What a great match this was, i was only fourteen years old. I was playing football with some friends, then came back home to watch this match. It's probably the best game of the 1986 WC.
We've had a "predictions game" at the village house, during summer holiday, with my cousins and my uncle. Everyone predicted before the match, that Brazil will be the winner. Only I predicted France will win. Everyone laughed at me. 😅 After the end, I was the one who laughed. 😂 My uncle was so impressed by my winning prediction that he bought me a brand new ⚽ the next day! My very first memory of a World Cup game. I was 5-6, watching the game at some friends' house. At the end when France won, it was madness, people screaming of joy. That game changed my life. I was 6 and it's my really first memory of a complete football match on TV. My parents were ok because it was almost the end of school. Fantastic atmosphere and colours on TV, magical names ("Careca", "Socrates", "Branco"...), spectacular actions and shoots, and brilliant saves by Bats, my hero along with Platini. Even my mother who hated football came and watched the second half and extra time with us. I'll remember forever my father who shout and almost cried after Platini missing ("Oh non, mais c'est pas possible!!!"). And finally the victory... For this day, I was in love with football, and particularly with the World Cup.

What an amazing goal he scored against the USSR and the commentary I loved was from an English commentator, it was summed up perfectly as certain things are never forgotten even though I was 8 years old at the time. Then the beautiful goal against Italy with that same commentator just seemed to add that extra touch of magic to go with such an excellent footballer. RIP Dr. Socrates your magic lives on with what you had done.

Coincidence or not, this game, still by February 2022, has been the last World Cup game with a Romanian referee(main or assistant). Despite this, in 1995, the Champions League final had Romanian refereeing brigade.
I was 16 years in Bukavu( sud-kivu) East of DRCongo( zaire) 1986 when we wactched this match with my 8 friends who supported Brazil and two (me) and another friend supported france. This match is unforgettable for me. When Fernandez shoot the last penalty i remember the way we cried. no, no i don't know how to explain this event. MEXICO86 remain one of my best wordCup.
My favourite game ever - watching it as a 10 year old in Scotland, my friend and I decided to adopt France because they wore blue. Brazil perhaps were more dominant but one has to remember that France were playing in the Central American heat so were disadvantaged - think the game kicked off at around noon Mexico time. Great players on both teams, tremendous drama - glad I was there to witness it.

Our culture, of course, is closer to South and Central America, but in geographical terms, Mexico is located in North America. Real HEAT the one that had to be faced in Monterrey (another venue of the World Cup), but Guadalajara has a very nice weather. And France, in their Mediterranean coast they also have very hot weather as well (plus humid).

The stellar Brazil of Tele Santana, rock-solid Germany that just always made it to the final stages, Italy's balls of steel and anybody's nemesis, Diego's Argentina (or just Diego..), France and her "football champagne", the Netherlands resuscitating the clockwork orange...all the greats were there, each of them leaving and indelible mark in the space of a decade. The Golden Age, 'nuff said.

@@shahrulamar5358 Yes I was aware of that, What will remain with me all my life is his greatness during the 1982 world Cup as he was sublime to say the least. What an amazing goal he scored against the USSR and the commentary I loved was from an English commentator, it was summed up perfectly as certain things are never forgotten even though I was 8 years old at the time. Then the beautiful goal against Italy with that same commentator just seemed to add that extra touch of magic to go with such an excellent footballer. RIP Dr. Socrates your magic lives on with what you had done.

I was 16 years in Bukavu( sud-kivu) East of DRCongo( zaire) 1986 when we wactched this match with my 8 friends who supported Brazil and two (me) and another friend supported france. This match is unforgettable for me. When Fernandez shoot the last penalty i remember the way we cried. no, no i don't know how to explain this event. MEXICO86 remain one of my best wordCup.

My favourite game ever - watching it as a 10 year old in Scotland, my friend and I decided to adopt France because they wore blue. Brazil perhaps were more dominant but one has to remember that France were playing in the Central American heat so were disadvantaged - think the game kicked off at around noon Mexico time. Great players on both teams, tremendous drama - glad I was there to witness it.

Glad to read your comment and that you have such fond memories about the WC which took place in my country, but just to clarify, MEXICO IS NOT IN CENTRAL AMERICA. Our culture, of course, is closer to South and Central America, but in geographical terms, Mexico is located in North America. Above the Parallel 16 North, North America starts (many people, mistakenly, believe that NA is only the USA and Canada). Just as a reference and to put it on perspective, 52% of our territory was blatantly and cowardly stolen by the USA in 1848, and if 1/3 of the current USA territory was formerly part of Mexico, then does not that make them "Central America" as well?
@@rustshoo5068 Heat? In Guadalajara? Dude, I am Mexican and I can tell you Guadalajara has a wonderful weather. Real HEAT the one that had to be faced in Monterrey (another venue of the World Cup), but Guadalajara has a very nice weather. And France, in their Mediterranean coast they also have very hot weather as well (plus humid).
France wasn’t playing in Central America because Mexico was and is still in North America. Look at a map.

When magicians were called Maradona, Platini, Zico, Van Basten, Gullit, Falcao, Socrates, Matthaus, Rumenigge, Conti, Baggio...facing hard as nail warriors that went by the names of Baresi, Scirea, Gentile, Kohler, Brehme, Augenthaler, Trésor, Koeman, Vierchowood, young Maldini already..
The stellar Brazil of Tele Santana, rock-solid Germany that just always made it to the final stages, Italy's balls of steel and anybody's nemesis, Diego's Argentina (or just Diego..), France and her "football champagne", the Netherlands resuscitating the clockwork orange...all the greats were there, each of them leaving and indelible mark in the space of a decade.
