Thank-u for the clarafication - I was born with perfect hearing that was above normal. so was my daughter. As for me, I lost my hearing at the tender age of 16 monthsm due to a fall out of a car window. I fell head first, Striking my forehead on a brick. Over the years, I have lost more of my hearing, each time, due to a blow to the head which also caused injury to the neck. the end results is a near total loss of any hearing. I am unable to under stand any speech. But if the sound level is high enough, such as a board felling on a sheet of plywood, or a very load dog barking, i can hear that ... other wise, I don't hear nothing. I did use a hearing aid for many years. Right now, i have not had a hearing aid for the past 10 years. Medicare or medicad dont pay for hearing aids. and the last time i had my hearing checked out, I didnt have much left. So, I have been on the Social Security Disability most of my life. I would like to work but i find it to be a pain in the butt, in fact, that when i do get a job, i get laid off in a few months, and told that that i am not needed. This just messes up the social Security process. So, I stay home. at this time, i am 63 years old.
Deafness due to any cause is considered a disability, but that means real deafness - you can't hear or understand people speaking. Hard of hearing PLUS other problems may qualify, but hard of hearing alone is unlikely to qualify.
What if my child lost one of hearing only on the right completely ? Is that considered. He is now 6 and got so behind at school his been on speech therapy 3 years
You need to have health insurance and some extra money to pay for disability in America unfortunately. I have neither and it's hard to get any benefits to get disability in America. I've been working on loud factories for 7 years
