During the recent Stop Making Sense Q&A it was mentioned that Jonathan Demme attended Talking Heads shows beforehand. Then Chris Frantz told a story about how Demme was reshooting Swing Shift because (according to Frantz) Hawn didn't like how the first cut came out and made Demme reshoot half the movie at the same they were working on Stop Making Sense. So, Frantz basically told this story to say Jonathan Demme would have seen more of their shows at the time if it wasn't for Goldie Hawn being unreasonable.
I agree it's not a good review. Jonathan Rosenbaum had a much more convincing negative review when he wrote that the film is technically masterful but he couldn't condone it morally because it's basically serial killer worship. Siskel tries and fails to criticize it on moral grounds when he says "the horrors of female abuse are too much with us to be trifled with anymore in the movies" (whatever that means). And tries and fails to criticize it as a genre exercise when he unfavorably compares it to Henry: POASK. It's not clear whether he's criticizing the film or the material the film is based on.
@@dwhartwickThere's been several serial killers with above average or genius level IQs. Ted Kaczynski (the unabomber) had an IQ of 167, higher than Albert Einstein.
Siskel sounds like he's describing the "Henry" movie, which was a total depressing downer I thought, and then he advises to watch it instead(??)If you ever want to watch something that you will never want to see again, and constantly checking to see if your doors and windows are locked:see it.....
Sorry to speak ill of the dead, but I lost all respect for these guys when I found out what they did to Betsy Palmer after Friday The 13th. It's one thing to condemn someone for doing a movie you don't respect, but publicizing her address in the hopes people will harass her? What if some deranged individual had decided to do more than send hate mail? What if they actually paid her a visit? 2 big thumbs down to these fellas, wherever they ended up.
@@clash79Yeah it was Siskel, in a print review. He didn't publish her full address, just the name of the town she lived in - but it was still a big jerk move.
One of the best examples of those two being great. Thx for this compilation. I never knew Demme did half these pictures
yes! this is the best series. thanks for continuing to make these!!!! you rock!!!!!!

Did Hawn explain why?
I want to see Henry: Portrait of a Sillier Killer now.
It’s hardcore af, and not made to be entertaining. Totally worth watching…just don’t expect fun
Keep going with these!!!! How about Cronenberg? Scorsese? Walter Hill?👍

Siskel’s review of Silence of the Lambs is laughable.

Nah, he nailed it.
Siskel made a good point about Lecter being an unconvincing serial killer. Serial killers aren’t geniuses.

Ed Kemper too. His IQ was measured at 145 during one testing.
Liked and SUBBED! "Demme" closed the deal for me 😊

Henry and Kalifornia feature the best serial killers in film history.
I would love to see a Siskel and Ebert story movie or limited tv serial
Can you put timestamps on these?

I believe that was Siskel, specifically. Could be wrong though

Just want to be number 30
Last Embrace started off strong and then it goes nowhere. John Glover and Christopher Walken are underutilized.
The films of Steven Segal😂 would be nice
Silence of the lambs is one of the best films ever made, Siskel's take was awful!!!
