Mitigate blood sugar spikes by going on a walk after meals, or pairing carbs with fiber (vegetables/roughage) and protein.

While the regular bagels certainly didn't help, the glucose spike from Bobby's breakfast was mostly attributed to the OJ he drank - immediate blood absorption all at once. Everyone should read Dr. Peter Attia's Outlive book if you're interested in learning more from a doctor who really understands biochemistry from foods. Dr. Attia also did a great podcast with Dr. Robert Lustig on this subject.

I have gestational diabetes while pregnant and have learned a lot about blood sugar spikes. Tricky thing about GD is my carb needs are fairly high for baby so I can’t go keto. The only way for me to meet my carb needs while avoiding spikes is eating only whole wheat grains, and pairing them with fat, proteins, and fiber. Insulin resistance is worse in the morning so breakfast and lunch tend to be tougher than dinner. Exercise or any movement after eating helps mitigate blood sugar spikes too. Fruit is usually a no for me but I do tolerate berries very well (high in fiber).

Even finger pricks are different between your right hand and your left hand. In fact, it will change even between fingers. Only really accurate glucose test is a blood draw at a lab. The keto diet could cause low blood pressure, kidney stones, constipation, nutrient deficiencies and an increased risk of heart disease. Strict diets like keto could also cause social isolation or disordered eating. Keto is not safe for those with any conditions involving their pancreas, liver, thyroid or gallbladder.
The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, moderate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that can induce weight loss and improvement in glycemic control, but poses a risk of inducing hyperlipidemia, elevation of liver enzymes and onset of fatty liver disease.

@@theoriginalbridgetconnors I did hear him and I watched the video through its entirety. I was speaking to those that are diabetic and found this video. I know not everything effects diabetics all the same way. Some can have fruit and others cannot. Some can have small amounts of carbs while others cannot. It was just a suggestion for those who can eat fruit.
      Be blessed always!! 🥰

I have been using the dexcom g6 to mange my type 1 diabetes and I use the dexcom app. I love how I can see the graph if there is spike in the sugar. I don't use the level app. I'll look into level.

I don't think people usually add jelly to their bagels. I wonder what his blood sugar would have been with just the bagel and cream cheese (as well as the eggs) or even with a bagel and egg sandwich, no cream cheese. Also I wonder at what time after eating is blood sugar the highest usually?

Diagnosed diabetic after a serious accident left me unable to exercise in 1995. I believe exercise is key and kept my blood sugar in check for decades before. I can count on one hand the glasses of juice i have had since 1995.

I am diabetic. And what really sucks is I also have celiac disease, so all these lovely keto choices like bread , I still can’t have because they have wheat/gluten .. trying to figure out what to eat that doesn’t spike my sugar is a nightmare. The gluten free foods that are out there seem to really raise blood sugar

The resistant starch thing works for me with jasmine rice. But refrigerated for 48 hours then reheated. Huge difference in the spike.

There is actually a scientific paper on that. I believe you can add 3% weight coconut oil and it help even more.
