We had a HUGE scandal at the Goodwill stores in San Jose, California area 10-15 years ago where a district manager, her hubby and relatives ran a backdoor theft ring for decades before they were caught. Skimmed off all the best stuff that came in the door at multiple locations as she would install her relatives in managerial positions. It is a very, very wealthy area and very close proximity to San Francisco and a short flight to LA etc.
I was having lunch in a goodwill parking lot and watched a lady drive up and give the employees some bags, and about 10 minutes later an employee put those bags right into her car. Point is this happens everywhere and employee theft is rampant at these stores
That blonde women behind the counter that kept walking away was def involved in the sketchy jacket situation The Bedroom turned out awesome i was super impressed great job alli!
Maybe call the SWAT TEAM. Is the president aware of this. Did anyone get finger prints . Call CNN A 55 year old women whose trying to pay her monthly bills and put food on her table knows something, shut the boarders down she may skip out of the country. Call the K9 team.
That blond lady, looked like OMG I’m busted at what we’re doing here. Im grew up in the Salvation Army, my grandfather was the minister and we did everything Salvation Army so I’m also sensitive to what you guys pointed. I’m also new to reselling and also appreciate that item being available to the public first. Thank you guys 😊
Your mom is so lucky to have you to help her. Amazing transformation! I was in a St. V's once and a guy came in. "Mr. eBay!" shouted a worker as he brought out a box of the good stuff for this guy. I gave "Mr. eBay" a withering look and he knew that I knew that we knew what was going on...😠
That's the Salvation Army in Batavia... half hour from my house. It's usually relatively decent. You've gotta assume the ladies behind the counter are backdooring stuff they want for themselves at these small town stores.
At my local Salvation Army, they have a couple of people who have a business relationship with the inventory/warehouse manager for specific types of inventory. The same thing with the Habitat ReStore.
Honestly I don't agree with you guys concerning employees not having an opportunity to pick some items prior to it going to the floor because they are not paid a lot and some should be able to have at least two or three items a week the salvation army have more than enough items to assist them with their causes one or two items shouldn't make or break their bottom line I feel as resellers we should understand that I we have so many hard working employees at these stores and calling they out like that is not fair especially on camera at least block out their faces.
I think these are amongst the best videos you have ever posted. You both look so happy and relaxed together. The ones where you are messing around in the snow make you seem like teenagers 😍
ah stop leave the old ladies alone. if you guys worked at a thrift shop youd definitely keep the good stuff for yourselves. dont be butt hurt cus you saw something in the back room and you couldnt buy it! you guys shouldnt be looking back there anyway! fair enough the door was wide open but you guys were 100% attacking the employees cus you wasnt able to buy that jacket. very petty
At our SA, the employees clog the checkout line with full carts of merchandise at closing time. It’s DISGUSTING! They despise resellers…but people in need aren’t going to buy most things we buy.
Umm, can we please have a home reno channel with Alli?! Omg I 100% wanna sub and watch her renovate for hours! She did such a fantastic job and is so passionate!
I saw an employee at value village put what I assumed was a plush in the plush pile but then 2 minutes later I saw a customer walk to that exact spot and pull out a stack of video games. I was shocked to see that happen so openly.
I also seen a manager take out some nice Brand sandals on the hardware are and turned to look at a customer . Gave her a look went back in and customer walked fast and grabbed them all happy! Same manager we think is hooking up their own customers! In another store we see people come in and employees say not today or one went to drop area grabbed a bag and put in car and left! They still want our round up donations!!!!!
I was told by an ex employee that sometimes they have friends or family waiting on the sales floor poised to grab the item as soon as it hits it, that they have set up by text. It’s not hard to do. Lucrative business if you have a friend on the inside, but not very sportsmanlike. Other staff don’t like to get involved, especially if it’s a supervisor, which in this case, it was. 😒
The stores around me - 3 hrs southeast of Buffalo - only 1 or possible 2 people are allowed to price - this is supposed to stop employees from pricing too low for themselves or friends . It works when it is somebody who doesn't work at that particular store - but is also annoying when something is not marked and you can not buy it until it is priced. Once an item has been marked it can be purchased by an employee at their discount. Love watching the redo of the house- it's lovely!
Love, love, love the paint color of the room! I’ve gotten so tired of the gray colors that have been used so much in the last few years. The blue color is a nice neutral. The closet floor is wonderful, too. Great job, Alli!! 😊
At our Salvation Army in Jacksonville Florida, the back employees are allowed a 1 item each per week as part of their pay, they actually have vouchers. But only if they are part of the drug rehabilitation program & don’t get paid, they get room & board for their work. That’s how ours S.A. works at least.
Honestly, if the employee finds something cool and they’re paying for it I think that’s fine to sit it aside til payday. A little perk of working there.
