Little Barrier Island - New Zealand's Ark

- Eighty kilometers from downtown Auckland is another world… Te Hauturu-o-Toi: Little Barrier Island. For well over a century, this has been a treasured and protected wildlife reservation. The most intact ecosystem in New Zealand. Native species such as hihi and kokako that struggle to survive on the mainland are thriving on Hauturu. There are no pests here, and the waters of the Hauraki Gulf provide protection through isolation.
Little Barrier Island: New Zealand’s Ark gives viewers unprecedented access to the wonders of this precious island. From the stony shores that are a refuge for native reptiles to high ridges, riddled with the burrows of sea birds, and deep into the primeval forest, where native birds, insects and the ancient tuatara live and thrive in peace. This is New Zealand as it once was.

A treasure. There's no need for tourism or interference in this place other than the tireless workers who maintain this place of significance.
a truly beautiful place.the kereru feed on the ground as there have never been predators.i was priveliged to meet arnie.a tuatara the rangers believe is 150 years old.the bird life is amazing.the dawn chorus is stunning.
A real treasure and thanks to all those involved over many years in protecting the fauna & flora.
Truly beautiful! Hopefully they keep civilians away and keep it protected!

Love ❤️ from India ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
well done presentation.
nice stuff
Amazing stuff, would love to visit here, particularly to see the Kakapo! I imagine it must be tricky to film there considering the weather / terrain? Beautiful documentary guys!

💓💓💓💓💓
Wowsers! I want to go!! :)
Me too but access is strictly regulated - you must apply for a permit and landings are limited. Nearby Tiritiri Matangi island and the Tawharanui Peninsula are much more accessible reserves teeming with native birds.
10:27 Weta infested by cordyceps?
One of the biggest worries in protecting the flora and fauna of this place would be from poachers, there's a big market for most of it in China.
Doubt it we got the strictest security in the world for our precious taonga
