    Wow, I am so impressed with how much forethought went into the barn before building! Everything makes so much sense! Like the stall door that fits to open two ways, that's just brilliant planning. Super impressed with your salvage skills too.
    I'm hoping to bring goats in soon. We have a barn on the property already, it was built for horses so we have three rather large stalls that we're going to retrofit for other animals. We just about have it cleaned out now, but our attention shifted to the garden and getting seeds started before its too late. Chicks arrive in about 8 days, my first livestock ever. I'm excited and nervous!

      Thank you! Eric has mad skills when it comes to planning and building. When I was sitting in my apartment in Portland, OR 10 years ago dreaming of moving back to Arkansas and homesteading, I never dreamed I would find such an incredible soulmate. I'm very excited for your chicks. You know they say that chickens are the gateway livestock. I hope to see videos of them coming soon!

    Great job on the expansion. Thank you for sharing. Only suggestion would be to turn down the volume on startup music.

    I love your barn! It's so well thought out and cost effective! You did a great job! Be careful pushing your pregos that are coming off grain a little. While it's not unheard of for them to pull off of grain in late stages of pregnancy sometimes it's an early sign of Ketosis. Not saying that's what that is at all, just something to watch for this late in their pregnancies! I always smell their breath to see if it smells sweeter than it should or test their urine with ketone strips from CVS. Always better to be safe than sorry :)! Keep up the good work! They are all so cute and healthy looking! I cannot wait for baby videos!!!!!

      Thanks for looking out for us! I'm keeping a close eye on her for that very reason. I give a mixture of chaffhaye and grain in the evening. I backed off her chaffhaye a bit and gave the same amount of grain. My thinking is the grain is more nutritious and, therefore, more important for her to finish. As I said, last year was our first kidding year and all went well so I'm still learning. If you see anything wrong with my reasoning, please let me know.

      Hoof & Hen Farm nope you’re right in pushing the grain! My wording was poor lol. She definitely needs the calories and nutrients from the grain to keep ketones out of her bloodstream. We keep Karo syrup and molasses on hand for drenching does since mine seem to hate the propylene glycol taste so much. Can’t remember if it’s 1 part molasses and 2 parts Karo or vice versa. But it pulls their caloric intake up. I wouldn’t sweat it unless she’s grinding teeth, dull eyed, or star gazing. Pearl I’m almost sure was going into Ketosis right before kidding. It’s so hard when they can’t just tell you what’s wrong. Ketosis always makes me paranoid around kidding time

      @@MulberryBranchFarm She doesn't seem to have any symptoms. She has gotten weird since she settled, though. She used to be a lurker. Every time I'd turn around, there'd be Rowena standing behind me waiting for petting. Now she wants nothing to do with me. I hope she gets back to her old self soon!

    I like your barn! I understand why you love it. I am building my goat barn (hopefully) this week. Using mostly reclaimed material and maybe some free pallets. It's not going to be as nice as yours, at least not right away. But so long as the goats like, I'll be happy.

    I just came across this channel and found it VERY informative. We have a small farm (chickens, ducks, garden) and are looking to expand to getting 2 female goats. We want to breed them and have dairy goats. Would you happen to have any tips or would be interested in making a video on that? We’ve watched a lot of videos on this subject, but have not found one on how to do this particular process. Thank you for your hard work!!!

      Thank you for your kind words. I'm not making many videos now because I've just been too busy. Being in front of the camera doesn't come naturally to me and I spend so much time editing. 😆 That being said, while I'm no expert, I'd be happy to try to answer your questions or point you in the direction of answers. You can send me an email or find me on FB at Hoof & Hen Farm.

    Looks great! Have major barn envy :) New to your channel, can't wait to see more. We have nubian and boer goats but they are at a 4h community barn until we can get some land. Do you keep your buck in the barn with the girls or have a separate barn?

    • @hoofhenfarm1151
      @hoofhenfarm1151  4 роки тому +3

      We have a separate barn in an adjacent lot. The boys' barn is currently just the 10 x 10 kennel with three metal sides, a roof, and a little interior house for our buck and his wether buddy. I'm glad you liked the video and thanks for subscribing!
