- Wanted to share this build that is extremely cost effective. This little barn works great for up to 6-8 sheep in my opinion. All in budget was under 200. We are a small farm/hatchery located in Conroe Texas. truesouthlandfarm on instagram and our website is truesouthlandfarm.com Please let us know if you have any questions but overall this is a very simple build.
In the Northeast USA in the old days, they would build the chicken coops with a s 3:35 hed roof with the highest wall facing south and as many glass windows on that wall as they could afford. Solar heat from the light through the south windows kept the chickens pretty warm with no added heat. Also there was minimal northern wall exposure to northern winds. The long rectangular coops had short north walls like maybe only 3 feet (1 meter?) and tall south walls. There were some coops like that down the road from me when I was a child.. If heat is the problem, you could reverse the design to keep the chickens cooler, I think.. My dad's family kept chickens. He explained the design to me and why it worked. He himself was a carpenter and built some houses and he would wonder aloud if the idea could be used to help heat houses for humans. As a former baby sitter for human infants, I would worry that your animals might try to chew that pressure -treated lumber unless you cover it in some way.
Sheep won't chew the wood. They only have front teeth on the bottom, not the top. They use their lips to grasp & pick up food.
The metal itself would be over 200$ for tin even on marketplace where I’m at but I like the idea of
12 by 4 sheets go from 15-24.00 in our area but not sure what people sell them for in other cities/states. Can sometimes get them used in good condition fairly cheap
Is there a floor or do you use the ground ? I love this it's beautiful
You edged your metal roofing you said with something you got on Amazon, what is it called?

@@truesouthlandfarm thanks so much!
Can you show how you mounted the top pieces to the 4x4s?
We only used two by fours for this project. Just basic picked holes and two inch screws from the top
@@truesouthlandfarm how do you prevent screw from hitting each other on the 4 x 4s? thanks
@@drdwgmd14 I just don’t know why they would be hitting each other, you can contact me directly to clarify the question.
No just ground and hay, floor is a bad idea
Looks great. How much for the bay flooring ? Sorry I’m new to goats
Bought them on facebook marketplace for 14.00 each new
