While Jimmy might be considered by some to be of the county music genre, he is a whole genre of his own. Almost all of his music has a beachy/tropical/island feel to it. He has an almost cult following (in a good way) that are called parrot heads. And I proudly wear that label myself. His music is a rabbit hole well worth going down. So many iconic songs he has done.
Jimmy is one of those rare artists who can make you smile and feel happy or make you wanna let your hair down and party or move you to tears with his stories. His broad appeal and merchandising genius took him from living on the beach to, thanks to the savvy marketing of his Margaritaville brand along with earnings from his music sales and touring revenue, the point where Forbes listed his net worth earlier this year at $1 billion! Yet he never lost his warmth and humility and sense of humor. One of my favorite songs is Son Of A Son Of A Sailor. Some of his more moving songs are A Pirate Looks At Forty and Death Of An Unpopular Poet and The Captain And The Kid and He Went To Paris. You can’t really go wrong with any of his songs!!
Your ears are feasting on one of the most famous, widely known songs in the world. I have heard Margaritaville playing in so many places, from Ireland to Mexico, from our American west coast to east coast, in every beach bar in this hemisphere, and on any given remote island in the Caribbean. It is the standard for beach life.
Guys, you need to take a trip to KeyWest, Florida to get a real feel for the lifestyle that he sang about and championed. Jimmy was one of the most beloved musicians in America for many generations. The people that frequented his concerts called themselves, "Parrot heads". You should really take that trip.
I’ve been a Texas Parrothead since 1977. Margaritaville is the national anthem. My favorite songs are “the weather is here, wish you were beautiful” “ who’s the blonde stranger” “boat drinks” “ I’m growing older but not up” “if the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me”
Serious old school list there. Well done!! Oddly, I don't see "The Weather is Here .." mentioned a lot, but it is fantabulous, and also one of my favorites.
The old glass bottles of pop had the ridged metal top that would cut you if you stepped in an upturned one. Margaritaville was mainstream and huge in the 70’s and since, considered pop. Calypso! It’s really country with a island twist. Jimmy wrote so many light hearted, feel good songs that would just put a smile on your face and his fans around the world are affectionately known as ‘Parrotheads.’ Check out Fins, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Son of a Son of a Sailor. My favorite is Come Monday. Thanks guys! Great reaction! 🌴🐠🦜 And Jimmy, sail away with no more storms on your horizon. R.I.P. 💔
The cans had the pull tab like now, except they came off completely. They were sharp, too. In fact, I think that's why they changed them to how they are now ... non-removable.
"blew out my flip flop" could mean broke his beach shoe but it also was a slang term for missing your return flight home. Just like "stepped on a pop top" was a slang term for getting incapacitatedly drunk.
A pop top is from the old tin cans soda pop used to come in. They peeled off the can and if you stepped on one it would slice your foot open. They’re the reason current soda cans have attached openers.
I HAVE HEARD THIS SONG FOR MANY YEARS❤ I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THIS SONG❤ R.I.P. JIMMY BUFFETT❤ THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GREAT MUSIC. G.B.N.F.. SUMMER ISN'T NOTHING WITHOUT THIS SONG. FROM A FAN P ..HEAD
This song is easy to sing along with. Heartbroken; a couple drinks in; karaoke night or none of these. Please react to "5'Oclock Somewhere" by Alan Jackson ft Jimmy Buffet
To me, the only people who say he is country are those that have never really listened to him at all. He started a whole new genre titled tropical rock. He started a vibe and atmosphere that was just/is simply contagious and spoke to so many of us.
Love you guys. Never realized how young you really are until you seemed confused about the term pop top. Anyone over 40 who's ever been to the beach has a pop top scar or two to show for it. I really think you'd enjoy the Alan Jackson-Jimmy Buffet song "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere." It's a happy, upbeat tune and the official video is tremendous.
Years ago pop cans had a pulltab that came completely off not like nowadays or if you pull it up and the tab goes in towards the can and stays attached and that’s what a pop top is
You guys are cute! Ask an old guy what a pop top is. Old beer, soda, and other beverages had a pull ring that came off of the can. They didn't tuck back into the can, so people left them everywhere. Some people used to dropped them into the can.....choking hazard! Now they tuck.
Sorry., but the old days, the lid to a beer can had a tab that pulled off and the whole opening came with it. That was known as the pop-top. It was teardrop shaped. The musical instrument you hear is the Caribbean Steel Drums. He blew out his flip flop, stepped on a pop top and cut his heal and he had to move on back home.
You paused the video and didn't rewind ~ I blew out my flip flop Stepped on a pop top Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home Pop Top: That metal thingamajig (tab/ring) on a can of soda (pop), beer, etc. that you pull to open the can.
Go to 560 7th Ave in Times Square if you want to see a little bit of what that little song turned into. Margaritaville Times Square Big FlipFlop and Pop Top in the lobby. Salt Salt Salt
I got to see him 07/05/1981 in the old Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego with another group of folks. Great show all around. Festival seating.😎 $50 when we got our mony's worth. He's an alcoholic. He must have been a wreck because I know how my tattoos got there. Salt me😁 RIP Jimmy😇
Such a wealth of songs, most extremely poignant, try any of the songs he wrote for/about his 3 children, Little Miss Magic, Delaney Talks To Statues, and Beach House On The Moon
@@aaronhonigsfeld2735 That's about right, lol. However, there is still good music being made, this coming from someone old! But sure, lots of crap out there, lol.
@@emmef7970well the margarita was created in Juarez Mexico, literally in the middle of the desert. Has ZERO to do with anything Beach related! Finally he dies! I couldn’t stand that dumb song! Good riddance
I have a few song suggestions that fall right in line with your recent vids that you might like. Owen Temple - Wanna Wanna Bar, Dry Creek (sadly covid killed the actual bar in this song), The Great Divide - Pour me a Vacation (this is almost a Jimmy Buffet tribute in itself), Dos Borrachos - "Dos Borrachos" (Kevin Fowler and Roger Creager).
Too young to appreciate the song? You should react to Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett - It's Five O' Clock Somewhere (Official HD Video). A whole lot of young people have a very different opinion. No offense to Zac Brown Band (love them) but they would be lucky to have the following that Jimmy Buffet has had since the 1970's. Loyal fans of all ages, young and old. I wonder where Zac Brown Band will be in 50 years, lol.
The best of America!! Love, love love. Your reaction was very sad for me. He was a billionaire. I think he was a National Treasure. Are you guys from the USA?

You stole my words exactly. I'd like this played at my memorial service.
he is a whole genre of his own......ABSOLUTELY
Tropical rock
always loved how the chorus starts with “it’s nobody’s fault” and slowly devolves to “it’s my own damn fault”
goes from denial to acceptance
The middle is could be my fault.
So many people don't catch the changes along the way

yeah “5 o’clock Somewhere” is a great song👍🏼
"5 o'clock somewhere" Alan Jackson with a cameo from Jimmy Buffet is really good and light hearted video as well.
To me, the only people who say he is country are those that have never really listened to him at all. He started a whole new genre titled tropical rock. He started a vibe and atmosphere that was just/is simply contagious and spoke to so many of us.
Exactly!! He was his own genre
Pop top is what used to be the piece of aluminum that you peeled of a beer or soda can to open it it didn't stay attached and it was sharp.
IT'S A 70S SONG. IT'S AWSOME!! ❤

I think most everyone will go to some sort of Margaritaville. It most often starts when ya see the sun coming up and your not done drinking.
If you ever get to myrtle beach you have to eat at margaritaville. I’m hoping his restaurants stay open.
