For noobs who don't understand the lingo:
"Mex/Mexes" - Short for 'Mass Extractor', the standard mass-generating structure.
"P-Gen" - Power Generator
"T1,T2,T3" - Tech Tiers 1, 2, and 3. Specific units and buildings are locked behind distinct Tech Tiers which individual factories need to be upgraded to achieve and which corresponding Engineers are needed to construct.
"ASFs" - Air-Superiority Fighters
"Reclaim" - Destroyed units or structures leave behind mass that can be mined or Reclaimed by a Commander or Engineer. In longer games, the amount of mass which can be Reclaimed from battlefields can be the difference between victory and defeat.
what does the mass do?
@@jera1376 There are two resource types: Mass and Energy.
Mass is used to build basically everything and energy is used to build and power structures and units.
Mass is normally mined out of the ground. You can see mass collection locations by the green symbols on the map. Players build Mass Extractors on them to collect Mass like Vespene Gas in Starcraft.
@@jera1376 its also worth mentioning both are used on a per-second basis. So you can spend more mass than you're taking in without issues, until you run out of what you have stored
Not all heros wear capes. Figured all these but ASF out (knew it was a fighter... air superiority should have been a no brainer)
What is Afk? Cannot find the definition anywhere thanks
From now on ZLO should always start with a 30 second handicap , makes for far more entertaining matches ;P
Some great game sense there from Zlo, the way he didn't try to match Noob's offensive pound for pound, but gave up a little land, and then turned his base clockwise on the map, and was seeking favorable trades rather than wins.
He also sacrificed some of his fighters when he really needed to buy a few seconds of time, by landing them in the middle of the fight. That's such a Starcraft move, sending your probes in to tank for you.
"sacrificing my planes by landing them in the middle of the fight" usually i do that only when my ACU is getting killed by land... this time it was probably accidental
I didn't even notice the last video did as well as it did. Guess all them algorithm comments finally paid off (and frankly the thumbnail was pretty noice, definitely caught my eye). Edit: very succinct welcome wagon message for any newbies as well. You continue to be a solid creator.
Now that you mention it, I only found the channel recently too, not sure if the last video up was the first or not but I've been watching loads since. Known about SupCom for ages though, love the game, would also love an HD Remake, just to freshen it up a bit
@@Sweenus987 that would be amazing but unfortunately the gaming industry seems to have moved away from real time grand strategy
channel got shown to me 3 days ago out of the blue! Happy it did though. Been a Supreme Commander fan for a long time and watching several videos of Gyle a day :)
@@Nautules83 welcome aboard! I really recommend downloading forged alliance forever if your keen on seeing just how fun the game is these days.
The thumbnail was rather good. A strong thumbnail game is a good way to bring in viewers.
Gyle is one of those rare channels where I click like before I watch the video :D
I've been playing SupCom casually for 13 years, and it never occurred to me until this last week that there might be casts for matches. Very entertaining - subscribed!
you are in the right place here :)
Discovered your channel from the mighty algorithm shenanigans , I was playing Sup com a looong Time ago and it's awesome seeing more competitive players and your channel still going well.
-25:38 As a kid playing this game when it first came out, I always wondered how the tanks and walkers had worked and just assumed that they had people telephoned or something. In campaign missions, I would always turn civilian buildings to me and protect all of them regardless of mission objectives lol
RIP to hubby and never seeing his curtains. Hope his wife is OK, think of all the widows this game produces.
i always thought they were more like AI than human controlled??
@@Dragor699 Do we need to worry when the AI starts home decorating?
It's okay, they're all robots!
Only recently started watching these videos (I think the first one was an epic) and I would absolutely love an episode for beginners like me that don't understand the game but are mesmerized by it!
I agree, I don't know a thing about this game (I saw the first epic on the recommended) but I love the semplicity and those huge armies clashing each other, so an explaining video of the mechanics would be awesome
Watch Heaven or Brnkoinsanity tutorials
Go watch this one. It's awesome:
SUPREME COMMANDER EPIC 44 - Setons #15 - Custom 4v4
Visually speaking, very few games are as beautiful to spectate as SupCom.
Planetary Annihilation (made by the same guys as the original SupCom IIRC) is even prettier, but sadly sacrificed a lot of strategic depth in order to make spherical planets work.
Star Wars: Empire At War, Warhammer, Age of Empires, etc. are all very pretty, but you don't get full control of the camera. You can't just zoom in and out from the entire map to a single unit at will, and you can't change your viewing angle so that you are seeing exactly what a foot soldier would see.
