Great vid but I think Vorador forged the blade prior to the banishment to demon dimension as ancients used blood reaver against their enemies (hence the blood curse). They later brought him over as the 1st turned vampire. And I also believe Mobieus and Mort started Sarafan, not Malek. Either way, love the attention this series is getting!

I think lore videos are really hard to do coz there's so much research that goes into it, and no matter how much you play and read and prepare, you always miss something🫠 I hope I'm at least helping to do the series some justice and spread the word on how awesome these games are.

First 1 of the series I played was Soul Reaver 1. We used to rent it from the old video store on the corner. I was probably around 10 years old. What a life changing experience these games have been.

Would also love to know what would have happened with the Hylden if Kain had sacrificed himself. The binding was weak and the humans unfit to steward the pillars. Would the Hylden have still invaded? One thing that always bothered me about Mobius is his deal with the Elder God. If he was a follower of the teachings why would he ever believe that he would be granted reincarnation?
In my opinion, things might have ended up far worse if Kain had sacrificed himself. The pillars might have been free from corruption, but there also wouldn't be any vampires left. The Hylden invasion was inevitable either way. As for Moebius, I feel like the Elder god appealed to his corrupt mental state and hunger for power. He did make good on his promise, resurrecting him at least once after Kain beheaded him and before Raziel meets him in Soul Reaver. Also, it's worth noting that Moebius only saw the Elder gods' true form when Raziel impaled him with the Reaver and opened his eyes to the truth. I wonder how Moebius actually viewed the Elder god? Curious...

From Defiance we know it was Mobius and Mortaneous who led the rebellion against the remaining ancient vampires which would make them a lot older than we can perceive when we get to the events of Blood Omen. I can't imagine knowledge of the ancients being forgotten in just a generation or two.
Good point... If you think about it, I think both Moebius and Mortanius were the Elder gods pawns all along. The Elder god existed at the dawn of time. He could likely whisper in their ears patiently over generations. Mortanius was probably more unwilling than Moebius, though. The Elder god seeded ideas that the vampires were a scourge of the land. After all, they were stuck out of the wheel of fate, and the Elder god couldn't spin their souls in death. In the end, Mortanius didn't buy the Elder gods lies and was more distracted by the growing dark powers under Avernus. Once he was possessed and had killed Ariel, he maybe had an eye-opening moment of his own and cooked up the idea to create Kain.

He went along with Moebius' rebellion but at the time he created Kain he either regretted his actions and legitimately wanted to return the pillars to Vampire control, or was just being manipulated by Moebius to create the optimal setting to purge the last of the Vampires from Nosgoth and the Hylden Lord into setting the board to ensure the dissolution of the binding to free the Hylden from their prison. The thing that makes the least sense is how Vorador was resurrected between the events of Blood Omen and BO2.
Don't get me started on Vorador🤣 it's so funny how they apparently cut the scenes that depict his resurrection in Defiance, when he's such an important character in the overall story and this is story driven gaming experience. Apparently, Raziel was meant to aid the human Umah in retrieving Vorador's head and bringing it back to his body. This would've resurrected him, and in turn, Uma would've been given the vampiric gift. That whole section didn't make it into the game, so that's kinda what the story should've been, but it's out of the canon.

I'm currently running through the Remastered Soul Reaver 1 as a let's play series and writing the script for the Lore video at the same time. I'll do the same with Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance. I suppose I should do Blood Omen 2, but I'm still debating that 1🤣
Such a great game series, Blood Omen 2 not withstanding. Silicon Knights gave the series a banger of a start but my favourites are the Soul Reaver games with Raziel. My only complaint is Silicon Knights tried to sue Crystal Dynamics during its production so they fast tracker SR1 out the door before it was complete. You were supposed to fight and defeat Turel and absorb his abilities to gain access to a whole new part of the map but at least we killed him in the sequel, all be it his human form.
I've read a bit about the cut levels and dialogue in the game. I see there's a bonus section on the Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered start-up screen... apparently, it includes some cut content that they've added back in. I'll include it in the let's play series. I think I remember reading that Raziel would have killed Kain, then used the pipes in the Silenced Cathedral to emit a sonic blast and unalive all the remaining vampires. Still would have resulted in a 2nd game, apparently as Raziel would have realized that he was played by the Elder god and would need to time travel to fix his mistake.
I didn't mean to insinuate it was an actual prologue of Soul Reaver. More that this video serves as a prologue to people new to the story in preparation for the Soul Reaver 1&2 remake, which I was preparing to do a Let's Play series on. Does that make sense?🙃

This is a great question... Kain was born the instant Ariel died, so why wasn't a new gaurdian of balance born when Kain died. Apparently, it has something to do with the soul of the guardian. It needs to reach the pillar to be reborn into the new guardian. Mortanius likely held his soul captive so he would remain as the balance guardian and not reset the pillar.
Vorador only killed the 6 circle guardians. Raziel killed his human self and the other commanders

did you play Defiance? you get to kill Vampire Turel in that game as well. Plus you play as both Raziel and Kain.
Blood Omen is not a prologue to Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver is the sequel to Blood Omen.

When Kian died, wouldn’t he cease to be the Guardian of Balance?
