Imagine being the first in line at an estate sale and thinking you're entitled to everyone else's purchases. The delusion is astonishing. I've been doing this 35 years and that doesn't fly ANYWHERE.
This is what I was thinking. If he felt entitled to what they already had in their hands, then he would’ve equally felt entitled to take hats away from anyone checking out/paying. That’s ridiculous.

Wow…I can’t believe how entitled that guy was. It sucks he was #2 and went to the wrong part of the house but thats how it goes sometimes. I also can’t believe the workers actually tried to back him up. Glad you ended up getting them even if they aren’t the best finds in the world because it was about the principle at that point. Also, gotta give props to that lady at the end with the chair who spoke up for you as well.
Yeah. That was kind of shady if you ask me. Something is going on there. Because she was adamant about letting him get the items. Just because your number two in line doesn't give you dibs on stuff. Other people got to first. I don't understand her logic.

The employee of the Estate Sale defending him is absolutely ludicrous. I would NEVER go to another Blue Moon sale again because they just showed us all they are not fair. You kept your cool at the same time standing your ground. Knowing he was creeping in your wife's space (for a hat!!! - and then says later he wants ALL the hats) was so low. Glad you had a good time at the garage sales afterwards.

Guys in 28 years of eBay reselling you can ONLY IMAGINE how many estate sales I have been to. I have never in my life seen seen it run that way. So let's say the 1st 10 people pick number one through 10 and they're gonna let 10 in at time So what you're supposed to follow the number one guy around until he gets his stuff and then the number two person That is how it works?? insane! The number system only gives you order of going into the sale not priority of buying anything that someone else has picked up first. If that was the case someone could walk in as number 1 and stand by the till/checkout area and take every single item they liked from anyone else that was about to pay. I would also stand my ground and do exactly what you did.

Estate Sales are Always: whoever gets to items first gets them! There's been plenty of times I went in first, but wasn't first to find certain items. It's about first to have it in your hand, not about your entry number. I was so pissed that the estate people were even acting like that douche had a case! So glad you guys stood your ground. Those people have NO business running estate sales if they don't know how they work! Love you guys!

What made it worse was the fact that the workers didn't seem to find anything wrong with what he did and thought he still deserved to be there and get the hats! This guy is the reason I hate estate sales when they first open! It's worse up here in central New York. I always carry a large bag, and I've gotten to the check out counter and stuff has been missing from my bag. I never set the bag down, so not sure how stuff was stolen out of the bag. You handled it better than I would have, but I don't think these people know what the numbers are used for.... unbelievable!

Those rules are absurd. I’ve never seen any sale, rummage, garage sale, estate sale that would think that the other guy should get the hat. He got in there before you did so he had more time to find it. You were in the same position looking for it, but you didn’t get in as soon as he did. It’s not your fault that you guys got to the house before he did.
I think she's making it up on the spot. I think something shady is going on between that seller and the estate sale worker. Just because your first in line doesn't give you the right to get dibs on stuff you didn't get to first.
Can you imagine this playing out in an actual store?? You walk in behind someone, you go to the produce section, you buy your bag of apples, and then some random shopper comes over to take them out of your cart because it was the last bag & they wanted them. And you tell them "No way." and they go to a manager and tell them "Oh, I walked into the store before this guy, so I'm entitled to those apples, even if they were already in their cart." I mean that would be an insane situation to find yourself in to begin with; but then imagine if the manager actually went along with that nonsense!!

The problem was they moved the items last minute and so when he came in and asked about them they sent him on a wild goose chase then felt bad about it. But still regardless, first come first serve! 😢
Exactly! If they felt badly about it, then that was something they needed to work out between them & the other guy. As you said "first come, first serve" does not mean what they were trying to say it means. They needed to apologize to the other guy for giving him the wrong info and then if they wanted to try to make it right some OTHER way, that's up to them.

I had a clown 🤡 try to take a pair of vintage Nike’s from my cart twice at thrift city. I literally had to take them out of this clowns hands.