My thoughts exactly, the money is still going to the store and charities. They overreacted a little because they weren’t able to resell the big profit jacket.
If you’re worried about Salvation Army getting taken advantage of by the employees pricing stuff low and buying it for themselves and not giving the right profits to people who need why question the nascar jacket in the beginning ? At that point let them try and get 150 or 75 on half of days since it’s going to a good cause right ? I get back door deals happen but you just gotta shrug it off and keep moving and find the next item because it really isn’t worth having this conversation with them. They don’t get paid enough to care.
It would not be so bad if they would not jack up their prices so high that resell can not make a living, but then skim anything remotely decent off the top.My local good will want 7 bucks for a LL Bean shirt ffs.
Hubby and I love you guys! We live just south of you in Florida. We do have a question. Instead of supporting Goodwill stores, thoughts on mainly supporting the animal charity shops, habitat for humanity shops, st vinny, etc. In our town alone, we have so many.
No difference in where the money goes if the employee buys it for themselves or if you guys buy it. Money goes to the same cause I don’t see how that’s a valid argument you were trying to make.
Oh and I really enjoy the SVA where I live. Lots of $1 shirts and my niece loved them all. They don't have money to buy new things very often with 5 kids.
Yepppp. I was recently conversing with a fellow reseller at goodwill waiting for new racks to come out.. a tagger walked out from the back, handed him a neatly folded stack of tees and a vintage carhartt jacket. Will never go back!
I love that you found a Tampa Bay Lightning shirt in New York! These vlogs are so much fun. Thanks so much for sharing. The bedroom and closet are gorgeous! It's always amazing to watch a transformation. P.S. That sketchy stuff is going on at our Salvation Army stores right now (St. Pete region) and it's disgusting. The policy here is the employees aren't allowed to shop at the store AT ALL, let alone take something before it goes to the floor.
First saturday in may we are having our yard sale and its gonna be a huge one since we buy storage units and this is the first since last year. Gonna have some really great stuff! Come see us lol!
We have a pair of local thrifters who literally spend 8 hours a day standing in the most expensive thrift store within a 100 miles, 5 days a week. Don't know what that pays per hour but they cut deals with staff. I literally witnessed one put cash in the hand of a pricer at Savers and they in turn handed, from the back donation area, merch. I submitted an online complaint. Now one of the pricers will walk onto the sales floor with new items and tell them, "hey, go check boots". Pisses me off. Huge shout out for saying something!
Alli that room & closet is amazzzzzing!!! You all did a fantastic job! When you guys are all done the house will be worth way more than what your mom paid for it!!!
I love you guys straight called out the salvation army and then narc them off. I mean we all know there's shady stuff going on in the back rooms at thrift stores. But it not everyday you get to catch them up on it. Then while calling the lady out on it she makes it even worse. Lol. Love your videos.
They blonde lady was so ready to snap, she was probably guilty as heck. we had a Salvation Army Thrift Store open for a little while in our town and the whole staff was backdoor selling and sketchy . It closed down .
Some people don't like resellers. I was talking to someone and I told them that I sell on ebay then she said oh I hate that people buy out all the good stuff at Good Well and sell it so high on ebay, so maybe that's why she gave you a bad adatude.
Alli the room looks beautiful you did a awesome job it is amazing how paint can change the whole look of a room you did a great job and your moms home is beautiful these videos were fun to watch
I found a photograph of one of the former vice presidents w/his family at the White House in the bins. Goodwill would not sell it to me because it was a "family photo". She took away some fishing photos and almost didn't sell me a vintage tin. My friend had a lot of the same stuff and put it in a white garbage bag and was not bothered. No fair. The "bins" upped their prices and started taking away thing from customers. Bite me!
There’s a guy in my area who seems to have an “in” at some of the thrift stores. He’s been seen in the back room talking to employees. I went near the door and peeked in and was basically told to get lost.
Between the manager at the Goodwill and then the way the people are acting here at the Salvation Army looks like there's some sketch thrifting going on in that area.
Our local Hospice Thrift Store has trucks that can come pick up donations from your house. The truck drivers always have people waiting for them when they get back to store and they sell stuff right off of the truck. Shady AF!
Yeah I get it's annoying to RESELLERS but I don't really see the issue as long as the item is indeed paid for. I think you're just looking at it from your own perspective and making it personal against your business.
I've loved the New York trip videos', it makes me think about Erie, Pa. I really love the countryside drives too. Especially in the winter, The hills, the Farms and Barns. It just makes Florida look so flat and boring. I'll have to hop over to Alli's channel and see the rest of the houses' progression. Thank you for taking us with you!