Starcraft is very visually engaging, but due to the fast paced gameplay you don't have the luxury of zooming in to appreciate the action. Lots of micro and tactical depth, but little to no time for strategic depth. It's the exact opposite of Supreme Commander, where the strategic depth punishes getting distracted by too much micro.
@@r3dp9 AOE 2 DE can zoom in quite close now but yes you cant move the camera like you can on this game
Your commentary heavily reminds me of the late Total Biscuit. His casting of SC2 was god teir and I miss him so much. Thanks for filling that void at least a little bit.
Same. I wonder if he wouldn't have gotten burned out if he had started casting FAF. The level of strategy, especially on large multiplayer maps, leave a LOT of room for shennanigans.
Yo I really like the thumbnail! Good work!
Did not expect to find you here lol.
I'm slowly learning. Apparently thumbnail is important... lol
Usually I'm the one to receive these sortsa messages, but cool to see you watching SupCom (and Gyle, for the matter)
Kibitz watches FAF ? What is this
@@GBRxEvolution I recently found out that he used to make supreme commander videos which surprised me as well.
i've started playing faf and i'm 1100 rank on global and 600 on ladder and you sir Gyle is to blame, thank you, I got really excited when I seen this video being realised, got the popcorn out here about to watch, keep the great content comming sir!
Just found this channel and binged a few games.
Supreme Commander was a favourite of mine back when it came out (in the days of 'you can use a second monitor for the map, gasp!')
Happy to hear a fellow brit on UA-cam too. It shouldn't surprise me, but it always does 😅.
Convinced a friend to pick up FA when we both get paid (as I'm skint at the mo) and we are going to check out FAF for the coop campaign!
u can still use a second monitor, but with a workaround. its all explained in forum or in a video from heaven
@@certaindeath7776 it was more that it was quite amazing back then as not a lot of people gamed with two 😊
Can't believe so many watch last weeks video! hopefully the community continues to grow, good job casting as always
Ur avatar looks like a guilotinne
Great game! I just imagine happy engineer noises as all that reclaim comes falling out of the sky in front of them at 40:15
You should run a "Simple cast" where you cover general strategy, why they are doing things, build orders, their unit choices, etc.
@Gyle; I really enjoy your videos; I think I've been watching for 7 or 8 years now :p never commented, but ok. I always take out a beer and see a match. Thanks for making those FAF commentaries
Throwing in little tid bits of game knowledge here and there as you do the cast is probably the most effective way to educate your viewers. Even those of us who play the game might not know everything about it. :)
outdatednoob is a really great name.
Thrilled to see how the last cast went view wise gyle! I try to comment something on each one to give that little boost for the algorithm:)
I have always loved this game. Glad to see its still alive and kicking
ZLO winning this rate at GYLE cast, he's going to be a hero! And always great to see ZLO play :)
When i realized all of your videos were supreme commander i subscribed. You are my official supreme commander go to now
After reading that description, I made sure to hit like right away.
Haha yep with me the same ^¢
we all have balls
the descriptions are as much a piece of Gold as the Gyle commentaries, i always get a good chuckle lol.
and you know not everyone bothers to scroll down this far, so it feels like a 'hidden gem'.
Made me read it and I got a good laugh.
I'm glad the youtube algorithm brought me here, it's gotten me and my friend playing again thanks to the FAF client.
27:02 i notha leaves base and goes to top river. outdated noob has about 163 mass income.. i think it was there whole time until 28:17 until it was killed ... apparently by t2 trans or by some ground based AA
about same 28:26 1 notha at the bottom kills t1 mex and flyes around and at 29:06 you can see another notha goes from the top side and also kills t1 mexes
29:30 bottom notha dies, second one only dies at around 29:59 and income is now 139...
31:05 nothas killed 4 mex on right island, cruisers finished top island AND another notha goes to the back already 108 income... not sure if he was stalling or not, then it is up to 152 and down to 131 at 32:15
Then cruiser finnaly started killing his t2 mexes and then i was way ahead... nothas did alot there imho, that is what i wanted to say.
Imagine a game of Starcraft where you could afk for a minute and still play.
i mean if a pro was playing me then no problem
@@fearan9406 from elo ranking of them its like a grand master playing against a national Master
that's true, but starcraft is more about making the game work. It's a fight from the moment you say go to just get the game to do what you want it to do. Even extra micro put in to make it harder for the game to do what you want it to do.
