps2 edition that looks awesome, the castle looks really huge in this.
Wolfenstein 2009 got a lot of flak but I actually liked it on recent replay. It's basically shooting and a bit upgrading and not that modern stuff of having a lengthy cutscene very 10 minutes.
