Cool video but if you apply logic to the statement, “ the girth doesn’t effect the respiratory system, but they do effect thoracic dimensions. If the thoracic dimension is made smaller they cannot fully fill or expand their lungs. Meaning that their respiratory system IS affected.
This was SUCH good info and well presented! My experience is not all that notable, but I'll share anyways. About 3 months ago I bought Total Saddle Fit Shoulder Relief StretchTec girths (because we eventers have to have at least 2 of everything, 1 for jumping and 1 for flat). While I'm not sure they are actually making my horse go any better, they certainly aren't making her worse LOL. She is a young, green horse that is steadily improving, so it's hard to know whether the girth is making a difference or whether she is just making strides in her conditioning and education (pun intended!). After a few months with the girths, I've also become a bit wary of the StretchTec version--I'm worried about the risk of overtightening with the elastic. I think I'm outside the window of time to exchange for the regular version though.
It's definitely a possibility with more elastic in girths, the chances of over tightening is higher. However, the fact that you are aware and conscientious of over tightening your girth, definitely gives you an advantage where you most likely are not. Horses are not perfect circles, so it's always a safe bet to check your girth tension under their chest as well as in the traditional spot below where it attaches to the billets. But if you're aware of it and regularly checking, you're doing alright!
Super cool video, though I do agree with your conclusion I would take any research by a company highlighting the benefits of their products with a grain of salt. And one thing I have noticed with most equine studies is that they have small sample sizes. Now larger studies are very expensive, but it’s hard to say that the results from 20 horses can be applied to all horses of all breeds and sizes. But thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into these videos, they are amazing!
Oh i totally agree, it's so hard to look at only 20 horses and try to apply it to the broad spectrum of horses. I do it in this instance because it's the only research available for products constantly claiming to be backed by research. I would love for there to be dozens more studies to look at!

Exactly!

I do think my barrel racing gelding likes my total saddle fit cinch. Trying to buy a girth for my mare but can't afford :(
I feel your pain! I understand why they cost so much, but the struggle is real
this is so cool! Thanks for you're research
Another brilliant video! I have just bought a new girth for my dressage saddle and have gone with an anatomical one 🙌🏻
