This a great "use what you've got " video. Yes we always think of what we would do differently..after it's done lol. I would say that adding some rain gutters you could collect water in a barrel for them..gravity fed. 👍😊❤🙏
Really like this set up for a small heard. When we get to that point now I have a neat shelter to show my honey how to build :) Thank y'all for sharing :)
nice, I am digging the goat layout. we have Kiko and they don't go in the barn much, late at night and when its raining hard, they will go in. some kid in the barn, some don't. I do bring the kids in if they kid in the pasture. one question, what is that white stuff out in the pasture?? we don't get that stuff very much in SC. we have big PVC pipe cut in half for feeding. I will have to show that in the next update on our channel. thanks for sharing.
Totally enjoyed that presentation. I have a new 6mo old male pygmy goat thinking of getting him a buddy, two is my limit. Thinking of building your idea but a bit smaller not as long. Just want them, to have the option wood floor with hay down and their sweet feed and minerals and water pale. Northern middle Tennessee winter can get pretty darn cold. Thx
I Love how y'all re-purpose and build everything using what you have! I've learned so much watching 👍 Hahahaha I think you have the only goats that don't mind bad weather 😆😆
Is it 24" o/c? A very easy build and looks to be good quality. Might be just what I need. My current setup is ugly because I used scrap metal I had and I'm ready to clean up my whole farm setup and make it look nice.
Cool! We built our own shelters from pallets for our goats. They’re 8x8 and work great so far. We’re building a barn this year before we start breeding them so we’ll have actual stalls
Rain, snow, floods...my goats don’t care either lol All I hear from people is how goats hate water and rain, but mine don’t care. They’ll wade right into deep puddles. I want to try a similar setup when we separate our bucks in the spring. Great video!
Perfect for them to go in, you can't force them in there. But shelter is for them lol. Having the wall gives more of a shelter from the weather. What no bloopers. Take care of you all. Thanks for sharing eh :))
Hello Jacob and Alex hope y'all are doing well. Great job 👍 on the 🐐 hut looks like a great place for the goat's to come into when needed. Prayers 🙏 and God's blessings. Much love and big tx hugs from South Tx.
Great video, it is good you are able to create your shelter with left over materials. Waste not want not. That feeding trough is a great idea. Do you not have anymore decking material with which you could expand the trough to your liking? Have a good day, God bless & take care.
Roberta Driver thank you. Yep, waste not want not. And we do have some more composite decking we could use, we just haven’t got a round to it quite yet. Lol
Hope the next time you get snow they will make use of the shelter. Your suggestions for improvements will be very helpful to someone who needs to build a shelter for their animals.
Yes, I keep hoping they’ll use this shelter, but they only go in there to eat when we feed them in there. Otherwise it can be pouring down rain and they’ll be standing up in the woods. Lol
Did your goats stay out in the snow last week? Like the front wall, it seems to have more protection than like Dutch’s. I don’t remember yours blowing over but, I remember showing his blown over. Keep those farm animals happy!
They stayed out in the snow last week. Didn’t bother them at all. And it was a different hutch that we built that blew over, not this one. This one is pretty heavy and has about 5-6 3’ long stakes in the ground. Lol 😄
It's great that you have those resources their on the farm. Never could tell. This would also work perfect for Nigerian Dwarf goats. (That's the breed I'm wanting to get for their milk.)
I know right?! Lol They’d rather stand up in the woods in the pouring down rain. Our last goats would run in there at the first sign of a rain, but not these Kikos.
👍👍👍. Just like you former owners left a lot of projects unfinished and tons of wood etc. Nails and screws all I needed to buy. Oh I learned from early mistakes but still was so grateful. I could spend money on better fencing. Those feeders made out great wood gonna last a long time. Just feed your small herd in there only for few weeks cus they not stupid when it comes to food. Feed them at your dinner table and they’ll come 😅😂🤣😂. Had 2 Arabian stallions come in to dining room for a magazine photo shoot for a Thanksgiving dinner.....so calm and beautiful with their teacup muzzle and arched necks. Now that’s crazy!!! Love all your tips on how to save and get job done. You’re an asset to all the beginning farmers. Keep doing what ya doing 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Bonnie Wooters thank you so much! That’s so cool about the horses. You can lead most farm animals anywhere with a bucket of food, I’ve found out. Lol 😄
I would insulate if I had one because it gets real cold here and that would help I think. For the trough what other types of wood could you use besides the wood you did? I would want something that is not expensive but good. I like the way you have your's so I may copy it to a point if I ever get my farm.
Wanna bigger one? Just add to the depth! Leave the center post, "scab on" some rafter extensions and maybe 2 more pieces of roofing and get 6 feet more depth. Move the front wall out and purdy much done
Love the video. We have 2 Pygmies and are learning every day. Sourcing a lot of materials from Facebook Marketplace. What are your thoughts on tearing up Palettes to build small structures?
How do yall keep the goats from sticking their heads threw the fence and getting stuck? We have a guy down the road who has goats and sheep and he is always having to cut fence to free goats.
Our fencing is 4” X 4”. Our big goats can not fit there heads through that. When we have kids they go through a stage where they will get stuck, but they quickly grow out of that.
I may have not seen the video but could you show how you made the hay rack? I've got two calves that I hate throwing their hay on the ground because they make a mess of it ( if you know what I mean😉). Have a great week!
Will the goats chew on composite decking? We had a big dog that gnawed on a corner of ours. Just wondered. Great work. Keeping all of you in my prayers
I say great job! Looks perfect! What is composite decking? Material? We, being retired...use what we have or can find on our homestead too...All Good Stuff!
Composite decking boards are made up of wood and plastic. The wood particles can be anything from sawdust, wood chips, and wood fiber pieces. The plastic components can be either virgin or recycled plastic materials.