My son has a job working for a thrift store. Employees can not buy items until they have been on the floor for at least 2 hours, and they have to buy ot on their own time. This gives everyone a chance at buying the "good stuff." They had to enforce this rule because they had problems with employees holding items and pricing items for their benefit. Everyone deserves to have the chance to get awesome items!🤗
You go gurl ! The room did come out amazing 👏. You did a great job, better than some contractors I know. I live in New York City far from where you guys were. It was hilarious when you walked into the goodwill and you saw Ryan's face watching out for the Mean lady. That made me laugh so much 🤣. It was hilarious. Thanks for the video and trip to Alliy's mom's new home. Congratulations, mom 🎉. Ps. Road trip next
lol thats happend to me before. ross employees scan stuff and if anything pops up for 49 cents they say oooh and put it in their pile to buy. I know this because I tried to buy her pile and she says sorry thats mine. its kiinda pathetic but they work there and get the benefits. their managers are in on it too and dont care either.
At the salvation army and good will..stores in our area employees can purchase once it goes on the floor and they are off work and can come back in store to purchase
Enjoyed your trip to New York. I'm a Jersey girl myself, now I'm on the Treasure Coast. I know in the GW's And Sallies by me, the concert tee shirts and good sports stuff is looked up and priced accordingly. At the bins in Lake Worth the concert tee shirts are pulled before the stuff is rolled out. I'm primarily a hard goods reseller, but I learned a lot from watching you and Alli. Great job with the bedroom. Atlanta is a great area for thrifting. I have family there. I think from where you are it's a six hour drive.
I loved this video from start to finish! I need Alli so much! I will join the new channel! I feel like I went to New York with a couple of good friends! Thanks for the ride!
Not gonna lie… this was so damn cringe… seeing two salty upper class flippers complain about a jacket they didn’t get to flip for more money than Salvos will make on it. You really don’t wanna call out these thrift stores but you did and possibly cost that lady her minimum wage job.
How can they cost her her job unless she’s not following company policy ie lying. I don’t know why the manager couldn’t sell them the jacket there was literally no one barely in the store and obviously no one had purchased it. Seems like a lot of hogwash she told. Manager: I’m only here 3 days I can’t sell it😂
@@MomandBuggs They said the jacket needs to be priced in the back before it came out on the floor. Why would they then go and price the jacket (assuming they do the pricing) just because random people are pressuring them?
@@KathyDoucette I wouldn’t call a customer a random. What if you were a customer in a store and they called you that. I wouldn’t call asking about merchandise in a store as pressuring. You’ve never asked a clerk a question?
Our local Salvation Army takes their high value items in a monthly store…silent auction…..makes for $ for programs. Items are put in a showcase and bids are taken during the month.
The salvation army here (southeast FL) holds things for employees. They put it behind the counter or bring it in a cart to the back. I'm in there enough to know this.
I watched the employees at a Catholic Ladies of Charity store arrive in the parking lot on a Monday to open the store. I was driving at a distance so I pulled over and watched all 5 of them go through the large stack of weekend donations outside and load up what they wanted into their vehicles before opening the thrift store. This was several years ago in Bastrop Texas
There are backdoor deals happening all the time. I'm always nice/polite and by doing that I have developed connections that help me out. With the pricing I will negotiate if I feel the pricing is off. At the Flea Market I've developed such great relationships that I can named my own price. Everyone just need to be respectful and understand everyone is trying to make a buck.
I totally agree. These 2 women probably make $10 and hour trying to make it day to day. Very disappointed in this UA-camr trying to shame these women. I am sure they have gotten deals over the years.
Our Salvation Army also feeds the homeless, gives groceries to the needy as well as training newly released from jail, and provides shelter for the homeless.
Nice to see you up in Our area of town. By the way, another scenario Is..... Price and tag the jacket and not put it out on the floor, Then when the Final Color Discount price hits, they walk it to the register and buy it of .99 Cents.
Alli you did an amazing job! So talented. Ryan don’t worry you will find another jacket out in the wild. Perhaps the person it was being held for needed a win.
Aly… theres a lady on YT who repurposes furniture. She featured a scented wax, that you apply to the inside of drawers of old dressers to get those funky smells out. If you want me to share the product, maybe just ❤ the comment, Ill find and share. Its so cool. Love the vlog!! Great job on reno!
Could that be Transcend Furniture Gallery? 🙂 Love her!! I also use that wax, it is Lemon-Verbena by Fusion and it smells great. Just a cautionary word that it needs to be very well wiped, buffed and cured when used in clothing drawers, or else it could stain the items...
