A small point for those who stress that Melt “didn't really act, just did stunts”: anyone with even a modicum of training as an actor, even a half-day workshop, knows how exhausting and important it is to learn how to recognize one's body and how to handle it. That fact alone conveys emotion. One of the best episodes of the season.
Also, it wasn't JUST the stunt. That was only to grab the audience's attention. The improvement in ACTING was afterwards, during the fight with Monme, where he had dug into his feelings of frustration and practiced until he could powerfully project those feelings out into the audience, so that the audience could feel what the character was feeling when he realized that he'd never been as good a sword fighter as he thought he was and was completely outmatched by Monme. That was the real growth. People who say it was just the stunt basically must have made that judgement right after the stunt and then stopped paying attention to what was going on.
Fun fact that Patreon subs might've already told you: Melt's sequence that started right after he says "For this one minute, I won't lose to anybody" was exactly 1 minute long
One of my favorite parts of this episode is watching the beginning of the play and actually seeing all the script changes that Abiko and GOA were talking about when they were teleconferencing to fix the script. You see that they didn't have Blade encounter bandits before finding the sword and the dialog with Tsurugi that was added to explain the nature of the sword, instead. You see Blade and Tsurugi walking in front of the moving background, giving the sense of traveling, just like GOA promised it would. Later on, if you're watching for it, you notice that the scene where Blade's followers tell him he should run ahead while they stay to hold off the Shibuya faction followers is the scene that the actors were rehearsing in the background while Melt was trying to understand the motivations of his character. It's so cool how you get to see the play being planned and taking form, and then the final results during the performance.
Where alot authors create there characters to appeal to the lowest common denominator but Aka takes the opposite rout he takes character in worlds completely different then your average person but he still makes us understand and relate to them.
I love how he takes a character like Melt, who you really despise for making Kana's life hell and ruining the adaptation of Yuriko's beloved manga, and makes him relatable, redeems him and has you cheering for him at the end. He did the same with Miyako in episode one, where she starts by not even wanting to babysit the twins, intending to sell them out to scandal rags for money, then ends by becoming the best adoptive Mom ever, even in the face of being abandoned by her husband at the same time.
When I tell you the emotional whiplash I got seeing Melt "not care" to taking his role seriously... to the reveal that he emotionally disassociates because he was taken advantage of when younger my word🥹😭😭
5:00 Btw, Tsurugi's blades having hearts in them is anime original. No idea why tf they thought that was needed, super weird, but it is definitely unique.
I'm giving You my favorite moment of this episode! 13:20 When the animation becomes out of this world for a specific character, I say that in this case Melt has "The moment of a Star" in this anime!✨ Great reaction!😃
Things are just getting more sad with Chapter 165, -After Niino was arrested, she confessed everything. It tums out there were a few others like her who were also deceived by Hikaru, as well as a few other victims. -Akane thought to herself, "Aqua doesn’t want me to takerisks. If | say | want to get involved myself, he'll definitely be angry. Not leaving me a letter was also his way of avoiding any flaws in his plan.” -During Aqua's open casket funeral, Kana looked at Aqua's preserved face (we also see him) and slapped him. Before anyone could react, Miyako (her hair is now short), slapped her back, staring at Kana in shocked anger. -Kana finally broke down, crying, "I kept my promise and slapped you. Didn't you say you wouldnt die, you liar? | haven't even told you | like you yet! Get up, come back to life!” -Akane supported Kana, who was crying so hard she could barely stand. -At the concert, Kana kept looking for his white glow stick, but she couldn't find it. -Therewas a lot of controversy over whether the film would be released, but the director insisted on screening it. Due to the news of Aqua's death, the movie became a massive success. -Watching Ruby kneeling in the room, murmuring and crying about losing yet another important person, Akane thought, “Normally, Ruby wouldnt be able to return to the public eye after this. But you probably expect that they're not people who break so easily”
One of the greatest anime redemption arc isn't even a full arc, it's just a single freaking episode 👏

Thing that gets brushed up often because there's no mention of age, Melt was 12-13 when a 15-16 year old woman took advantage of him
MELTO THE MAN YOU ARE
