    Think it's good that you want to support your local brands. To me, it's not just about the business aspect of it. It's also about the fact that American brands are produced by people who see the colors from our latitude on Earth and Europeans see the colors from your latitude. I think this makes a difference. The angle of the sun is different in these different latitudes, so colors surely appear differently. I know Daniel Smith paints are beautiful, but I paint mostly landscapes from my travels in England and Ireland and just don't want the retina-burning brilliance of DS to render moody Irish skies. When in Italy, was happy to use Maimeri. They worked better than Winsor. From this perspective also, it makes sense for you to choose colors produced in your general geographical area, it seems to me. Maybe it's all in my imagination, but I think I can see differences in the paints produced in these different places. ☺️

      Blurta Pinyin it is certainly an intetesting idea. I'd never thought of that. My style is not realism so I don't really hunt for true colors. But I do look at light a lot. So it makes me wonder. It would be a great question for a manufacturer...

    The colours are simply wonderful! I'd happily buy them all. I really hope that when the Isaro shop is up and running they will ship to Finland! Thank you once again, Mandy!

    Hi Mandy, I've been watching your videos and love your art process. You and your art encourage me to make my own art! Your channel is for me a wonderful place to get to know about colors and supplies, because I live in Germany and before I discovered your place I only can learn it from American artists (language barrier :p). I love your honest and interesting way of telling and I love your voice, also the occasionally pet noises! I can't agree more with what you said in this video about the marketing tycoon problems, and I hope more people can see this content and become more conscious about it when shopping. Thank you for making these videos, have a good day!

    Thank you! Thank you!! I've been using watercolors for about a year now. I bought the Daniel Smith sample dot cards. And I absolutely LOVE some of the colors so those are the ones I use. But your review has opened my eyes to some of the other properties to look for in watercolor paints. Thank you, again, so much! I look forward to my next Sunday morning with nothing to do to take out those sample cards again. 💕

    I loved hearing your joy and reactions to these colors. I've always been curious about them I see them on Jackson at reasonable prices. I love vibrant and Intense colors and feel the same as you about smaller companies and handmade paints. I'm going to look closer at the pigments and light fastness and going to try a few of these on my next order. :)

      That's weird, isn't it? That I hear people buy them at Jackson's for fair prices. But everytime I see it, it's rather expensive. I must be missing on the super deals :-)

    The Isaro Grey reminds me of the Davy's Grey in Winsor & Newton. I like it. Fortunately, I don't know where I would buy it except off the site, because I've already gone crazy with Old Holland paints under your influence!

    Hi Mandy - I am SO pleased to find your channel! Thank you for the in depth review of these paints - new to me - I really enjoyed it and your reactions to the colours, I totally agree we should try to support local companies and smaller ones at that. I shall be watching more of your videos and look forward to that! Go well and stay safe ;-)

    Mandy I see that happening in Australian art stores as well. You can’t get some brands in some ... only in online stores in Australia 🤷🏼‍♀️. It’s very frustrating. I see what you’re saying 🤔. Thank you 🙏 for this review never heard of this brand 😊🎨💗

    Thanks so much for this and all your reviews; they’re always lovely, informative and feels like a chat in which I always learn something.
    I feel like someone shifted some colors while naming them since some colors are almost like they belong with the name next to them, at least in the yellows and reds. Then after that I feel like they really mix some names and others were just given names that someone ok, but missed , in some of them completely, the mark on them.
    I also think that “Isaro Yellow Deep” is just ad orange and the Indian Yellow is too light. I agree that the Cad Orange is too red, that the Cad Red Lt is too dark, that the Magenta is too red (pretty, but too red). The Isaro Pink is more like a red violet or violet red. I like the mauve a lot even though is darker than usual and the Ultramarie Pink and Ultramarine Violet. Also really like the granulation on the Ult Violet. I find the Payne’s Grey too blue, maybe is the video?
    Now the Prussian Blue is too light and, to me, almost like Phthalo Blue Red Shade. The Indigo looks more like Prussian Blue though and I found that funny.
    I think that Yellow Ocher is so clean and so yellow. The Raw Sienna is so weak and light and it look like you were trying hard to get it to activate. Also the Burnt Sienna looks to me like an English Red or Venetian Red. The Mars Red looks more like Mars Brown and the Mars Brown looks almost like a light Burnt Sienna or something like that. The Vandyke Brown made me think of a very dark Sepia because it looks so inky and then sure enough that’s what you said it look like. The Oxide Purple, to me, looks almost like Perylene Maroon.
    On the Phthalo Green Yellow, I think they mean that is a Phthalo Green Yellow Shade, I’ve seen that in other brands, but they don’t add the ‘Yellow’ I the name just add YS in parenthesis; it is a lovely color though and I like that you can see the looks separating in it. The Phthalo Green looks to me like sort of like a phthalo turquoise. I was expecting the Emerald Green to be the Viridian of the set just like other brands do calling their Viridian, Emerald Green, but it look leaning towards the turquoise side more than usual. I also liked hat the Chromium Oxide Green is softer than what I have. And the Raw Umber is too light. I liked how the Steel blue dried and separated.
    My god I’ve typed way too much!! In all, I really like pretty much all the colors including the sparkly ones, even though the sparkles didn’t show in camera, but just the colors themselves where pretty also.
    Thanks so much for this and all your reviews; they’re always lovely, informative and feels like a chat in which I always learn something.

