Happy sock knitting 🧦🧶♥️😚👌🏻

This is the best tutorial podcastI have seen. So much work has gone into this. I could not ask for anything more. I am now casting on my second ever pair of socks with confidence. Thank you
I've been wanting to try a heel flap and gusset cuff down sock. Up to now, I knit toe up with a Fish Lips Kiss Heel. This seems pretty easy! :-) Love the tutorial! My only critique to offer if any is to use a different font and possibly put a slight background behind it to make the notes easier to read.
Thank you so much for the feedback! Kindly, Melody ♥️🧦✨
Just wanted to say that 2020 is indeed my "Year of the Sock" thanks to your and other lovely people's tutorials online. I was set to visit my family for the first time since moving overseas just as corona virus cancelled all of our flights and plans, and was shattered I couldn't go home and learn how to make socks from my mother. Thanks to this, and others, I've finished my 3rd pair now, all of which fit, and I'm thrilled to have accomplished my goal. Thanks again, and I hope you're staying well.
Melody, I'm very impressed that when you add the second colour yarn, you just start knitting & don't do anything in particular to avoid the jog that results from adding another colour. I'm not one for worrying about colour jogs. Thank you for such a lovely tutorial. :-D
Thank you for this video tutorial. Will you be writing out the instructions for your website? I found the font on the video very hard to read. Thanks
Your vlogs are always so lovely and soothing! I have knitted socks in the past, but I have never really found a pattern that fits my foot well which made me give up on socks for a while! This video has inspired me to take up the needles and give socks a go once again! I want this to be my year of the sock :)! Thanks for a wonderful video!
Sock knitting is a journey :) It took me many attempts, and many balls of yarn to finally found THE recipe that fits me :) Hang in there ♥️🧦✨
Thank you for this! I have been bitten by a sock bug since xmas and just purchased some sock yarn at VKL NYC so this is perfect timing because I wasn't sure where to start for a basic tutorial. I knit some socks years ago, but wasn't happy with the fit and so I concluded it was not for me. However, I have seen so many beautiful socks lately that I want to try again. Also just purchased 9 inch needles thinking this may be worth trying since I always get little spaces with dpns. And I wear the same size as you do - so I am super excited to knit along with this tutorial! Thanks so much! Aimee 💕😊💕
You knit like me. I throw the yarn with my right hand. And my knitting has alway come out tighter than others. Its good to know that that is the reason why. As I never knew why.
I can’t thank you enough for this tutorial🌸 socks have intimidated me to no end. It’s been only very recently that I have the mindset of just going for it and to not expect perfection. I’ve been told to knit on chunky yarn for my first pair of socks but maybe I should just go for this instead. Jump right in so to speak. You inspire me and I thank you for sharing🌸
This makes me so happy! Happy sock knitting to you! ♥️🧦✨
How’d it go??
I always wear light cotton socks underneath my woolen ones. This way it never itches, the socks never slide down and this way your feet will stay drier and warmer. This trick I learned from soldiers. The cotton absorbs the sweat from your foot, transports it onto the wool of the woolen sock which takes up the moisture and then the woolen fibre can transport the moisture out. Of course it is even more better to also wear a breathable shoe alltogether. :-) If you do not like to wear leather, which is after all the skin of an animal, there are wonderful breathable man made vegan options out there. Huggs, Christina
P.S. I am german and I am doing my cast on a lot easier than you showed. There is no need to go around both strands at the beginning. Just go through one and then pull the other one through. That is how we learned it in elementaty school back in the 70s and this is how I still do it. :-)
I do the same, can't bare the synthetic in the yarn 😉
Lovely video but the font is not easy to read. It's could be only me but anyway.
Ohhh Melody! Thank you for the lovely tutorial. I have always wanted to be a sock knitter and just cannot seem to manage. I bought a box last year, and so far...there are no socks in it. However, you have inspired me to try again. My issue is more length of the foot... and I was not sure how to use the two colors, so doing this will make it very easy to rip back if I get the length wrong and need to fix it. Such a helpful tutorial!! I also love your method for turning the heel, it gives a lovely heel with a pretty gusset. I want to try again. Soon. So, Thank you again and again, so much! (I had to give up Patreon for economy reasons, so I am very very happy that you are continuing to put out videos here from time to time. Maybe in a year or so when things are more stable, I can come back. So thank you so much!)