In this series of games, it's about the strategy you want to do more than doing it. You can sit back with an APM of 15 and win a game. So long as your plan is good. The game helps you do it more then gets in your way like starcraft.
SC2 during WoL maybe? Lol.
@@blakemerrithew9162 starcraft makes a mockery of the term "strategy". The entire game's mechanics was designed around micromanagement. Imagine if a platoon leader have to individually separate his infantry when someone throws a grenade and that's starcraft is.
Starcraft also has no "comeback mechanism" which helps someone who is behind pull the situation back in their favor. SupCom's reclaim is one of the best design decisions in the RTS genre (though not as good as Total Annihilation when wrecks blocked pathfinding and allowed you to execute some real WW2 style tank ambushes).
I am a humble noob who has just started to play, thanks for introducing me to this, keen to learn / get smashed
Outdated noob kept pursuing the same tactic, no adaption. ZLO building that cruiser navy is perfect example of adapting to the enemy.
Zlo (Зло) means Evil, btw.
Once again, props for the video description!
Great work from ZLO, making sure the replays Gyle gets aren't all the ones we're used to seeing ;-)
First video from this channel lets fuckin go. I have no idea what to expect going into this, I've never played Supreme Commander but I'm a casual fan of Spirit of The Law.
Alright so the video is over. Really exciting and fun, but took awhile to spin up. I think the general mechanics were explained *just enough* for me to get it, but of course I have an RTS background so it's more like just related my knowledge to this game. The casting was really good. I felt like I had a general idea of the game state pretty much the entire time. All together a really good video and worth the youtube recommendation.
Seems like a lot of new people in the comments. That's awesome both Gyle and FAF deserves more people!
The fact that you still Cast matches makes me so happy
I should be used to watching Gyle by now but invariably there are moments in every cast where my mouse is hovering over a battle desperately wanting to ping it for him to take notice.
Buyed the game today because of the great Videos. 10/10 would do it again
i loved SUP COM (not number 2 though) thank you for doing this, its such a callback to my early college days
algorithm got me here. big fan of planetary annihilation. this games mutated cousin.
PA was really really pretty, but once I found out how much strategic depth had been cut, I couldn't go back. No reclaim, no T3, no factions. I really miss the spherical planets though.
I went the other way, playing Supreme commander long ago got me in too planetary annihilation.
Gyle's FAF comentary somehow appeared on my "reccomended" list some time ago. I was like "I haven't played Supreme Commander in years, let's check it". And... it was good. So good that I'm watching my ~20th reply right now, installed Forged Alliance (single player for now ;) ). Wow. The community, the commentary, the game itself... It's neat.
I'm one of the newbies, I never play RTS and don't really play games at all, but played Total annihilation when I was young. I'm getting really addicted to these though - mainly because the commentary is really really good. Nice work mate, interesting game and community :)
If you're new here I recommend watching on 1.25x speed. Makes these hour-long matches much more exciting.
I play at 1.5x. Gyle's voice is even more engaging at this speed.
@@nicolaw6829 I tried that but it's a bit harder for me to keep up at that speed.
After I discovered 1.25x speed, my youtube experience completely changed.
@@r3dp9 I also use it to watch Stellaris and the rare Sins of a Solar Empire match. Talk about slow games.
@@synthetic240 who do you watch for Sins?
I'm so glad that your videos are getting more views. I recently got back into replays after several years of being distracted with other things. I was so glad to find you still plugging along with your casts. I just miss ZaphodX. I wonder what happened to that bloke.
i cant even find ZaphodX channel anymore, there was a few SupCom vids he did that i liked. im guessing he deleted the channel too.
he moved from SupCom to do Planetary Annihilation vids, and was probably the biggest caster for that game for a couple years.
When I was young a dev from the studio came to my parents restaurant. Told him I liked command and conquer and he gave me a card for a thing called “supreme commander” checked the website once a week till it came out. Played a lot of it but only single player. The algorithm helped me find you and I never got to play supreme commander online since I didn’t play at that age online. Very interested in a “tutorial/strat” video esp some of these designs these chaps use. I think at this rate I’ve watched 15 of your videos already in a week. Most likely picking up the game soon as a result. Love the community aspect. Is this noob friendly online as far as the community?
Check out some older videos about this game on the channel of Heaven. He has some great tutorials. Community is semi friendly.
There's a healthy mix of friendly folks and a-holes. On FAF there's almost always a couple "Noobs welcome" games being hosted. But be warned, welcome means you may join. There's usually at least one person who thinks he's amazing and you should be too, even if its your third game ever.