    I think there is more to worry about the flood of products coming from China. I have heard you promote the merits of Rembrandt and Van Gogh lines of watercolor paints but when you have China putting a product line called Paul Reubens, I mean it sounds like a European product sold at a fraction of the price. $77 for the Paul Reubens 48 colors vs $160 for the Rembrandt pallet of 48 colors. What do you think most people are going to purchase? And on Amazon, where many of these products are sold, unless you already know, it isn't clear where they come from or where they are made. Paul Reubens is now well known; we know it's made in China, but I was fooled once. I live in the US, I try to buy first made locally, but when I can't, because it isn't made here, then I try to buy made anywhere but China, because I don't want to see everything end up being made there. I have bought art supplies from Schminke, Sennelier, Faber Castel, Derwent, Caran Dache, Roman Szmal, MaiMeri Blu, Winsor and Newton, and Rembrandt and of course from Daniel Smith, Da Vinci-(not to be confused with the paint brush manufacturer, this a small paint manufacture in California) and M. Graham.

    • @MandyvanGoeije
      @MandyvanGoeije  3 роки тому +2

      There's nothing wrong with buying Paul Rubens, as long as people know what they can expect, which is why I and some other people do honest reviews. I haven't painted with them myself yet. And to be honest, I fear the worst, for many art supplies that have been produced in China are not to my liking since they lack in quality. I have a set of Paul Rubens now and I hope that one is better, also in the long run. Amazon is not a good place to buy art supplies, indeed. Personally I haven't had any bad experiences yet, but last week I found M. Graham watercolor paint...a 5 tube set for 30 dollars. I knew it stank. So I checked out the seller through and through and reported them to Amazon because it turned out it's a fake seller. Unfortunately, Amazon haven't taken down their M. Graham listings. So no, I don't think I'll ever buy art supplies with Amazon.

    Based on your review, I truly like these paints. I’m going to watch your demo using the paints to see how well they “play” together. I have a feeling I’m going to love it! Let’s hope they will be affordable for US based customers.

    Always enjoy your reviews. They have helped me decide which paints I'd like to try. Agree about Venetian /English /Indian Reds. Yuck, they always seem to look like dried blood (Being postmenopausal, I'm done with that! Don't need my paints to remind me!) Agree about change, too👍

      Hello Sleepy Teacher, I am late to your question, I see. Your comment escaped my attention, I'm afraid. But the brand you're asking about is Nila Colori, an all-natural pigment Italian brand. Very interesting to try!

    Nice video. The oxide purple reminds me of caput mortem. The raw sienna was a bit disappointing - I also use this color for skin tones. I have some that I really like but I forget which brand it is. I think it actually might be a store brand like Blick’s but supposedly better brands of paint have not been as good. Don’t worry about people calling the Dutch “frugal.” Since I am Jewish, but don’t particularly “look Jewish,” people will make comments to me that they would never make if they knew I was Jewish. I usually (tartly) remind them of the many art and science museums built by Jews in my city. That is my touchstone for generosity. Amsterdam has some of the best museums anywhere, all built by the Dutch!

    Many of the established brands are now owned by multi-nationals. They sell cheap in order to control the market and the quality of the products go down. Nice to see small companies taking on the big boys. :-)

    • @MandyvanGoeije
      @MandyvanGoeije  6 років тому +1

      Are they? I thought DS, Schmincke and Winsor and Newton are still just paint manufacturing companies under their own wings, or have I missed something? I must admit that the market isn't really transparent. I love small manufacturers too. I love the diversity and the choices they dare make because they are more flexible.

    • @terencemolloy1827
      @terencemolloy1827 6 років тому

      Mandy van Goeije W& N are now made in France. They are owned by Colart an American company. Daler Rowney, Lukas and Maimeri are owned by FILA. Royal Talens is part of the Sakura group as is Bruynzeel. I could go on forever. As far as I know Sennelier, DS, Schminke and Old Holland are still independent companies.

    • @terencemolloy1827
      @terencemolloy1827 6 років тому

      You have to search hard to find out what's going on. DS and Schmincke are still independent. eg. Daler Rowney, Lukas, Maimeri, St Cuthbert's Mill and a few others are owned by FILA. Winsor and Newton, Conte, Lefranc, Canson and a number of others are under the Colart banner. I envisage a time when these multinationals will drop some of these brands like they have in other industries????

    • @_Obey_
      @_Obey_ 5 років тому +1

      @@terencemolloy1827 Royal Talens is the parent company, bruynzel (dont know how to spell it) sakura, amsterdam etc are daughter companies.
      One of my fave affordable brands tbh. I think price and quality add up. I am currently using their acrylics which seem very good to me, especially for the price. Liquitex and Golden, coming from the USA are really expensive here in Switzerland or Europe in general. They might be very good but I feel like you also pay that much bc they can afford it. Brands 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @StorytellingHeadshots
      @StorytellingHeadshots 2 роки тому +1

      The reason the US brands are expensive in Europe is the EU places a HUGE tax on incoming brands to make them more expensive than they otherwise would be to match the tax they also level against the European brands.

    The only pigment here I currently use in another brand that would interest me is Green Earth. I use Sennelier paints, in the main, for watercolor and so use their PBr7 Green Earth and find it amazing how they get that color as both their umbers are also PBr7. I use GE as a convenience color mostly and mostly wherever I might use grey without its blueishness or yellowishness... (not words I know;) Having been an oil painter for many years, the beauty of watercolor, for me, is its delicacy and the "glow" of Sennelier. As for intensity, when I want to paint as an oil painter without the allergy triggers, I use gouache and use M Graham for that as they use no opacifiers but only high pigment load to attain "opacity.." So I don't use gouache as the majority of watercolorists I've seen do even when using it opaquely. As such, I see no difference between it and Blockx for much less money. Blockx runs circles around Daniel Smith for pigment load as does M Graham gouache... so why pay more?.. well unless M Graham doesn't carry a gouache pigment (they're fairly limited) then, seeing your review, I would choose a Blockx transparent. Thank you Mandy. Most helpful.