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! You have the most beautiful accent and speaking voice🌸
Wait but isnt European knitting left handed? I think that you meant western knitting :) love your socks btw and all the different patterns you did! Im excited to try.
Merci jolie Melody pour tes explications de tricot chaussettes 🧦
Dommage que je ne sois pas très douée en anglais 🤷♀️
Bon tricot plaisir 🧶🥰
Véro 🇫🇷
Really great informative video
Absolutely beautiful video- really enjoyed seeing beautifully shot videos of you in cozy atmosphere! I rarely see environments where knitters knit and this is so beautifully peaceful. Thanks for the video!
Absolutely brilliant tutorial! Thank you so much. I’ve just ordered the book you mentioned.
Such a beautiful knitter and seeing that you made a tutorial made my heart leap for joy. However…trying to read the screen within the chosen font while telling my eyes to “read don’t watch” was challenging. 😕
Would have been a bit more beneficial to have you speak throughout and nix the writing.
Just my opinion. ♥️
This is very interesting and helpful, thank you!!
And: You have very beautiful hands and nails
belleza esas medias, por Dios! Alguna vez lograré hacerlas?, Gracias por este video!🥰
Thank you so much. I'm working on my 5th pair of socks. Each Pair gets a little better, but they still are not very pretty. I always get confused after I've turned the heel, with picking up stitches, where is the start of the new row, and how to "line up" the toes with the heel so they fit correctly. It never occurred to me to leave the markers in! Now I feel like I have a better understanding of how it all works together. So, thank you! Patty
Yes, it takes time to make THE pair that xill fir you perfectly, but once you've nailed it, you won't be able to stop :) To many more pairs of socks ♥️🧦✨
I prefer that the subtitles would be written in capital letters.İt is very difficult To follow and read your subtitles
Love this, Melody! You've inspired me to try with the mini circular again. Thank you.😊💜
I always knit socks this way
A really beautiful presentation, thank you.
Personally I learnt to knit my first socks two at a time and toe up, using magic loop, and I still prefer that method.
A little tip, you will become a faster knitter if you do not let go of the needle in your right hand but just move your forefinger like a lever, to loop the yarn around the left needle. Hope that helps, it takes a little practice 😊
That is called flicking, it's how I knit now. I used to be a thrower but the more I knit the easier flicking became.
Really loved this video! You made knitting socks look so easy that I think I will gather my courage and actually try to make some socks from my untouched sock yarn stash!! Thank you!!
That cast-on is also called a "long tail Norwegian cast on" btw
Excellent tutorial! I'm going to share this with a want-to-be sock knitter 👏🏻
That's so sweet! Thank you so much! ♥️🧦✨
o it's such a delight to the ear/eye to listen to and see your sock recipe. This video is an artistic piece for sure.
Good tutorial! One of the patterns I read gave this advice for the length of yarn to be left for the kitchener stitch - leave 3 times the length of the stitches on the needle to be bound off with KS. The music on your vlog is probably the best of any, right up there with Fruity Knitting’s music choices.
That sounds right! ♥️🧦✨ And thank you so much for your sweet words!
What a good way of doing the last "row" for the "toe".Very good instruction
Ulla Fredriksson I really do love using the Kitchener stitch to close up the toe ♥️🧦✨ it’s very effective and quite addictive to make!
love the sweater your wearing in this episode what is the pattern?
Just to clarify for myself, may I ask how many rows total you should have for the heel flap? I think I might have got the count confused on my first sock (you live, you learn *facepalm*) Thanks Melody!
Don't mind this, I put the second sock down and completely forgot where I left off 😭😭. Thank you for this amazing recipe!

I've never made socks before but I really want to try my hand at it... I have knitted for 50 years and crochet for 53 years.....as I age I want to expand my knowledge
I wear a size ladies 11 shoe. Which needle and how many stitches should i cast on? I prefer a very loose fit just for around the house. I wear shorter socks when I go out. ( Liked n Subscribed)
🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️
Hi, amazing video!!!!! Beautiful socks. I'm curious how long. it take you to knit the pair of socks? Take care and cannot wait for your next videos!!!!!