It's not only sketchy it's not fair on anybody else who shops the thrifts whether for themselves or to resell. I have seen a young man coming out of the back entrance of a local thrift quite a few times with heaps of stuff. One day he had a rather nice saddle and I asked him about it (old ladies can get away with baling up most people 😄), his Aunt saved him good stuff to sell - the management has since changed and she no longer works there. I can't complain though, I have picked up some gems there. Loving your trip to the cold North! The renovated room looks lovely, blue is my favourite colour, so restful, you did a great job. Stay safe and well 🥰🦘🦘🦘
Ali's segment at the end of the video was top notch guys. I'm at the point now where she NEEDS to be on TV w her own DIY show! That was great decor ideas
the room turned out great. i like the color combo. i've seen making chalk paint mixing plaster of paris with latex paint; and i have seen mixing latex paint with fabric softener (for a leather like look). i would be interested to see how using all 3 products would turn out. i've never seen that combo used before. i'll keep watching (this channel and the other one)
It’s an interesting argument you bring up however playing devils advocate, finding and buying expensive items you know are very underpriced in any thrift store for resale could also be seen as taking advantage of the store/charity. Love the videos, huge fan of the channel.
Yeah people underestimate the value of stuff that comes through a place like this.
Maybe her SUPER TIGHT & EFFECTIVE MASK was obstructing her Oxygen flow 😂
@@Dani-ICU-RN LOL!! How? It doesn't cover her nose.
So this might be an unpopular question...but who cares if employees are holding things for themselves? They work at salvation army.

Great job with the bedroom. Atlanta is a great area for thrifting. I have family there. I think from where you are it's a six hour drive.
Do you go to the Columbia SC area? Is that a good area?
@@elizabethjohnson5831 Sorry I do not.
Love it all! Great stuff.great house great people
I loved this video from start to finish!
Seriously. These employees make minimum wage they deserve to benefit however they can from their job. Thrift stores are not only meant for resellers.
They genuinely believed they were entitled to that jacket, seems like they think the world evolves around them.
Just saying; stay humble. Great and amazing job Alli ❤
“It’s a little sketchy out today so I’m going to drive Lolol”
Our local Salvation Army takes their high value items in a monthly store…silent auction…..makes for $ for programs. Items are put in a showcase and bids are taken during the month.
Looks beautiful. Amazing job on the room/closet makeover. ❤ that’s an amazing old home. I grew up 90 miles from there. Reminds me of where I grew up.
The salvation army here (southeast FL) holds things for employees. They put it behind the counter or bring it in a cart to the back. I'm in there enough to know this.
Generally shoppers are not allowed in the back room. It is an insurance issue.
Pretty house!! Great paint color! Love the Teton. & The blonde seems Mad. In TX you can't buy from the Goodwill you work at at all I heard.
You should travel to Salisbury, NC. Lots of antique and thrift stores in and around the area. And great pizza at Salty Caper!
I hope people from Giddings see this, too. Shameful
How do you know 1) that they didn't pay for it 2) that they weren't pulling the more valuable stuff to sell in other areas?
Hahahaha!!! Alli going all ‘conspiracy theory’ on the manager! I LOVE IT!!! 😂😂😂
I live in upstate NY, you two are so funny in the snow, lol!
Man those scotty T shirts were cool, never found a Scotty T-shirt but have found some Scotty putters in Goodwill and thrift stores before.
Same here in upstate NY
My trick for cutting in to ceilings or walls is a sash brush. If you don't use one now I hope you'll try it.
Stay safe and well 🥰🦘🦘🦘
The two of you compliments each other’s strengths. You are two peas in a pod that’s for sure. It is a beautiful house for sure. Safe travels.
Love your adventures, keep on taking us along
Such a fun series! Your perspective of winter was fun to watch. :)
My family is moving to the New York area soon so it’s so nice to see what the thrifting is like thanks!
Loved seeing the update on the house! Great work on that room!!
Thanks so much!
Ali's segment at the end of the video was top notch guys. I'm at the point now where she NEEDS to be on TV w her own DIY show! That was great decor ideas
The lady cashier looks annoyed LOL
Great colors..💙🔵🟦
They have buyers who go through a lot of their stuff. Like jewelry. They pick out all of the good stuff first, like gold and silver. 😊
Oldsmar flea market! My favorite place as child!!!
Loving ALL your work.. you two ROCK!
Eastern Michigan has some awesome Goodwill's and other thrift stores. They have a lot of antique furniture, that would go great in the house.
the room turned out great. i like the color combo. i've seen making chalk paint mixing plaster of paris with latex paint; and i have seen mixing latex paint with fabric softener (for a leather like look). i would be interested to see how using all 3 products would turn out. i've never seen that combo used before. i'll keep watching (this channel and the other one)
It’s an interesting argument you bring up however playing devils advocate, finding and buying expensive items you know are very underpriced in any thrift store for resale could also be seen as taking advantage of the store/charity. Love the videos, huge fan of the channel.