I’m local to Tampa and will NEVER go to a Blue Moon Estate” sale again. For them to try to try to justify that idiot’s actions is absolutely ridiculous!!! Estate sale companies give out numbers a lot, then let a group of people in. It doesn’t mean the first numbers get whatever they want. It’s first come, especially with the number of people that were in the house. Once the company lets you through the door, everything is up for grabs. The numbers just mean you get in earlier. It doesn’t mean you can take whatever you want from other people. That’s crazy! What an a$$hole that guy was!!! I didn’t think you over reacted at all, in fact, you acted better than I would have!

She gave me a look and I just said, Hey, I guess today is no boundaries day right!?? She pulled her stuff out of my hand and went off in a huff. I heard some guy in the next isle say. That was epic!!

I like how you held the estate sale company accountable there. I think they are just as much in the wrong as the number 2 guy. Anybody with a lick of common sense knows that it’s always first come first serve at any sale. They should have had that situation resolved in 3 seconds by telling the number 2 guy to move on.

However, when that guy "tried you " I could tell in your tone you were not backing down for anyone. Good for you! Watching this 3 months after the incident. All I can say is RESPECT for the 2 of you. You did not escalate the situation, instead kept your cool and stood your ground for what was right. The other guy is the definition of entitlement and received a dose of reality. Could have been way worse for him had it been someone else.

WOW! I’m at a loss for words. But I would like to say, “DO NOT APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR ACTONS!” You stood up exactly as you should have. Under the circumstances, caught in the moment, you couldn’t have handled it any better. You set a fine example of standing up for the rights of a buyer at an estate sale. Personally, I’d reach out to Blue Moon’s corporate office and let them know so they can handle those employees. The oddest estate sale encounter I ever witnessed was something I actually have to begrudgingly respect. I saw a group of 3 very large men who were working together. They were each about 6'5, with fridge-like bodies. Their strategy was simple. Take up space. They moved together and would basically block off a section of the house. They could then look stuff over at their leisure without competition. I saw them block off an entire rather big walk in closet. Two of them were picking shirts while the third was looking them up.

Being angry with him can be used in different contexts . Like I was so angry at the situation myself that I was with him . Like the phrase "I'm with you brother" meaning I agree with you or have the same beliefs . Maybe it's because we come from different parts of the world . Different phrases can be used .
That was so unfortunate about the hat. If you see something you might want, get your hand on it and you have first dibs. You were completely in the right. We live in a time when people don't indiscriminately touch others. There's a big problem in our society in that, when they were kids, not enough people were told that it doesn't matter what they WANT.

I’ve noticed employees at some estate sales I’ve gone to give preference to customers/employees. One instance I went to an auction at an estate sale and I stayed because I saw they had pyrex dishes with a butter dish I wanted.
I waited as they were auctioning the items one at a time, and when the bid started on these pyrex dishes, nobody was betting on the dishes but me until one of their employees started to bid as well. I ended up paying more for them than I thought but the employee ended up taking one of the items in the bundle before giving the items to the cashier for pickup.
When I asked another employee what happened to one of the items, they just turned their heads and said if it wasn’t there it wasn’t there. They can’t do anything about it. I never went back to estate sales that were hosted by that company again.
So glad you got the three stripe!!! And he wanted all of them 😂 he is NUTS

Whiny entitled jerks don't get to pick and choose what they'd like at a sale. Being 2nd in line doesn't give you first dibs. Employees should have told him immediately you get to it first it's yours. No special treatment. That fella should have been booted from the sale (and future sales) the second he tried to grab the hat. There are so many reasons why that was ridiculous. Sometimes you miss out and someone else gets it. Sucks. Too bad. Move on. Lots of stuff to buy. I really hope Jr. looks back at his actions and realizes his mistake and grows from it. Otherwise have fun with him at future sales.
You guys were totally in the right. I had a similar experience recently, but with a car at an estate sale. About 10 minutes after the sale started, I approached the person running the sale, agreed on the purchase, handed the cash deposit ($1k), and then some guy starts going off that he was first in line and it should be his car, cussed us (seller and I) out, and went absolutely nuts. Seller held firm and sold me the car, and told the other guy being first in line doesn't entitle you to everything, it just allows you to have the earliest opportunity to see and buy, but it's basically whoever grabs it first gets it. Being semi-local (St Pete), Blue Moon is now a company I will actively avoid.