Thank you for this tutorial Melody! I love it! 😊😘
Excellent tutorial. Very helpful. Thanks so much🌹
Thank you for this beautiful and very helpful video. I a just finishing my first ever successful pair of socks having followed this method and I'm really happy with them. I did get stuck at turning the heel, but only because I misread the number 7 in the instructions (fancy font), I thought it said number 1 and wasted a lot of time repeating the rows over and over until I understood!! But I'll never get that wrong again now. ! I've never made socks before and don't think I would have if it wasn't for such a good clear tutorial. Thanks!
Are there any tips for knitting these socks using double points? They are my preferred method for sock knitting, magic loop makes me very cranky! :-)
Thank you for this video! Is there a written pattern of this somewhere?
Thank you so much!
Hi Melody! Does the new needle for the heel needs to be the same size? I don't have 2 pairs of these 💔
One thing I noticed about 9 inch circulars was that the metal ones were really hard on my hands. I use bamboo tip ones now and I have no issues.. but I'm sad because I think maybe chiao goo doesn't make their interchangeable sock mini set with bamboo tips 😞
Aww! I don’t knit with anything else that bamboo at all as it slows me down! Yeah, I’m not sure that the mini sets are available in bamboo unfortunately, but maybe soon? ☺️🧦✨
Mandarine's I wish they would but I think I'm in the minority in wanting that 😛 the only time I use bamboo is for socks.
@@rianazandra i use both metal and bamboo, love bamboo needles for slippery yarns like alpaca and mohair and they are so much nicer for your hands.
I can’t figure out how to pearl to save my life ☹️!! Had to recast on my sock three times today
Brilliant tutorial, very easy to follow, socks will be on my needles next🥰
Thank you so much for taking the time to show this! I will cast on soon!!!
Would you share where you got your lovely stitch markers?
Hey there and thank you for the nice tutorial. Could you tell me the row gauge at the heel flap, so that I may adjust it in case mine is different?
Thank you so much! I have knit socks before but I always love watching others and how they choose to do their own socks!
Melody, thanks a lot for your tutorial! Everything is clearly explained and at the same time the video is visually beautiful as always! I made my first pair of socks that fit my legs perfectly!
Melody! Thank you so much for this video. It has answered so many questions I had for 9" circular sock knitting. I will definitely be transitioning myself to 2.5mm needles for my next pair to help with my sizing too. I knit tighter like you (thank you anxiety :P) I've linked the video to a couple of my friends who I'm sure will have much use of it. Thanks again! ♥
Thank you so much for the sweet words! Please keep my updated with your socks! And thank you so much for sharing! ♥️🧦✨
Where are your beautiful stitch markers from?
Wow!
Thanks for This!
I use a 9 inch circular ,but have never used the second one for Heels! Great idea,,,Going to try this,,
And NO DPNS at toe,,,Bonus!, NEW TO ME,TOO,,
THANKS SO MUCH

I love making socks!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. 🧦
Your voice is lovely and so is the music in the background. Your instructions are very clear. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for your encouraging words Pat!
спасибо за понятное объяснение как закончить мысок носка👍
great video
What is this pattern? Is it on Ravelry? Thank you so much for this tutorial 🥰🙌🏻🧶
It's just a recipe, so there's no written pattern for it :)
Merci beaucoup d'avoir pris le temps de filmer ta recette chaussette.. La laine est très belle...
Merci beaucoup pour avoir pris le temps de laisser un gentil mot Carine!
I love how you knit! It is just the unusual way I do!
Thank you Manderine.
Was sind das für kurze Nadeln?
Thank you 🙏
Thank you!
That was so helpful!
Yaaay, I've been longing for this tutorial :) definitely going to try your way out. Just one question, how do you manage to knit the toe-stitches on the 9" needle when you have so few sts? I find I have to have quite many sts on the needle in order to knit in the round, 14 sounds so little :) thank you for the tutorial, it was really sweet of you to film it!
sofiaccarlsson you can switch to double pointed needles! Distribute your two sets of 14sts into two needles and knit with the third ♥️🧦😘
Nice socks Im fetish 🤗