I highly recommend the Forged Alliance Forever discord for your first games. People are usually a lot more helpful and friendly over voicechat, especially if you are upfront about being a new player. The fastest way to learn is to get coached by a teammate.
You will get treated differently as a noob. Some lobbies are made just for noobs to play against noobs, some welcome everybody, and some don't let noobs in (especially if doing so would ruin the game balance). My rating hovers around a measly 600, but I still have plenty of fun.
There is one thing worse than being a noob: being a new player. If you're account has less than 30 multiplayer games, people will be skeptical of you. Are you *really* a noob? Or a high ranking player on an alt? Are you a troll that got banned recently? Once you've played at least 30 games, people will be a lot friendlier even if you're a noob, because then at least your an experienced noob.
God I didn't think the community was still alive, I remmeber playing this game as a kid and buying it at E.B games
I see Zlo - I click.
Can click here then
Well played man. Great game.
Got back into FA and jumped into ladder on FAF because of your channel. 4 wins out of 4 games played so far! :D (The one I was losing the other guy dc'd xD)
Hey saw ur channel first time a few weeks back, youtube gods are definetly broadening your viewer base, would loved to have seen your vids years back!
check out the game!
you need to buy forged alliance (FA) standalone on steam for a dollar or so (soon there will be halloween sale), then install FAF Client, and set it up, cause vanilla FA is not maintained since long, but FAF (forged alliance forever) is updated and managed by community.
Yeah the bump must have been the thumbnail. Good job 😄👍
Really nice game zlo play it really good. And Gyle do a perfect job with the commentary.
14:40 The Seraphim gun upgrade is chronotron accelerator, and the splash upgrade is refracting chronotron amplifier. Not to be confused with the Aeon chrono dampener.
Damn some better names are in order
You made me and a friend get into this FAF thing. Tbh a little info on how to get it setup would be interesting, we tried for an hour to find where to download the actual mod content until we realized we need to start a game for that to download itself. Or we are just stupid, who knows.
Hey, Gyle! Not to hound you, but I’m really looking forward to your US 2020 Election special. Great cast and can’t wait for more!
Hey man just joined FAF and am loving atm
Very fun to see the last video doing as good as it did
thanks Gyle for the videos it helped me decide on if i wanted to get supreme commander fa and i am glad i did cause its a lot of fun even though i am a total noob at it i hope ill at least put up a fight against some of these top tier players
Keep it up bro, always putting good stuff out mate
nice to watch 1v1 challenging matches, revealing player's skills
You know what. I've wrote to the developers & the publishers asking if they're open to releasing a Supreme Commander 3, based on the Supreme Commander + FA expansion. Not that dumbed down bollocks Sup Com 2 was. I'm yet to get a reply from anyone to be honest with you, but I will still keep sending those emails & letters.
I love this game. I love playing the 40k maps 7v1 without tech 3 & superweapons, because I love to be bogged down in dirty fighting & the grind. I have had a few games with people & it didn't go well for me. I'm far too slow & relaxed to be competitive. I like the build up bases, defences & then work out how to break the enemy down.
For a game 13+ years old, I still play it far more than some titles less than 2 yrs old.
Great game, very interesting. I think OutdatedNoob was just a bit too aggressive for his own good, he kept drip-feeding units in with nothing in reserve to reinforce success or blunt a counterattack. And Zlo traded space for time excellently.
Supreme commander Only has one game with an expansion. The other one is an abomination and needs to be purge.
This was a pretty good game, I think the only one that was better is the one with Raid Shadow Legends, the hit online rpg game.
>Raid Shadow Legends, the hit online rpg game.
what?

Looks like the "headstart" of noob was an gentlemens agreement between those 2 to even the score. :D
the thumbnail game is important in the youtube meta, you doing good
This was painfully enjoyable to watch. Very good commentary! Watching this makes me wish I wasn't so God awful at this game... Lol
Your last video was your first video that got recomanded to me. and I like the content and subscribed! So Hi! I'm new!
Welcome!
That first little red dude was beaten cheeks across that field. No idea what’s going on but I enjoy watching reminds me of a primordial homeworld game.