Spreadsheet quickbooks or what. i am just starting, At first i was using excel but did not generate profit and loss statements that easy so giving quick books a try. Just wondering what everyone uses and if there is something better. great video
I honestly use the old fashioned way. I was having the same problem trying to figure out the best way to keep records. I remember asking around also, but then I just found out that getting a 3 ring binder and making separate tabs for each kind of animal was just as efficient. I have tabs for each kind of animal and also keep tabs for farm income and expenses (for tax reasons). I know this might not be much help, but that’s the way that I do it.

I have chickens and wanted to start having goats. I wasn’t exactly sure how to construct a shelter, so this video helped!
THANKS FOR SHARING ITS MY DREAM TO START THAT PROJECT
enjoy watching always like seeing the goats you use what you all ready had save on money God Bless.
Free materials always works!
Yep! 👍😃
At least you provide a place for the goats as that is awesome. Enjoyed and thanks.
Yes, they have the option if they choose. Lol
Thanks for watching! 👍😀
Some of the best projects are and were made with free and recycled material. Great job. Good lesson for the children as well. 👍

that is pretty good for the goats keep them warm and out of the rain and snow God bless u'all
Thank you! 😊
Good afternoon everyone. That’s a great goat barn. Cosy for them. 😊💞
I wish they’d use it more often. Lol Our goats are weird and would rather hang out in the rain than come under the shelter.
Great goat enclosure or lean to! You guys are really doing fantastic. Keeping you in my prayers for only good to come your way!
Thank you so much! 😊
hello...thanks for your video! is your goat hut just on dirt, or did you put any kind of base down first?
Nice set up for the goats...
Always good to refurbish!
Have a good day ☃️☃️☃️
Thank you! You too! 😊
Great job on the goat barn. Free is always good! Take care and God bless

Pretty clever design. Awesome it was built on the cheap. 👍
Thank you! Anytime we can build something for free or cheap, we’re happy! 👍😀
Great video. The shed looked pretty good and sturdy. That feed troughed looked great. Keep up the great work and God bless.

That’s a good looking shelter!

Cypress Blue sorry, no bloopers this go round. 😕
And yep, can’t force them in, but it’s always there if they change their mind. Lol
Still shocked on the no bloopers … teasing awesome job you both@@SawyerRidgeFarm
Excellent build! Feed trough is nice too! Good job Sawyer Ridge. 🤩
marvetta_ thank you! 😊👍
Good video brother. Good job on the potential improvements that can be made.

Nice little hut.

I was looking at doing something like this with spare 2x4's and some pallets for a makeshift floor to keep it super cheap. nice

Good info. Your goats must think of the forest as their home. Maybe they’re like people who won’t leave their home when a hurricane is forecasted.
Jeanne L they really love being up in the woods, even in the rain and snow. Strange animals. Lol
Thanks for sharing 🐐🐐
Great job...thanks for the info
Free materials! The best!

Sawyer Ridge Farm, the cedar trees make good umbrellas. Maybe that's why they stay in the woods.

It's great that you have those resources their on the farm. Never could tell. This would also work perfect for Nigerian Dwarf goats. (That's the breed I'm wanting to get for their milk.)

@@SawyerRidgeFarm Anytime really like it was recycled material!
It’s crazy that the goats don’t use that cozy shelter you made them! 😜

Love the intro song! Great explanation!

ty for all you are doing keep it up
Thank you for all your support! 👍😀
Great vid👍 you could always extend that same shelter out another 3'-6' no need to tear it down or build a whole new shelter👍 peace to Sawyer Ridge
Yes, we thought about maybe extending it someday when we have more goats.

Love watching in next 2 weeks we building a chickens coops they be 3 or 4 small coop . For chickens I would keep breed chicken apart.
You guys make me yes I can dont gave up THANK YOU
Hey Jacob, that's a cool goat hut👍!
We used the decking to line the wood pile, the wood would rot terrible .
JO JO IN VT 💕☃ 😊
Joanne Ganon that’s a great idea! 👍😀
You can still extend it by the way you made it. Sheep act the same way when getting fed.
We thought about extending it somehow when we get our goat herd up to about the size we want it.
Great hutch for free!!!
I may have not seen the video but could you show how you made the hay rack? I've got two calves that I hate throwing their hay on the ground because they make a mess of it ( if you know what I mean😉). Have a great week!

if you have a heat lamp in with your goat you must monitor it because the are known for playing around and breaking the bulb and that could be bad!
Cut the back out and put hinges on it. So in the summer it can be opened and the winter closed. But besides that, nice work...
Great idea! Thanks! 👍
Jacob, isn't it a possiblity to ad on to the hut? Love these educational video's 💜💙💜
