      I'm in my late 50s. I flew out to see it 4x on Broadway and I've seen it twice since on tour. I've always loved the album, but I hated it the first time I saw it because I thought that the music and a "Broadway" rendition just didn't mesh. I obviously changed my mind later, but I just wanted to say that there are other reasons not to like the musical other than not knowing the music

    • @themaggattack
      @themaggattack 4 роки тому

      @@sisterheresy Agreed. Greenday was the shiz back in the 90's when I was in my heyday.
      I like Musicals, I was a theater Geek, myself!
      But Broadway voices singing punk music... just... 🤔🙉
      Also, Hamilton makes my ears bleed. All I can think is WWNWAD? (What would NWA do?) 🤭🤣
      It ain't seem right. But perhaps that's precisely what makes it right? I mean look at Josephine Baker! She was a total revolutionary on the stage, even though Broadway was too racist for her back then. So we've come a long way, baby. There are plenty of revolutionary musicals.... Hair... Jesus Christ Super Star... etc. So why not Greenday?
      There was also an element of humor in all the aforementioned revolutionary stage productions.
      I'm not trying to shit on these Broadway productions. I do appreciate that, paradoxically, they lent a platform to the revolutionary spirit of the younger audience. And tied in history. The musical production aspect is just really funny to me... Which I suppose is good, bc we shouldn't take ourselves too damn seriously. 🤷‍♀️ After all, Billy himself is laughing his sellout old punk ass all the way to the bank. (And I like him a lot, so I mean that in the most endearing of ways.)

    If there's one reason I wish I lived in America it would be because of its theatre scene. I came here after I read John Gallagher jr.'s wiki profile. I got to know of him after watching the Newsroom on tv in which he is amazing. I've been going through clips and clips, and I feel like, even though I was born in not such a bad generation I'm grossly missing out on some great things in life. Like this show. And Spring Awakening. And Hamilton. And I don't really know what else but I am sure there's more. Hopefully, at some point they'll come to Bombay? With Johnny Gallagher, of course.

      bruised bones Green Day is anything but pop rock. Their musical basis is punk, but they do go for more alternative rock, but there's still punk in there. Personally, I feel they're one of the best acts right now. Which, admittedly isn't saying much because of who they're competing against in this modern era, most being complete shit, but they're one of the saving graces of the music industry right now. You call them "not that great," I call them one of the most essential acts for keeping every modern & up & coming musicians from going completely pop, being raised on late 90s-early 2000s garbage.
      Also, for 11 year olds? They're not Simple Plan. Not that they're bad either, it's just the subject matter of their songs.

    I saw the whole show live in Glasgow last year. It was fucking amazing, (I saw it with the British touring cast instead of the original cast). The music is incredible, the vocals are great, and the story line is perfect. It's so relatable to being a teenager too, which is why I love the album in the first place, but the musical brought that to life.

    That would feel somewhat scary/intimidating having the man that sing that song watching over your performance haha. I'm sure Billie would love watching people singing his music and sharing his story and views though!

      I thought so before I watched it but I saw it last week and it was amazing and so moving, this is definitely not the best representation of it at all!

      @helenowen5724 8 років тому +10

      Forgot I wrote this comment haha... I've actually since been to see the UK version of it and it didn't seem anywhere near as cheesy as I expected it to be - I was totally blown away by it, it was amazing and so interesting to see how they told the story of the album. And I agree! This is definitely not the best representation of it!!

      @@SinisterRealist billie joe armstrong is bisexual and the lead in this is straight so i dont think the sexuality of the broadway cast has much to do with the fact that its musically arranged to be a broadway musical in lieu of a punk album but go off i guess

    Hello hi how are you doing up there alright...oh ok im gonna pretend I'm not reading right now ready?... uh before we get started I'd like to say we've never been around so many creative and talented people as we have on Broadway...so far so good (lol :p) uh in 2003 we decided to create a concept record of uh what was America Idiot and it was uh birt- uh born if you'd please uh the album is about people lost both personally and politically and trying to find something to believe in now this is, this is the important part..a guy named Michel Mayor understood the vision perfectly and was able to bring these characters like Jesus of Subirbia & Saint Jimmy & what's her name and brought them all to life and uhh really kept the album's the heart in tact the whole thing so uh.. it's my honor to give you the cast of America Idiot :D

    I think broadway needed a wake-up call something they have never seen before. This was it. I have seen the whole show on UA-cam it is awesome, and moving it deals with different things that people can relate to. With John Gallagher jr and stark sands this cast is awesome. Rock on well done greenday!!!!!

    Hmm I'm a musical theatre fan, and also love some of greenday's songs, but I just feel that, talented as they are, the lead male singers in this just don't get the emotion and feel across. Perhaps they were musical theatre performers without any experience with rock? I don't know, but it just seems to be lacking the emotion and feel. I liked the chorus parts though, and I love the musical version for 21 guns. The women singing that do a good job.