This was a great game! :)
As a new subscriber I'm happy to see that Supcom is still being played, been many years since I looked at it and glad I found this channel. Noob friendly advise I would like to hear about is what is the decision making about mex upgrade timings/amount to upgrade. I know that was always a holdup for me when I played the game as I would idle my whole eco just to upgrade mex's to t2 or t3. Thanks for the content!
it depends on map and slot you are playing in team games. there are useable eco guides from heaven (alongside a lot of other guides):
ua-cam.com/video/h-GzOhDQwA8/v-deo.html
Actually I own the game and FA since forever and only as of now I saw the stream coming up. Got me a bit excited tbh. Really liked the game and never had the sucessor it deserved. Planetary Annihilation did not work out as I thought it would for me. So - greetings from germany, really like your VODs.
That goddamn description gets me every time
Quite a bit of foreshadowing for the plot twist at the start being a whole minute late.
Damn, this was a pretty good game. I'd be really interested in some commentary directed at new/low-level players, as a very casual Forged Alliance player.
Can confirm the n00b game part: I've done it myself a couple of times (although wouldn't consider myself a noob anymore)
Asking for likes really works. Don't feel bad about doing it, increasing your audience helps with raising funds for supreme comtent. Everybody wins.
If you want some tips on how to cast to people unfamiliar with the game, check out Indrid's Dawn of War 2 casts. He does a great explaining units and mechanics during the game in a non-obtrusive way.
One firing inland one firing out and aboutland
Still the most advanced RTS after over 10 years!
Also one the most poorly optimized.
Can we just talk about how the seraphim commander looks like those mechs in EDF
Years ago I had sent a replay, and I'm a little bummed you never got to it, but this match reminds me of it. It was a 3v3 match. I forget what map, but my com was being built up in a full combat role and led the winning charge like the general of a grand army.
But it was all noobs so it probably wasn't very interesting to watch other than that.
Late to this cast, just started watching. I hope ZLO finally stopped drinking too much vodka and wont suck this round.
as ive watched a lot and play a lot of AOE 2 for years you tube has realized that I like RTS games, i do have this game and do play it from time to time, should try some online some time.
also new sub for you sir
Fantastic game, very entertaining
The last video got so many views in part because the thumbnail was so intriguing.
I'm here for the exquisite english commentary
Starcarft 2 got nothing over this game other than the marketing wing of Blizzard
I just thought of something, imagine if for a tournament or something a bunch of SupCom players went back and played some games in the old Total Annihilation and it was casted by Gyle. I doubt it'll ever happen but it's a fun idea.
Yes 👍 do a info dump it looks like a great game but it does look like a lot
Also for the lingo - how about adding some explanations in subtitles/captions for harder terms/first usage of the word, for example - lab as light assault bot, mex - mass extractor, then people will be able to know what you are talking about without needing a special video.
I like to watch slow death by aggressive play :-)
I played total annulation back in the day, I'm really glad that the game has survived
For those who want to play this game for the first time: I recommend the campaign (especially from the first SupCom if you like the lore). You learn the game better than if you just jump into ladder
Yeeee boi thats what i was waiting for!
What a great match, this is some good shit. I just get drunk and watch these games and get hyped as shit. My buddies and I are making a drinking game of it now for the team matches as well.
Finally back in Action :3
Pls keep it going :)
Waiting a minute could be an interesting way to handicap yourself/lower your rating. Maybe ZLO did it intentional?
Great cast!
Seems likely ZLO has some kind of vision hack. At around 5 minutes he builds a single tank and sends it on a precise intercept course for the single marine. That would be quite a guess if he doesn't have some kind of map vision hack.
And around 17:45 he pulls back his gunships despite the fact they were dominating. He obviously knew the anti-air fighters were there even though he had no vision of them in the game. Or shouldn't have.
He probably does anticipate a lab, since it's very common to send one on this map. If you watch Jagged Appliance casting high level games, he points all this stuff out. It's amazing how much they anticipate each other in the openings.
@@michaelosborne9279 Well, if you say so. :)
@@someguy5977 it is very common to send something to that back "pocket" i knew that i am very behind and i kinda need to make sure to at least get that back expansion... usually i would send tank to protect engy that goes to other 4 mexes and have scouts see if something running trought mid...
about gunships... i don't remember. i know that i didn't have time to micro them so u put them on patrol, that is why half of them retreated, if they are patrolling in range of airstaging they automaticly go to reapair... those 4 gunships that have pulled back.. idk i think i just didn't want to fight with only small force of gunships and pulled those back.... i don't really remember anything for sure there tho... i actually didn't notice that my tank kinda was pretty well timed there early on... i guess i was lucky... but i did know that i need to build an earlyer tank just cause i was behind
I get chills every time I hear that DOOOOONG at the FAF flag XD
